Gamezebo update for: The Oregon Trail: American Settler
Review
Let’s get something out of the way right up front: The Oregon Trail: American Settler is a cookie cutter copy of Zynga’s Frontierville. Now that we’ve acknowledged that, there are a few other things we should acknowledge too. Like the fact that the game was developed by Gameloft, one of the few companies that can somehow simultaneously clone a game and yet make it better. Or the fact that by adding The Oregon Trail license, they’ve managed to steer an existing franchise into a sensible new direction.

Over the last few years, Gameloft has become something of a master at mimicry. Their Order & Chaos Online, for example, brings a World of Warcraft inspired experience to the iPhone flawlessly – a feat most had thought impossible. Likewise, their Modern Combat series has brought a taste of Call of Duty style shooting to the App Store. Their catalogue reads like a who’s who of console quality games with clear inspirations. Now, however, the big G are turning their eyes to the world of Facebook-style gaming; and it’s a move that should leave Zynga shaking in their boots.
