In case you haven’t noticed, we’re suckers for lists around here. We chronicle each week’s major iOS releases, tell you which games we can’t wait to play, and even pick the best games released every month. And while April may not have been the most prolific month of game releases, there was still plenty to get excited about – like a new Cut the Rope!

Maybe it’s just me, but that seasonal transition – the winter-to-spring of it – makes March seem like the longest month ever.  Also, the whole “31 days” thing doesn’t help.  But doesn’t it feel even longer than that?  Thankfully, this past March gave us plenty of good games to help us while away our end-of-winter doldrums!

There’s typically a dearth of video game releases after the holiday season comes to an end. As depressing as that may sound, it actually makes for a good opportunity to catch up on all the games that fell through the cracks in the months before. We didn’t have such a luxury this time around, though, as the Video Game Gods decided to provide us with a mountain of awesome video games.

Welcome to the first Games of the Month for 2013!  We still have 11 months to go before our next annual best of round-up, but if January is any indication, it looks like we’re all set for another amazing year.

The holidays are always the best time of year for video games. There are tons of releases, and excess downtime to spend playing them. Personally, I managed to make my way through a pretty decent chunk of my backlog, and even check out some games I wouldn’t have had time for otherwise. I hope you had a similar fortune, as quite a few great games launched this month.

November was yet another hallmark month for releases and, as is typical of this time of year, we didn’t have the easiest time deciding on which ones would make the cut. It’s kind of like when you’re trying to eat as much as you can on Thanksgiving, but only have a finite amount of space on your plate to work with. We’re still within the window where Thanksgiving references are acceptable, right?

Chances are you’re sitting around and binging on candy as you read this. Good on you! It’s Halloween after all, and everyone knows that sugary treats are the only thing that keeps the ghosts at bay. Well, sugary treats and awesome video games. We can’t help much with the former, but we most certainly have plenty of the latter to share with you. Read on, and rid your living quarters of those pesky ghosts!

Fun fact: September is the first month of the year to end with “-ember”. As such, I usually spend most of it lighting stuff on fire. Because embers. This September, though, I decided to spend it burning my way through some awesome games. Given how many excellent ones were released, I definitely made the right choice.

I’m working on a bit of a conspiracy theory. August is the eighth month in the year, and we’re going to share the six games we liked the most from that month. If you add six and eight you get fourteen which, divided by two, equals seven. July is the seventh month of the year, and we shared six games with you that month as well. That alone is suspect, but the plot runs deeper.

July 2012 was the hottest month on record for a lot of places.  When we should have all been enjoying great summer days at the beach or in the cottage, many of us found ourselves hiding from the sun in our homes, sitting next to a fully cranked air conditioner unit.

Thank goodness we had games to play to help us pass the time.  :)
