Sep 13, 2011

As The Sims Social sails to the top of the charts on Facebook, six other games from Playfish aren't doing quite as well. In fact, games like My Empire and Hotel City are doing so poorly that the developer will be shutting them down by the end of this month.

Hotel City Playfish Cash sale
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are definitely the time for sales, and if you're a Facebook gamer who doesn't mind spending money in games, you can get a great deal around this time of year. Today, Playfish has kicked off a 48 hour sale that gives great discounts on your favorite Playfish Cash items in Hotel City.

For the next 44+ hours, all Playfish Cash items in Hotel City will be 25% off. This means items, rooms, and everything else in the store. Regardless of what you want in the store, you'll see the old price crossed off, and a new discounted price shown instead. This appears to be a Cyber Monday-inspired sale, although it's continuing throughout tomorrow as well so you'll have a bit of extra time to spend your cash.

Perhaps you want to check out the new sweet candy themed rooms and decorations? Or maybe you'd like to buy the Vegas casino items to go with your free Casino room? The choice is yours, but as long as you purchase within the next 44 hours or so, you'll get a sweet 25% discount.

Add More Fright To Your Hotel City This Halloween With New Rooms, Decorations

Oct 23, 2010

In addition to the Dracula Room released in Hotel City earlier this month, Playfish has been hard at work creating even more spooky rooms that may or may not scare the daylights out of your customers.

The first is the Pumpkin Room, available to purchase for 20 Playfish Cash. It will generate 200 coins and 200 experience points per hour. Other rooms are the Ghostly Attic and Mad Scientist Room.

In addition, some new decorative items have been added to the game's store, allowing you to transform your previously placed rooms into those that are also ready to trick or treat your guests this Halloween. It should be noted that most of these items are those that are found in the complete rooms mentioned above, so you can also put these rooms together yourself if you have the funds and patience to do so.

Some of the items include a Pumpkin Four-Posted Bed, a Pumpkin Red-Eyed Moon painting, a cobweb wallpaper, sofas and more. These items are available for both coins or Playfish Cash, so there's a little something for everyone to enjoy the season.

Hotel City gets ready for its first Halloween with new location and decor

Oct 14, 2010

Hotel City gets ready for Halloween
Hotel City Halloween Ground DecorationsIt's hard to believe that Playfish's Hotel City is less than a year old (it launched in March), so this will be its first time trick-or-treating players with new Halloween goods.

Let's see what the game has lined up... for starters, the Locations feature has been updated with "Creepy Valley", a chilling, full moon background that will also allow you to purchase the Dracula room (costs 60,000 coins, grants 195 coins per hour) when unlocked. Unlocking the background requires you to collect the following: 3 Broadway Theater Tickets (found in lobbies), 4 Silver skulls (found on gifts page), and 4 Vampire grills (also on gifts page).

The Haunted Carriage (costs 75,000 coins, grants 240 coins per hour) looks like an outdoors decor piece, but it's actually sold at the in-game store under "Commercial rooms". For actual outdoors decor, there's four new pieces in "Ground decorations" -- Vagabond ghost (3 Playfish Cash), Witch tree (4 PFC), Happy Jack 'O' lantern (5 PFC), and Talking door (10,000 coins).

Is Playfish's latest 'player research session' a play-phishing scam?

Oct 5, 2010

Playfish Amazon voucher interview offer
It might be too good to be true, but today, it seems that Playfish, the maker of popular games such as Restaurant City, Pet Society, and Hotel City -- sent out an announcement to players that says it's offering $80 USD per person, in the form of an Amazon Gift voucher, to participate in a "player research session!"

All it wants from you is to make an appointment to talk to them over the phone, for one hour, while you play their games on Facebook. In exchange, they want your name, age, phone number, and time preferences. That sounds like phishing doesn't it? To top it off, they already have your email, and if you respond, you're confirming that it's yours. So normally, an offer like this reeks of scammy spam, and if you're smart, you'll delete it and move on. But this one looks too perfect to be fake; it even includes links to Electronic Arts' (which bought Playfish last November) Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Electronic Arts and Playfish: Play Games, Give Feedback
Players who got this notice are folks who signed up for an email subscription to the official Playfish newsletter, and this offer isn't limited to the United States either. A different version of the letter was posted in the forums by a concerned player, and that one is offering to pay with an £80 Amazon Gift voucher. £80 converts to $127 USD, which is way more than the offer I got. The discrepancy is enough to make me suspicious, but I did sign up for it. If anyone has any of these emails, I encourage you to share them. Other than that, we must wait for Playfish to confirm if these emails are genuine.

The person who posted her letter to the forum has caught the attention of a moderator, so I recommend checking in on this thread.

UPDATE (7 PM): A Playfish rep confirms that this offer is not spam and is, indeed, legit.

"This is a legitimate offer that we sent to a random selection of players from throughout the Playfish community. Since Playfish was founded in 2007, we've continually sought feedback and advice from our worldwide player community to help make our games as fun and compelling as they can be.

This particular survey is seeking similar player input but since it requires more time of players we felt it was appropriate to reward them for their assistance."

So, if you get an email with this offer, you can feel free to take this survey and in return, you will be compensated with an $80 Amazon credit.

Earn Free Playfish Cash in Restaurant City, Hotel City, & More!

Sep 29, 2010

While developers like Zynga or CrowdStar have the “free premium currency” systems down to what seems to be a science, either rewarding users as they level up in games, or even offering extra opportunities like Lotto Tickets in Cafe World or the PetVille Genie Gems game, Playfish is the odd man out, with Playfish Cash [...] Related posts:

The Easiest Free Playfish Cash You'll Ever Earn

Sep 28, 2010

Playfish Add Playfish Cash window
Compared to Zynga and Crowdstar, Playfish is incredibly stingy with offering free premium cash to its players. Zynga games like PetVille and Cafe World, always have free Pet Cash or Cafe Cash giveways on their official Facebook fanpages, and even through in-game activities (e.g. Cafe World's Scratch Lotto and PetVille's Daily Clean Pet Bonus). Zynga also supplies plenty of simple and easy activities from sponsors that allow players to earn premium cash through answering questions and viewing videos. Even Crowdstar lets players earn one free premium cash every time they level up in their games, but Playfish only did that once, back when they were busy promoting Hotel City in April.
Earn Playfish Cash
It's true that when you click on "Add Playfish Cash" in the Playfish games, you'll see a swarm of survey options from TrialPay. But I've reviewed these survey offers here, and concluded that they often end up wasting their time and those of the players'.
Free Playfish Cash from Kia Motors, Sony Ericsson, and VH1
Well, finally, there's a chance to snag some simple, fuss-free, no-giving-over-your-personal-info or emails or paying-real-cash or subscribe-to-random-things for free PFC! Because right now, there's three video-watching offers from Kia Motors, Sony Ericsson, and VH1 in TrialPay that'll net you 1 PFC each. Players who know how hard it is to get PFC would understand how rare an opportunity this is. All PFC earned here is good for use in Restaurant City, Hotel City, Pirates Ahoy!, Pet Society, et al. And even if you don't play any Playfish games, it's best you don't miss out.
