Greenlight Spotlight: King Voxel

King Voxel has a problem. The queen has been kidnapped, you see, and the land of Voxelot has been taken over by villainous forces. While most kings would sit on their throne and order their knights to deal with the issue, King Voxel has decided to venture forth and take care of it himself. What a brave guy, right? No wonder they named a game after him.

King Voxel is an action-adventure game inspired by classics like Adventure for the Atari 2600 and The Legend of Zelda for the NES. Those inspirations creep up in nearly every facet of the game, from its pixelated graphics (or voxelated, if you prefer) to its exploration and combat-focused gameplay. Which isn’t to say the game is without a few tricks of its own: its quest system and world are both randomly generated, meaning players have access to an infinite bounty of unique quests at their hands.

As awesome a prospect as that is for the people playing the game, it sounds like it could be horribly tiring for King Voxel. He may be royalty, but no one man can complete infinite quests. Then again, there’s no amount of people who could complete that many quests – except maybe infinity people. My brain just exploded.

Let’s forget about large numbers for a bit (or forever – fine by me) and talk about King Voxel‘s visuals. Although its world is nothing short of eye candy, the game’s character designs are where it truly shines. For proof, just take a look at this list of monsters on the game’s site. My personal favorite is Commander Slop (he’s made of acidic ice cream!), but they’re all pretty awesome to look at. Same with the good guys.

The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but the Steam Greenlight page states that it’s set to launch in the second quarter of 2013. Speaking of which:
