The gem only appears after the fire has been going for a certain number of hours (can't remember how many). Keep burning the fire and it will eventually turn up!
To be able to pick it up you need to get your people to pour water on it from the waterfall where they drink and wash etc. Drop someone on the waterfal once the gem appears and they will start carrying water to the firepit. You need to do this quite a number of time. You'll know when you can pick it up when the people you drop on the waterfall will start drinking in stead of carrying water to the fire. Then you can drop someone on the gem!

Thanks for posting how to pick up that gem. My fire's been out for three days now yet they all complain about it being too hot- three days, you'd think it would've cooled off enough by now!

one time when i was playing the demo, before i bought the full game, i made a fire, and when it went out, there was some sort of gem in the fire pit. i went over to pick it up and it said it was too hot to pick it up. in my full version game, my fire has just recently went out, but theres no gem. so does anyone know how to get the gem to be there, and how to get it out??? thanks so much
