The universe is a strange, unpredictable place. I could list a billion reasons for this, but I’ll focus instead on one of the major ones: everyone, everywhere is playing a massive game of Scrabble. You’re probably as surprised as I was when I first found out, and I’m sure you have tons of questions. I can’t help with that, but what I can do is tell you how well President Obama performed on this eternal Scrabble board during his second inauguration speech. With his frequent usage of ten dollar words like “liberty” and “equal,” he scored a total of 238 points.

Barack Obama doesn’t have a ton of free time, what with being the President of the United States of America and all. But when he and First Lady Michelle Obama have a few excess minutes on their hands, they often turn to Scrabble for iOS. That in itself is nothing revelatory, but watching them lovingly bicker about it (video below) is nothing short of heartwarming.

Scrabble may be universally loved, but it hasn't really offered anything new to spice up crossword formula since the game debuted in 1938. That's more than 70 years with nary a tweak to the rule book. Previous releases like 2006's Scrabble Deluxe have done a tremendous job of perfecting Scrabble's board game to video game transition, so what's left to tackle?
