Hippity hoppity, Easter’s on it’s way!

The Easter holiday weekend is right around the corner, and you know what that means: another holiday, another Angry Birds Seasons update.

This time around the piggies are celebrating springtime with floppy bunny ears, freshly grown grass, and plenty of Easter eggs – all ripe for the smashing. Rovio is also promising “Golden Eggs a-plenty,” which is certainly in keeping with the Easter theme of the update. Players who download the update can expect 15 new levels of springtime fun.

On a side note, the new checkerboard style hills and tufts of grass really remind me of Sonic the Hedgehog‘s Green Hill Zone. It may seem like a silly observation, but the retro gamer inside of me is tickled pink.

With only a 99 cent price tag and episodes for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and now Easter, Angry Birds Seasons is turning out to be one of the better deals on the App Store for gamers who love to be kept knee-deep in fresh content. The Easter update is live now on the App Store, and like all previous Angry Birds updates, is absolutely free of charge.

I’m betting the Fourth of July is the next holiday Angry Birds Seasons tackles, but that seems like an awfully long time to go without an update. What celebration do you think they can squeeze in between now and then to keep their fans satiated with another dozen or so levels?

Love comes to Angry Birds Seasons with Valentine’s Day update

After having a spooktacular time at Halloween, and getting in the holiday spirit last December, Angry Birds Seasons is back with its third update – and it’s one that celebrates the season of love.

Hogs and Kisses, the latest chapter in the Angry Birds Seasons saga, offers 15 new levels set against the backdrop of pastel pink trees, floating hearts, and an angelic soundtrack. As with previous seasonal updates, the pigs you’ll be attacking will also appear in appropriate attire. Expect to knock cupid pigs out of the sky, and bash the bows off of cute little girl pigs as you wreck their piggy plans for a romantic night out.

In addition to new content, the latest update to Angry Birds Seasons also provides links to a variety of Angry Birds related content on the web. Some of this is purely for marketing, such as links to the original Angry Birds or to buy Angry Birds plush toys. Other links can help extend the players experience beyond the game, such as a link to join the newsletter, or the option to send Angry Birds Valentine’s e-cards through Facebook.

Angry Birds Seasons third update, Hogs and Kisses, is now live on the App Store and is a free download for current Angry Birds Seasons owners.

Angry Birds Christmas Preview

With Christmas right around the corner, and Angry Birds Christmas looking like the worst kept secret under the App Store tree, some confusion seems to have arisen about just how this festive twist on an iPhone favourite would be released. Would it be a standalone download like Angry Birds Halloween? An expansion to the original? Now, only hours from the game’s release, the confusion has subsided. Angry Birds Christmas will be an update to Angry Birds Halloween, and the title will be renamed Angry Birds Seasons.

Unlike Angry Birds Halloween – which is now a separate episode in Seasons called “Trick or Treat” – all of the Christmas content will not be unlocked on the first day of release. Instead, “Season’s Greetings” (their name for the Christmas episode) will unlock one new level each day for the next 25 days, mimicking the design of an advent calendar.

Once all is said and done, there will be 25 new levels added to Seasons – just over half of the levels offered during Halloween – with no promise of additional content after this. Still, now that the game has been renamed to something as vague as Seasons, don’t be surprised if we see Angry Birds Easter or Angry Birds Independence Day added as free content updates over the course of the next year.

If you already own Angry Birds Halloween, you won’t need to make another purchase. Simply download the update as soon as it becomes available. If you don’t own Halloween, Angry Birds Seasons will only set you back 99 cents and will offer all 45 Halloween episodes for you to bide your time with while you’re waiting to unlock that new Christmas content.

The Angry Birds Seasons update has been submitted to Apple for approval and will arrive on the App Store later today. If you happen to own an Android, the game is already available for download.

Angry Birds Halloween Preview

After months and months of free content updates expanding the shelf life of the original game, the developers at Rovio decided it was time to offer us a spooky holiday treat. As of midnight tonight, Angry Birds Halloween will be available to iPhone gamers around the world, complete with its own special brand of tricks and treats!

More of a special edition than a proper sequel, fans of the original can expect the familiar Angry Birds gameplay to remain intact as they attempt to solve 45 puzzling new levels. The game has been given a visual makeover to reflect its Halloween theme, complete with an eerie background, spooky theme music, pumpkins, and costumed pigs.

Rovio paints a pretty clear picture of what to expect in the following description;

“The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake – even on Halloween. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ hideouts and smash any and all pesky pumpkins in the process.”

If you’re a fan of the original Angry Birds, don’t worry – this seasonal release doesn’t signify the end of the original game’s support. Rovio is still committed to providing regular free updates to the original – even if they did decide to take a break from free content to put together this 99 cent spooktacular ($1.99 on the iPad).
