When I was younger, a new Disney movie meant two dependable things -- a magical (if altogether too expensive) time at the theaters, and a surprisingly robust videogame. It was the company’s Renaissance, and fairytale mega-hits like Aladdin and Lion King spawned clever, well-received playable titles that were often just as absorbing. But rebirth doesn’t last forever.

In November of last year, we reported on what was then an “upcoming” animated web series to be based on Disney’s mega-popular physics puzzler Where’s My Water? Today - almost exactly a year later - it seems the mouse house is willing to pull the curtain back on the first webisode of Where’s My Water? Presents: Swampy’s Underground Adventure. A few weeks ago, we posted up a behind the scenes video about Disney’s mega-popular iOS game Where’s My Water?. In it, Senior Game Designer Time Fitzrandolph said they were “trying to come up with new characters and new worlds that are worthy of Disney, but start as a game first.” Sounds like someone at Disney animation was on board with his sentiments, as the company has announced that Swampy will be starring in his own series of web animations in 2012.
