First Wooga, now PopCap: has the Google+ mass exodus begun?

Jun 14, 2012

We recently reported that developer Wooga was removing their games from Google+ come July 1. If that wasn’t bad enough news for the already struggling platform, it looks like PopCap is following suit with Bejeweled Blitz: Come June 18, the game will no longer be available on the social network.

PopCap reportedly being bought for $1 billion. ZUMA!

Jun 22, 2011

Techcrunch is reported a rumor that someone is close to buying PopCap Games for $1 billion. That’s right, I said it - $1 billion … dollars!

Techcrunch speculates on who the buyer may be. Rumors were that Zynga was looking very closely at PopCap but got scared off by the big price tag. There is always Electronic Arts, but with their own valuation of $5 billion, $1 billion sounds awfully high. Other good candidates are companies from Asia, especially since this has been an area of huge investment for PopCap in the past few years.

Diamond Dash Review

Mar 23, 2011

3.5

Bejeweled Blitz set a trend for arcade puzzlers on Facebook, giving players one-minute bursts of match-3 gameplay that proved to be massively popular. Now Wooga, already with several solid puzzle games to its name, is attempting to emulate that formula with Diamond Dash. It’s a solid and enjoyable effort, though it’s definitely lacking when it comes to options.

Feevo Review

Feb 28, 2011

4

Match-3 is one of the dominating casual game genres, but it never took off quite the same way on Facebook. You've got Bejeweled Blitz, and... yeah, that's it. While Tetris Online's Feevo bears more than a passing resemblance to Bejeweled Blitz, it's still a refreshing change of pace from the endless avalanche of management sims and RPGs that you otherwise see on Facebook. Feevo is a game with some interesting quirks as match-3 games go and opts for a turn-based rather than a timer-based limit on gameplay.

Miner Speed Review

Dec 21, 2010

3

King.com’s Miner Speed takes the match-three gameplay and one minute time limit from Bejeweled Blitz and offers a few slight variations on this popular formula. However, these slight variations are just that – slight, and don’t do enough to make the game stand apart from its extremely popular competition.

Puzzle Saga Review

Dec 9, 2010

4

Puzzle Saga is a concept that seems inescapably bound by success: a Facebook game that merges match-3 gameplay with RPG fantasy battles in the vein of the multiplatform casual hit Puzzle Quest. While Puzzle Saga is quite good by Facebook standards, it's no Puzzle Quest. The puzzle battles are real-time instead of turn-based and there's no real level of customization. The emphasis is on making matches as quickly as possible rather than necessarily making the best matches.

Zuma Blitz Review

Nov 11, 2010

5

Zuma Blitz is an implacable foe of getting things done. It waits for you on Facebook, promising a brief burst of joy and color to brighten up breaktime, downtime, or writer’s block. It a bit like opening a bag of potato chips: you keep telling yourself “Just one more!” until suddenly the bag is empty.

Zuma Blitz is a perfectly balanced blend of arcade action and level-based progression that takes the format of Bejeweled Blitz and improves it with power-ups that are easier to use and the ability to level-up and get a steady stream of rewards.

Please note: This game is being launched in stages to ensure load balancing and etc. - if you don't have access yet, check back again very soon.
