Magical Diary Preview

Imagine how fun high school would have been if instead of writing an essay for your final exam, your teachers simply tossed you into the nearest dungeon to see if you were smart enough to escape. It’s all par for the course in Magical Diary, the upcoming RPG/romance sim from Hanako Games (Cute Knight, Fatal Hearts) where you play a student trying to make it through wizarding school.

Make it through wizarding school in Magical Diary

Imagine how fun high school would have been if instead of writing an essay for your final exam, your teachers simply tossed you into the nearest dungeon to see if you were smart enough to escape. It’s all par for the course in Magical Diary, the upcoming RPG/romance sim from Hanako Games (Cute Knight, Fatal Hearts) where you play a student trying to make it through wizarding school.

 Horse Hall

Like Hanako’s past games, Magical Diary looks like it will feature a deeply layered story with dozens – if not hundreds – of different choices to make along the way. You can learn spells from five “colors” of magic and then put your skills to the test during free-roaming dungeon sections where you’ll have to come up with creative ways to get past obstacles depending on the skills you’ve acquired in class. According to the developer, there are already more than 50 spells in the game, and it’s far from finished!

 Horse Hall

There will also be a heavy social element to Magical Diary as your character can make friends and enemies, flirt, insult, pursue romantic relationships, and try to bag a date for the School Prom while avoiding being kicked out of school.

 Horse Hall

Magical Diary will launch for PC, Mac and Linux as a series of chapters, the first of which will be subtitled Horse Hall. Each chapter will be set in a different hall in the academy, with its own cast of characters. It’s still in early development, but Hanako Games is offering preorders for $9.95 – half price – for people who would like to buy in early at a discount. Visit Hanako Games for more info. There’s a developer’s diary with more screenshots here.
