Have to agree with others, the game was way too short. Very interesting, and partly based on a real murder mystery of ayoung woman in the 19th century. As long as they do not present games involving recent murders, where family members are still living, then its fine with me. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Wonderful play. Oodles of atmosphere. BUT...toward the end, the game locked up my computer. This has happened to me before with other games & I've been able to close the game, reopen & play through. Not with this one. It locked up in the same place, so I was unable to complete the game. Disappointed. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

You've gotta try this one! It has everything...Fantastic spooky scenes and creepy game art, combines with ghostly apparitions. And the pointer is a cool skeletal hand! The game offered me a good challenge without being too much a toughy. And the mini games? Good also, not to hard, not too easy. I guarantee that it will keep you occupied for a day or two! I don't understand the big praise this game has gotten, it's very simple and annoying because I can't find all the clues in a location at once, I have to wait until I find like 6 of them to flip the page and get the other set of clues, then I have to wait for everything to be done to be able to use the inventory items, the graphics didn't impress me (it feels like a Ravenhearst copy). The music is good though, and so are the sound effects, but other than that I finished my hour trial and so long game. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

This game could've been much better. The graphics and creepy level were great but it was just too easy. You were always told where to go next and what to do. That's not fun. It's too bad, the potential was there. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

I loved this game. It wasn't that hard, but it was fun. It did crash to the desktop twice, but only to a small window and I was able to bring it right back up. But the game was fairly easy and relaxing, about 4 hours for me. I loved the story and kept me interested. I would love to see more of these games. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Oh. My. Goodness. When I saw the release announcement of this, I internally mocked and ridiculed. (Poe murdered? Solution through interviewing ghosts? Har-de-har-har-HAR!) But, golly, most of the folks here really seemed to like it, and I'd just given up on "The Clumsys" (can't follow the footprint/handprint finder), so I downloaded the trial. I love it. Strengths: (1) immersive, dark atmosphere that (for me) avoids the real horror of "Return to Ravenhurst". (2) great hint system, described by others. (3) I never felt that an object's hiding spot was unfair, except one or two times that may be due to my limited color vision. (4) Reasonable objects to be found that, at least so far, don't include a hot dog or (my personal aggravant) an abacus. I'm through the first of the three sections and do not yet have a quibble. I've been fortunate not to have the performance issues some have mentioned. I think I may be replaying this one a lot. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Wow, fabulous! I hope the same MumboJumbo team is working on another masterpiece right this minute. While often macabre, the graphics are terrific and the game play is full of surprises. The hint system alone is worth a few stars. I'll confess to clicking randomly several times just to watch the raven pick up his lantern in his talons and fly away from the black cat. Brilliant. The game followed the real life story of Mary Rogers quite nicely, too. Every time ghosts appeared, especially Poe in chains, my computer slowed down almost to stop but I decided to blame my graphics card rather than this clever and beautifully constructed game. One of the best HOG's I've seen in a long time. I won't repeat the kudos already expressed by others, but this is a beautifully designed, well thought out game that deserves a lot of customers. There is so much schlock out there - this kind of quality work should be supported. I'll highlight just two of the many ways this game is superior to others: the integration of the hidden objects with the story, and, the ingenious hint system. Totally loved it. Absolutely GORGEOUS to look at and great musical background to boot. Many many hints, but never needed most. I am always afraid the minigames will be too hard for me or I won't be able to figure out what tool is needed to open the next scene. Not a problem in this game; if anything, was TOO easy. But that was fine also. Interesting objects fairly placed; no draconian overclick penalties. Plenty long; interesting, well-assembled plot. If only there had been voice acting too! A winner IMO. This game has everything, beautiful clear graphics, able to skip mini games, fantastic storyline, fun mini games, I like that I don't feel overwhelmed and not handed the entire list of hidden objects at once. I love the people giving their opinion of the crime, and the spooky characters that pop in unexpected. The only way I could think of asking for improvement of this game, would have been voices to the characters. However I just can 't bring myself to take away a star because of the lack of voice overs. Congrats on a great game. I highly recommend this game. I really like the way the raven points out where the hidden object is when we need a clue. There is no doubt where the raven is pointing, and the hints fill up quickly. I hope there will be a sequel to this game with an option to have voices. I know when a game is a great game, I have a problem stopping long enough to review it. Ok I reviewed it and now back to playing some more. I almost forgot I love the way when we find certain objects we use the objects so it is interactive Hog also. Also I love that when we highlight the hidden object we can see what the object looks like. One last thing when you click too many times a scary, mangy one eyed cat comes and hisses and claws at you! That is just too funny, and the only damage is he chases away the raven who has the hints, but don't worry the hints return quickly. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Embarrassed to be so much in the minority - but no way I would buy this game. The screens are terribly dark, and the graphics resolution is not outstanding (Department 42 has spoiled me.) The crow hint thing was good and the puzzles were reasonable - but hey, I just didn't take to it. Edit: Well! This is even more embarrassing. I read all those glowing reviews and decided to try it again. So I bought it - and yes, the graphics are gorgeous, the story is fun. Great game. I think the trial got me past the parts I found boring (making stone rubbings, for instance). Sorry I can't add 2 more stars at this point..
2nd Edit. Back to my first opinion. Although some screens are beautiful others are dark and murky and force excessive hint use. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Can't believe this is my second five star review today. BFG has come out with back to back winners. This one, however, looks to be much shorter so may not be the same value as Dept. 42. However, I loved the graphics and the skeleton hand cursor. The music and the game play were great. The only thing that I might subtract half a point for would be the "stickiness" of the cursor, and the slowness on the pages where we had to "click here to continue." I really wish we had the ability to give 1/2 ratings. How 'bout if Gamezebo? OK, one more tiny gripe; getting only part of the list of items to find since they are in the diary. There are other HOG's that do that and, personally, I prefer to see the whole list at once. That way if there is something I have trouble finding, often by the time I've cleared more items, the one I couldn't find before becomes easier to spot. But as I said, this is just a minor gripe. Like everyone else that mentioned it, I loved the cat when I clicked too many times. The game is pretty easy, but it's fun to see where it's going to go. In the one hour demo, I got up to, and a little into, Chapter 3. There are 6 chapters altogether. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Excellent job of integrating HOG, story, adventure, graphics, sound, etc. First game of this sort that I didn't require ANY help from a Walkthrough, because the puzzles were are logical and rational. Moved at a swift pace and never seemed to bog down. It did seem that the developers spent most of their time on Chapter 1 (which goes on and on and on) and were trying to rush the game out by the time I got to Chapter 3, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. Puzzles and minigames were not repetitive at all or at least not boringly so. I loved the River Crossing Puzzle. Definitely a BUY NOW! Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

