I grew up obsessed with the history of the pioneers and westward expansion. I can remember long hours spent playing The Oregon Trail in all its EGA glory. So I was very excited to get to review Pioneer Lands, a new time management/simulation game from NevoSoft. While Pioneer Lands does have its moments of fun, it feels very familiar and doesn’t offer anything new. Still, the game is addictive, but it just doesn’t have the feel you would expect from a pioneer themed game.

Welcome to Dreamland, the last amusement park you’d want to become stuck in. Luckily, what would make for the worst vacation is actually a pretty enjoyable game.

Mobile gaming just keeps getting better and better. In the last few months, I’ve played more unique, original gameplay concepts on my iPhone than I have in the last several years on the big-boy consoles. Case in point: Zzed. It’s a great mix of Asteroids, Bust-a-Move, and pool that somehow all seems to work.

LandGrabbers is a sort of a Risk-like area control game that’s inspired by real time strategy and even a little bit of tower defense, though you neither build towers or control units directly. You’ll be in charge of an army tasked with taking over all the control points of each map, marked with buildings. Your job is to swarm and take over each of these unoccupied or enemy buildings using your units.

A girl finds a book which opens a portal to another world... What sounds like the usual premise of a hidden object game is actually the foundation for the new building simulation Abigail and the Kingdom of Fairs. While the game is slightly reminiscent of Wonderburg or Carnival Mania, it is unfortunately a case of “Would have been awesome two years ago.” That said, it's still worth a look for fans of the genre.

Nothing is more annoying than spending a holiday in which nothing turns out to be as you expected. In Paradise Beach 2 (the follow-up to Paradise Beach) your goal is to create the perfect beach resort for others by proving your knack for micro-management and eye for beauty. A lot of improvements over its predecessor make this game an entertaining experience, in spite of the fact that a few minor flaws still haven't been resolved.

In most hidden object games, you're penalized for too much random clicking, but in Vampireville, failure to click like crazy will leave you dead in your tracks. It's just one of the ways that Vampireville tinkers with the typical hidden object game formula, but sadly the game's fresh attitude isn't enough to counter its lack of polish.
