You might not have DirectX, which is necessary to run the game.
Here's one place you can download it:
http://directx.en.softonic.com/

Yes, I have Direct X - in fact I downloaded it from the Microsoft Site yesterday just to make sure that it was up to date.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

One of the best HOs!! Took a week to complete it but that was the nicest feature, separate stories so easier to do one or two and close it (dishes got washed, email caught up and to bed). Timed out on a few and replay was fun too as it changed.
Had to go back and find 2 caps I missed and thx for how to do that clicking thru the titles. Only now I'm not sure if I finished the chemistry puzzle. I got the solution in 3 or 4 tries several times then it comes back to do again? Maybe it doesn't say The End? but a puzzle you can play around with just for fun. Just tells you how many tries you did to get it right.
I hope to see more games like this, separate mini game stories instead of hardly knowing how many levels and where you are in progressing to the end. Beautiful layouts, loved the on/off mag glass when I needed it. Think I'll give it a second go while waiting for my next BF credit.

If you collect all 16 Sherlock Holmes hats, one in each case, then the Chemistry game is a bonus. It is a mini game that you can play over and over just for fun.

Deb--
At what point is the game crashing? Do you see any logos displaying at the beginning? What are your system specs?Another guess is that you don't have the codec needed to play the logo movie. Try downloading it from here:

Thank you - I shall download that codec as suggested. Unfortunately the game does not even start before the system freezes up. All I have to do is double-click on the desktop icon to try to start it up and the freeze happens straight away.
I shall try the codec and advise if that worked. Thanks again.

I have since downloaded and installed the codec as directed, however it's made no difference and the computer still freezes up whenever I try to run the game from the desktop icon. Help!

Hey Debphil, that's great news!!
Do you know what was it that worked for you? If you share it maybe you can help someone else with the same issues. If you're not sure what did it maybe you could tell us the last thing you tried to do before you turned your computer back on.
Thanks

I have this problem when i want to continue to start the 4th case.
The whole screen hang when Legacy Interactive logo came out pretty laggy, and it when the menu screen came out, it just hang there, and the music of the previous screen is infinite looping...
Mind telling me how you resolved the problem?
Thanks very much..

I had resolved the problem by replacing with another legacy video file with same name, it works though...
