Flashout 3D gets ready to bring a taste of Wipeout-inspired future racing to multiple platforms
The upcoming Flashout 3D promises high-intensity racing action with great graphics and sound, challenging multiplayer, and more, all set in a futuristic sci-fi world that might strike some players as just a wee bit familiar.
There’s no question that Flashout 3D is heavily “inspired by” Sony’s Wipeout games, but with that acknowledged, there’s also a good likelihood that a lot of gamers would enjoy the opportunity to jump into their own “rocket racers” on non-Sony platforms. Assuming no lawsuits or cease-and-desist letters are forthcoming, Flashout 3D will let them do just that, combining high-speed solo and multiplayer action with cutting-edge visuals and an “interactive equalizer” that affects the look of the game and even allows players to import their own tunes.
The single-player portion of the game will feature super-fast, heavily armed and fully upgradeable racers duking it out in multiple game modes on numerous highly detailed tracks. Players looking for a more serious challenge will be able to take it from the strip to the street – virtually speaking, of course – in online multiplayer events, while achievements and leaderboards for the iOS version of the game will be supported through Apple’s Game Center. Apple owners will also enjoy iCloud saves and “additional effects” on the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and 3.
Perhaps most intriguing, however, is the “Side-By-Side 3D” mode, which will let owners of SBD 3D televisions connect their devices via Apple TV or HDMI cable and play the game in true 3D on the big screen.
It may not be the most original idea ever, but it sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Flashout 3D is expected to be released for iOS and Android devices in the second quarter of 2012, with the PC and Mac versions set to follow shortly after.
