Life is Magic Review: Pitting neighbor against neighbor, and skeleton warrior against neighbor, too!

Feb 18, 2013

There's magic in your neighborhood. Plus orcs and elves and demons and wizards. You probably didn't notice it with just your eyes, which is where Life is Magic enters the scene. The free-to-play, location-based dungeon crawler turns the earth into a fantasy battleground, allowing you to cooperate with and compete against your real world neighbors for resources. It'd be a shame if their power suddenly went out, wouldn't it?

Dec 7, 2012

Getting stranded on an island would be the pits. You’d have to struggle with finding food and shelter, not to mention fending off whatever dangerous vermin resided there. But what if you found yourself on an island filled with upbeat characters and all sorts of fun activities to partake in? Well, it wouldn’t be all that different from Stolen Couch Games’ Castaway Paradise.

Ingress Preview: The world is now one big video game. Kind of.

Nov 16, 2012

Augmented reality is a strange thing. There’s no denying it has potential, but few games have used it to any great success. With the upcoming Ingress for Android, Google is hoping to change that. We can only hope they’ll incorporate their famous driverless car somehow.

Kung Fu FIGHT! Review: A "sweep the leg" journey.

Nov 15, 2012

I'm a sucker for a good old fashioned kung fu story. Who in their right mind hasn't had a sudden urge to don a Gi, strap a headband on, and set out on an impossible heroes' quest to save a fetching beauty from a sinister despot? Kung Fu FIGHT! by Nostatic Software hits all of these marks with the power of a roundhouse kick to the head, and does so in the form of a fun to play, nostalgia-infused, rock solid runner.

Mobbles Preview: Mobbles asks you to catch'em all, then love'em all like family

May 22, 2012

You know what's a fun word to say? Mobbles. Coincidentally, it's also the name of a game! Arriving on Android and iOS on May 30, Mobbles (still fun to say) is best described as Tamagotchi with attitude. Whereas the original virtual pets did little more than hop around and drop poo everywhere, the creatures in Mobbles (which are also called Mobbles (Mobbles!)) adopt more exciting habits. Like skateboarding!

Mafia Planet Preview: Territory control goes global in Mafia Planet

May 9, 2012

So what happens when a Mafia family grows and its territory gets a little crowded? It expands that territory, of course. First, a neighborhood. Then a city. Then the entire planet. Granted, it would take a lot of effort (to say nothing of a lot of bullets) for a single Mafia to lock the whole of Earth in a grid of organized crime, but Mafia Planet for iOS will at least let you give it a try.

Parallel Mafia Preview: Control the streets... literally

Mar 28, 2012

Hidden away on the second floor of an office building in Madison, Wisconsin is one of the most creative and active tech companies one could imagine -- and you'd never know it just driving by. PerBlue, the creators of the first-of-its-kind location-based RPG Parallel Kingdom, sit perched in for what most people would be a spacious layout. Then again, most people don't have 35 employees crammed into the equivalent of a two bedroom apartment. But limited square-footage hasn't cramped PerBlue's growth, as evident with their upcoming release, Parallel Mafia.
