Torchlight Review

The dungeon crawler. It's a time-honored tradition amongst gamers. Whether we're talking Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest or the more casual-friendly FATE, nearly everyone has played a game about killing orcs and selling pants. Well - almost everyone. The genre has always seemed more intimidating than need be, and Torchlight is looking to change that. We don't want to go out on a limb here, but this might just be the first dungeon-crawler that's fun, simple, and accessible to everyone.

Trine Review

A wizard, a thief and a knight walk into a treasure room - stop me if you've heard this one before. In the treasure room is an all-powerful crystal called the Trine, which merges three different souls into one body. It may be uncomfortable for them, but it's fortunate for you. Now you can rotate between these three characters at the press of a button on an adventure that traverses a world of fantasy overrun by the undead.

Zombie Bowl-O-Rama Review

Grabbing a heavy ball and sending it thundering down the lane towards ten unsuspecting white pins can be a great way to unwind, and the resounding victorious crack of the ball against its target is simply cathartic. But those who feel they need a little something extra to sweeten the experience, Zombie Bowl-O-Rama offers even more excitement by replacing the customary pins with flesh-eating undead monsters. Instead of just bowling, you get to be a zombie hunter...armed with a bowling ball.

Osmos Review

Regardless of dietary preferences, regional menu choices or personal tastes, there's one universal constant when it comes to the food cycle: big things eat little things. It should come as no surprise then that this rule isn't restricted to consumption here on Earth. Osmos is a game that takes the food chain and applies it on a cosmic scale. Equal parts hypnotic and majestic, Osmos takes zen gaming to a whole new level.

Reel Quest Review

Summer has finally gotten into full swing, and for a lot of folks there's only one thing on their mind: fishing. But not everyone is a member of the rod and reel set. For those of us more comfortable with a PDA that a worm on a hook, Big Fish Games is offering up a title to bring out the inner angler in all of us, Reel Quest.

BurgerTime Deluxe Review

Who could forget Burger Time, the tasty '80s arcade game that challenged players to build hamburgers and avoid running into the nasty toppings. Even fitness guru Jillian Michaels, star of The Biggest Loser, says she spent many a quarter on this frantic arcade puzzler back in the day.

Well, it's back. Namco Networks has resurrected this classic but while adding new game-play elements, better graphics, bigger levels (both vertically and horizontally) and minigames, too. It's not perfect, but a delicious update nonetheless.

Aztaka Review

The word "reverence" isn't something often used when describing games. But Aztaka, a new, independently-developed game from Citeremis, shows that when a developer has reverence for both the history behind their game as well as while crafting it, great things will likely result. And result they have.

Set in Mexico in1328, Aztaka follows the story of an Aztec named Huitzilo, a young man with a big destiny. His task is to find the seven keys to the Path of Gods and bring balance back to his people and his land. Aiding him in his task is Ayohpa, a hummingbird with a mysterious past, and Huitzilo's source of magic. The two warriors must stop the evil Snake Woman, Chihuac, who murdered your mother.

Pro Pinball Fantastic Journey Review

It's amazing what a little look back at gaming history can do for perspective. I have been hankering for a realistic pinball game with decent physics, table design and control for a while now. Imagine my surprise when I played Pro Pinball Fantastic Journey. This game managed to fulfill my needs for a good pinball game. But here's the kicker: They accomplished it ten years ago. Thanks to download site Good Old Games, this historical oversight can be rectified.

Released back in 1999, Pro Pinball Fantastic Journey is the fourth title in the series. Each part of the name plays a key role in the gameplay experience.

Crayon Physics Deluxe Review

Remember how your teachers always told you that doodling with your crayons all day long was a waste of time? In Crayon Physics Deluxe, not only will you be rewarded, it’s the only way to play.

The goal of Crayon Physics Deluxe is simple: propel the red ball into the star. But unlike most puzzle games, there truly are an infinite number of solutions for beating each of the game’s 70+ levels. As the game’s first screen states, “It's not just about finding the right solution. It's about finding the awesomest one.” The reason for this is that you can literally draw anything you like, and it comes alive in the game’s world.

Life has never been easy for the Uchujin. First they spend their lives underground, and now they find themselves trapped in outer space! It's up to you and your team of space-faring rescue heroes to bring these poor little critters home. Based on an obscure arcade title from 2002, Star Trigon brings all the fun and challenge of this intergalactic rescue operation to your home computer.

Magic Ball 4 Review

Fans of "brick breaking" arcade games popularized in the '80s - such as Arkanoid and Breakout - might get a nostalgic kick out of Alawar's new downloadable digital diversion. Magic Ball 4 is the latest in the publisher's two million unit-selling series - and while it's not too different than its predecessors, it proves to be a fun take on the classic formula.

