I'm not far enough along in the game to give a full review, but I thought I'd mention something about the quality of the graphics.

At first, I was annoyed because the graphics have the quality of a dusty oil painting--it can be quite difficult to spot some objects.

As I went on, though, I both got better at finding things and I found I enjoyed this particular graphic quality (which surprised me), because each time I went over an area I would notice new items there!

There's little point in using a real world magnifying glass for this one--it may just make things LESS recognisable.

However, looking at the scene from a new angle, saying moving the cursor as a guide up and down instead of side to side, or tilting your head a different way may cause an item to suddenly "pop" into view. This is also true of classic real world oil paintings, where the texture of the paint affects the shadows on it.

The hint system is very good, and I liked both being able to see the silouettes of items and choosing a specific item to get a hint for.

So what annoyed me about the graphics for the first few levels ended up adding to my enjoyment and giving the game more depth as I got further into it. Interesting. Send a Kudo Post a Reply Quote & Reply

Very happy to see you gave the game a chance and changed your mind about the graphics. Totally agree with you, as you so aptly describe, the graphic quality of the game is such that it allows the player see much more than just a cluttered scene put there simply to hide objects in. Your first glimpse of each new screen serves either to set up the new place you have arrived at or continue the overall mood/feel of the area and helps immerse you into the “adventure” of a Quest rather than a simple “search for an object” race against the clock, which so many of HO games have. The fact that there is no clock allows for the player to take their time and fully enjoy the game instead of rushing head-long thru to a point where the “unlimited mode”, or its equivalent, is released and the game enjoyed in full. Kudos to BF for producing a great game and giving us, (or as Lizzie aptly put it, and I add “mice”) many hours of gaming fun! When all is said and done, isn’t this one of the main reasons we play these game? For the FUN of it. An I for one, am proud to be one. Not sure if this was the right place to put this MargieB. Feel free to change it if you want.
