  If I remember correctly, just below the vines (or a little to the left of the vines) there is some wood that resemble tangled roots, you need to put your scientist there and they will collect it and automatically make the tool to cut the vines.

  Put him where it says he sees flexible pieces of wood. This is found at the lower part of the vines-ps. It takes ages 2 cut them
