The Room gets a new epilogue chapter in free update coming this Thursday

Fireproof Games has announced today that the mysterious epilogue chapter they’ve been teasing for their popular puzzle-adventure game The Room will be making its anticipated debut in a free update this Thursday across all available platforms. The Room is an incredibly atmospheric first-person puzzle game of sorts, in which players must scour every inch of a shadowy room to find the means to unlock a series of intricately crafted boxes, filled with just as many secrets.

The Room makes its Android debut in the latest Humble Bundle

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that The Room was the best iPad game to be released in 2012.  And by go out on a limb, I mean “agree with every iPad owner on the planet, as well as Gamezebo’s own Best of 2012 list).  The box within a box within a box provided more puzzlers per second than any game I’ve had the joy of encountering; the only complaint being that there isn’t more of it.

Hero Academy, The Room nominated in "Best Mobile/Handheld Game" category at Game Developer’s Choice Awards

It wasn’t so long ago that smartphone/tablet games were considered a passing phase - not to mention inferior to games on dedicated mobile gaming platforms (which is a shame because that version of Snake on old Nokia phones was awesome). But things have changed a lot since then, and in fact smartphone/tablet games have popped up in the “Best Mobile/Handheld Game” category of the Game Developer’s Choice Awards four years in a row now. This year, it’s The Room and Hero Academy.

The Room is a puzzle-adventure game that will instantly remind you of the old Myst games – assuming you’re as old as I am, that is. If it’s before your time, keep it to yourself; I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that The Princess Bride is 25 years old. Where were we? Ah yes, The Room. It’s a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in a box. A beautiful, devilish box.
