There are three different DNA mini-games in Monster Quest--which one are you working on?
There's one where the top picture is the color codes for the genes (Y = yellow, G = green, R = red orange) and you're supposed to take the bits from the right and put them into the bottom picture so it matches the codes in the top picture.
There's one where the top picture shows the helix and you are supposed to take the bits from the tray and put them into the bottom picture so the bottom picture will match the top.
And there's one where there's a big center oval with a lot of different DNA clusters and you're supposed to take the bits from the small window and lay them over the top of the ones they match.

The balls actually go on the bottom one. The one that looks "empty" on the top has the color codes that you are supposed to follow, but you don't put the balls there. You use them to fill in the pattern on the bottom so it matches the codes on the top.
If they don't stick on the bottom, try putting the ball in the right place, don't worry so much about the straight lines.
