Sticky mouse issues on Everest puzzles

I've had this game a long time and played on both my HP Pavillion desktop and now again on new laptop with vista. Also used several different mice. On the jigsaws when I pick up a piece to move to a location it won'd detach from the pointer and I waste a LOT of time (and lose) clicking it over and over to let go. I never could complete the map puzzles trying to either move big pieces out of the way to see or them not releasing from the pointer.

On several, the pieces won't move over to the border, one is the skeleton where you know where the top head goes visually but the skull stops short of the place it must have to go, about an inch short of the destinatio. Very frustrating but if I just go on to Next instead of timing out in the just 5 minute limit, the game does progress to the next scenes.

The final puzzle I've either gotten by sheer chance or not at all and made no sense. There are already 2 tiles in the first and last boxes which can't be moved out or changed and I am at a total loss how they have any similarities. I think there is a glitch, when I push the white button they either kick in and game over or not. I'd sure like to know what the third symbol is to match the 2 already in the first three.
