As the year 2010 ends, 3-D city-building games continue to grow into a big trend on Facebook. Exhibit A, of course, is CityVille (and it’s 20 million inhabitants).

As the year 2010 ends, 3-D city-building games continue to grow into a big trend on Facebook. Exhibit A, of course, is CityVille (and it’s 20 million inhabitants).
As for Exhibit B, let me present to you RamaCity, an upcoming 3D social game by Bigpoint.
RamaCity will offer a lot of what we have already seen with city building games on Facebook. You are a mayor of your city and must make your citizens happy as any urban planner would: by designing a city filled with commerce, restaurants, housing, entertainment and job opportunities.
RamaCity will be social in that players will be able to create citizens and send them to their friends’ cities. There will also be a franchising feature similar to that in CityVille (which we predict we’ll be seeing in a lot a city-building games soon).
What I find most interesting about RamaCity is it’s visual styling. The game characters look like they come straight out of a Lego box and the buildings are a mish-mash of various styles and designs. Players can place an ice cream covered shop next to a Dali-like looking skyscraper to create cities that look like cartoon-art.
You’ll never confuse any of the screen shots for pictures in Architecture Digest, but your city could look a TV cartoon. There are also a lot wind farms in the preview screens, which suggest green energy could play a big role in the success of your city, which is a nice touch.
Bigpoint plans to release RamaCity in Spring 2011 on Facebook and its network of partner web sites. Be sure to “follow” RamaCity on Gamezebo to be notified when the game is released.
