Remember Hidden Mysteries Civil War?  What an awful game,  it took me forever to get through the first level in the demo, impossible to find anything, the hint system was terrible,   I never purchased the game, after playing the demo I was too frazzled to say the least.

Well apparently the developers heard our cries of anguish,  Hidden Mysteries: Buckingham Palace,  is so much improved over the Civil War game,  the items are clear and easy to find,  in fact I think the game is a bit on the easy side,  The mini-puzzles are good, and if you get stumped and you will,   you can skip the scene.

One puzzle was the paintings,  all I can tell you when you come to a room, with six paintings on the wall,   remember the configuration,  you will need to recall it later on in the game.

The one big change is the hint system,  it uses credits,  you start with 10 and find 2 crowns in each scene you play,  which will add 5 credits for each crown you find.  By clicking on any item,  it will let you choose 1 credit for a silloutte, 3 credits to see what it exactly looks like,  and 5 credits will find the object for you.    The first two choices comes in handy when you run across an item you never heard of before.    I played through 5 levels and have not used 5 credits.    The hints do not carry over.

There are also puzzle scenes,  where you take objects you collect,  and use them to find gems,  you will need to find 8 gems to beat this game.    Sometimes you will need to combine items before using them,   when you come to a puzzle scene your cursor will turn purple which will show you the place you need to use the objects.

Make sure you read everything carefully,  sometimes the letters and message boxes will lead you to what you do next.

This game is fun to play,  after I played the demo, and purchased the game,  I started completely over and there were different items then before,  the puzzle items are the same.

All in all this is a good solid game,  I do give it a little lower rating because of the low difficulty level,  but the there is a lot of history contained in this game and facts which are fun to read about Buckingham Palace.

If you have kids, you will want them to play this game,  it is a good history lesson for them.     At least that is one man's opinion.

    Have fun and Tally HO!!!

  • I agree that this is much

I agree that this is much better than Civil War; I couldn't even complete the demo because some of the objects were very low on the screen and my cursor wouldn't go there. This is a fun game to play, but as has been said, a bit on the easy side (which can be OK from time to time).  I was annoyed that after the demo ended and I bought the game, I had to start over again.  At least things were fresh in my mind!

Buckingham Palace wins hands down over Civil War in terms of ease of play.  Civil War had superior graphics - I have to give it that at least! Thanks for the review gnashif Smile

I agree, much better graphics.  Kudos to the designers for listening and fixing that issue.  I liked the hint system.  Good story, history, and decent puzzles.  But the HO part was just too easy.  Most of the items weren't hidden at all, just thrown around the scenes.  Too easy and boring.  It's a shame, because if they'd gone to a little more effort to hide more things in the scenes' architectures, it could have been a great game.

*****I loved the detail of the Civil War game. Items were hidden very ingeniously! (only letdown was the mine game to get extra hints) The graphics were great. In Buckingham Palace the graphics aren't quite as crisp and the objects are much easier to find. That said, it is still a great game and very educational! For more educational follow-up you should try the HO game Mystery in London!
