I honestly did not expect to have this much fun with Magical Diary. I really didn't. A trite formula spun onto its head, Magical Diary will have players stepping into the shoes of a young girl who has only recently realized her own aptitude for magic. For those of you wondering if this eventually comes to involve suspiciously familiar schools, cat boys, vampires, demons and a variety of high school hijinks, I can tell you this: It does.

It's all par for the course in Magical Diary, the upcoming RPG/romance sim from Hanako Games (Cute Knight, Fatal Hearts) where you play a student trying to make it through wizarding school.

Imagine a game in which Aveyond meets a lighter version of The Sims. That sounds quite compelling, doesn't it? It's exactly what you get with Cute Knight Kingdom, developed by Hanako Games. While the title has some flaws and is rather rough around the edges, it still manages to charm and entertain anyone who likes a shot of good old role-playing gameplay with a ton of character customization.

Fans of casual role-playing games might remember a little indie gem from Hanako Games called Cute Knight. In the game, you had three years to guide a young orphan girl from the ages of 18 to 21 to decide what path her life would ultimately take. Would she become a hero and marry a handsome prince, or spend her days as a dumpy assistant cook getting bossed around in the kitchen? These were just two out of dozens of possible outcomes.

Hanako Games is working on a sequel called Cute Knight Kingdom that stays true to the original format while greatly expanding what you get to see and do.
