Hot off the heels of a new single in support of Haitian earthquake relief, the band has both a new album and a new video game on the way. The video game will be a first for the band, offering iPhone gameplay that harkens back to old NES classics.

The video game will be a first for the band, offering iPhone gameplay that harkens back to old NES classics.
The story of Linkin Park: 8-Bit Rebellion revolves around the evil corporation PixxelKorp. PixxelKorp have stolen the band’s music, and it’s up to players to locate the lost tracks and save the band from disaster. The game will span several unique worlds, each based on a different band member. Many of the levels feature original artwork created by the band.
Gameplay appears to be fairly action-heavy, with players given a variety of weapons to battle their PixxelKorp enemies. Linkin Park: 8-Bit Rebellion also features some “virtual world” elements, allowing to meet and chat with friends while on their quest to recover the lost tunes. Players will be able to create their own avatars and dress them in unique outfits, allowing for a different appearance than the avatars of their friends.
The game will also serve as a showcase for the band’s music. Original versions of some of their greatest hits will be joined by newly remixed “8-bit” version done in the chiptune style. Expect to hear chiptune renditions of “New Divide,” “One Step Closer,” “In The End,” “Crawling,” “QWERTY,” “Hands Held High,” “Faint,” and “No More Sorrow.”A brand new song, “Blackbirds,” will be unlocked by players upon completion of the game.