First, the story. Oh yes, there is, um, a story with this ball-breaking game. As luck would have it, aliens have entered our dimension and kidnapped thousands of humans. Your job is to return them all to our world by touching them with the Magic Ball of Relativity. If your aim is good, you can advance through the various levels and bring everyone (and everything) back home.

Raycatcher Review

Music games are slowly starting to infiltrate the casual game space. Some, like Music Catch, find an audience and grow into cult hits. But others, like Raycatcher, don’t seem destined to make the same kind of impact.

And Yet It Moves Review

The goal of most platform games is to go from left to right until you reach a goal. In And Yet It Moves, you’re tasked with pretty much the same thing. The only difference is, getting to the right is anything but straightforward.

And Yet It Moves is really three games in one. At its heart, the game is a traditional platformer, with simple controls – the A and D keys move you left and right, W key jumps – with checkpoints to navigate you to the next area.

Braid Review

Created by developer Jonathan Blow over a period of several years, Braid was a darling of the independent games circuit, and made a huge splash when it appeared in the Xbox Live Arcade download service last year. After several months, the game is now available for PC users, and if you haven’t played it yet, it’s worth the wait.

Sky Kingdoms Review

Not all games are for all players. Developers often create their wares with specific audiences in mind, and it seems clear that Alawar Entertainment's new fantasy-themed marble popper, Sky Kingdoms, is geared not for people new to the genre or even casual fans of such games, but rather hardcore ball blasters who play these games for hours on end until they become so proficient that they can fly through even the fastest-paced, most twisty levels while half asleep. It is, in other words, a challenging game, though not because of any great innovation on the genre’s classic formula.

Way to Go! Bowling Review

Bowling has rarely, if ever, been cool. Casual fans have enjoyed the otherworldly Elf Bowling, and Wii Sports Bowling has introduced an electronic version of the game to Nintendo Wii fans. Pogo has decided to give it their own spin with Way To Go! Bowling, and while it is a very cool-looking game, a number of factors make this game a “turkey” – and not in a good way.

Mevo & the Grooveriders Review

If Super Mario married a guitar god from Rock Band, their offspring might resemble something like Mevo & the Grooveriders, a quirky music game for the PC. This side-scrolling rhythm puzzler is both entertaining and challenging and what it lacks in the originality department it makes up for in sheer fun.

Music is good and silence is bad - this is what you need to know going into Mevo & the Grooveriders, as our hapless alien critter must reunite his band, the Grooveriders, and bring funk back to save the universe. Players must control Mevo through five psychedelic worlds, by running, jumping, swimming and flying from the left side of the screen to the right.

Tibor - Tale of a Kind Vampire Review

Vampires are a dime a dozen these days. From the Buffy the Vampire series to the recent tween phenomenon Twilight, it seems that everyone is trying to cash in on these bloodsuckers. Cateia Games tries to turn the traditional views of the creatures of the night on their collective pointy ears in Tibor – Tale of a Kind Vampire. Unfortunately, like the creatures themselves, the game turns to dust in the morning sun.

The Wonderful End of the World Review

You may not have heard of Dejobaan Games, but you probably should have. After all, according to them, they’ve been “making quality video games for 75 years.” If you can see the inherent problem with that statement, then the kind of tongue-in-cheek humor in The Wonderful End of the World is for you.

Plant This! Review

Tower defense games - simple tactical battles played out in real-time where you attempt to build a range of strategic roadblocks and turrets to guard against onrushing hordes - are hugely popular on home PCs. Plant This!, which despite its general lack of polish, comes correct where it counts most: Furiously addictive play. Capable of taxing both one's wits and reflexes, it's a great way to kill 15 minutes here and there without having to shift your brain completely into neutral.

Conga Bugs Review

GameTantra's colorful little Conga Bugs stands out in the crowded marble blasting genre, but not for any one reason. Rather, its mixture of better-than-average graphics, minor but compelling innovations, and fun extras combine to create a game that, while not particularly original, is nonetheless highly engaging casual entertainment.

Looking to spice up your menu plan? Cooking Academy 2 is basically a huge collection of cooking-themed minigames that might actually give you some inspiration in the kitchen. It's not an original concept, but it's still fun to play.

Strike Ball 3 Review

The brick-busting genre is one of gaming's oldest chestnuts, and this time Strike Ball 3 is up. The third game in the series from Russian developer Owl Games, Strike Ball 3 builds upon its predecessors very well.

The original Strike Ball was a rudimentary 3D ball-breaker, but provided decent fun. The sequel, Strike Ball 2 was an enormous step up from the original that featured a slew of power-ups and great level design.

It must be said that compared to the step up from the original to the sequel, Strike Ball 3 is less revolutionary compared to Strike Ball 2. However, the changes are very important, and fundamentally alter the gameplay.
