Criminal Minds Review

Apr 25, 2012, 6:59am

3.5

Criminal Minds stays true to the television series’ narrative format and beloved characters, creating the rare casual game of investigative substance. But while it’s intriguing to profile the unknown subject (UNSUB) as an expert of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), if you’re not a huge fan of the show, it may be difficult to endure this licensed game’s low-budget aesthetics.

Legends of Atlantis: Exodus Review

Apr 12, 2012, 2:11pm

Over the years, quite a few casual games have been released that focus on the mythology of the lost city of Atlantis. Whether the games detail its destruction or later discovery by scientists, there tends to be a focus on how or why the city was ultimately lost. In Legends of Atlantis: Exodus, we don’t have to make guesses or assumptions, as we’re transported directly back to the beginning of the island’s isolated Armageddon, as earthquakes, tidal waves and more threaten to wipe out the culture’s inhabitants, history and even the very land upon which both have been built.

House M.D. Review

Sep 13, 2010, 8:27am

3.5

Not satisfied with just having a successful television series, Dr. Gregory House has decided to enter the world of video games. House M.D. attempts to recreate the combination of drama and humor that has made its TV counterpart such a success, only in the form of an adventure game. The title manages to capture some of that charm, but thanks in large part to some frustrating mini-games, it ends up being a bit of a tough pill to swallow that will likely only appeal to fans.

Jack Keane Review

Mar 16, 2010, 8:55am

3

The Monkey Island series is one of the most loved and charming point and click adventure series of all time, combining quirky humor and traditional gameplay into an engaging overall package. Which is bad news for Jack Keane. Because while the game bares a lot in common with the Monkey Island games, both in terms of its look and style as well as the way it plays, it also fails to muster any of what made them so popular: charm. Instead we're left with a fairly bland and boring adventure that lasts a little too long and is decidedly light on laughs.

Sinking Island Review

Apr 11, 2009, 10:05am

3.5

If you think it would be fun to be a billionaire, perhaps you ought to hear about poor old Walter Jones. In his case, it was murder.

In the Agatha Christie-esque adventure game Sinking Island, you play as Jack Norm, a police detective called to a remote tropical island to investigate the not-so-accidental death of Walter Jones, a wheelchair-bound billionaire found dead at the bottom of a cliff. Who did it and what was their motive? This is what you must find out by interrogating the ten suspects, snapping photos and collecting evidence.

While not one of the better adventure games available, this attractive point-and-click detective story might appeal to fans of murder mysteries.
