How Research and Upgrading can Benefit your Empire

Education and being on top of the latest technologies will move your empire to greater heights. This will open up a myriad of benefits for your city. Here are some tips and benefits of having a research facility.

Build an Academy

When you reach level 8 in the game, this will unlock the Village Academy. Build it as soon as you can to unlock the research feature in the game. Once built, you will notice the research icon turn from gray to light blue. Clicking on it will open the research window.

Researching doesn’t take much time and you only need to purchase it when needed.

Upgrading Buildings

There are some buildings that need to be upgraded for you to progress through the game. Some are optional but can be helpful to increase happiness and fame.

Looking at the window as shown on the screenshot above, researching Construction, Prospecting and Logging are needed for you to upgrade your resource buildings. When construction is researched, this will unlock the Town Quarry which will produce stone and sandstone.

When Prospecting is researched, this will unlock the Town Mine and you can now produce iron. For Logging, this will upgrade your Village Mill to a Town Mill which will produce softwood. As you increase your level, you’ll be able to upgrade and produce more materials. The new materials will be needed to construct high level buildings.

One important tip. Before upgrading to the next level, look at the countdown timer first. If you are close to collecting the material, don’t upgrade. You will lose the previous one being gathered and you’ll have to wait for 24 hours because the clock has reset.

Unlocking other research items will open up buildings that will upgrade your Hall and Market. Your Village Hall is responsible for your tax collection activities. By upgrading it, this will increase the percentage of your taxes. Upgrading your market will increase the number of coins you will receive when you visit neighboring empires.

Take note that your academy can be further upgraded.
