As EA and Playfish gear up for the much-anticipated release of The Sims Social on Facebook, rumors are swirling that Zynga is already working on a competitive game, which may be called FamilyVille.

As Fusible reports, this past March the URL familyville.com was purchased by the same company that has purchased other domain names for Zynga in the past, including rewardville.com. Of course, since Zynga hasn't officially announced anything, the idea that FamilyVille, if it is indeed a game at all, is a Sims-style experience, is 100 percent rumor.

That being said, it does seem rather likely. The Sims is one of the few brands that could potentially challenge Zynga's stranglehold on Facebook, so it only makes sense that the developer would be looking to counter The Sims Social with its own game.

Stay tuned to Gamezebo for further updates.

Actually Zynga has already been taking on The Sims with CityVille ... it's more or less SimCity on facebook, isn't it? EA had to react to that, too... if you look into how people spend money on online games like those by Zynga and how they spend money on console/PC games it's clear that those on facebook are making way more... If every player spends only 10 Euros in paysafecard every second month (which really isn't much, I know people who spend that almost every week) they already paid for for this "free2play" facebook game than they would have for the console/PC game - and they'll continue putting money in it, unlike for the other games that you only buy once and that's it. Unless there's DL contenct like it's becoming the new trend. The sad thing about all that is that gaming seems to be more and more about ripping off and cashing in from people than providing really fun game experiences...