This is the best game I've tried all year. The graphics are superb, with an attention to detail that is phenomenal. You want ripples on the sea with moving schoals of fish? You've got them. Wind moving the trees, plants and even fish on a line in a coordinated way? All yours. Items blend in well, and hard-to-find items are cunningly, rather than frustratingly, concealed. The objects you are looking for 'fit' the scene, so no looking for a parking meter under water, or a hot dog on a portrait. Items to be found change from one game to another which, with the great length of the game, increases replay value. Usually I find the story lines in HOGs are a bit of an also ran, but not here. Everything is so well integrated, and moves along in a compelling and logical way. Every aspect has been well thought through so that the game play is user-friendly without being blatantly obvious. The system for getting hints adds to the enjoyment, with the penalty for random clicking a sheer delight. So many things deserve praise; everyone will find some little quirk which is the icing on the cake. For me it was the skeleton hand for a curser. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Excellent game, great graphics, love the penalty for clicking to often (although sometimes I find myself doing that just to get the cat!), objects are hidden but also not overly hard to find. Knew within 10 minutes of the demo that it was a "must have". Great for all skill levels. Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

I agree 100% with everything thistle809 says, but I want to add one thing... I love the penalty in this game! The hints... the raven sits on top of a lantern, guarding your hints I guess, and if you click wrong too many times the raven flies off with your hints and a scary black cat appears :) Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

Breathtaking! Amazing! Fabulous! There is real genius behind this game; the graphics are phenomenal, the interactive parts are astounding, the complexity of the actual gameplay is beyond belief. This is a VERY user friendly game, which always means a lot more work for those who developed it. The information and instructions that are provided, as well as the way in which they are given makes it a joy to play. I just finished the demo and will be buying this immediately. This is a game for the imaginative, creative, curious mind. It has a wonderful balance of challenge, without being impossible; and a wonderful hint system that combines the ability to see the silhouette of any object without using a hint, as well as a very precise location of the object when you do use a hint. It also provides for extra hints simply by finding ravens that are hidden in the scenes (each raven is one more hint). I like the fact that your accumulated hints stay with you, rather than resetting after each location. The developers give you a "toolbox" where certain objects are stored as you locate them, and it automatically opens when you need it. Your cursor (a skeletal hand) becomes an eyeball when you mouse over an object that needs further investigation; and it becomes moving gears where you need to use something from your toolbox. The objects are elegantly disguised, but not in ridiculous ways. You will learn things from people in various scenes, and when they have told you all they can, they disappear. There will be "visits" from Poe's "spirit" periodically to provide further clues. Great fun! An added delight is the gorgeous music. Beautifully thought out and incredibly well executed to give the player the maximum enjoyment with no problems. YES!!! Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate

This was a very fun game! Played well, objects not easy to find by they are there and can be found. I found most the objects actually looked like the object named to find. Unlike some other HOGs. The clues are fun to figure out. Wish the game went on longer!!! This is definitely a game worth playing! Give this Review a Kudos Report as Inappropriate
