General Tips for Adventure Portion/Room View

  • You will be in Room View, which the game calls MAP. You’ll be able to see an entire room and move from room to room by clicking on arrows at the exits.
  • If your cursor changes to a magnifying glass, there is something to examine more closely there.
  • You will be able to collect some inventory objects by clicking on them.
  • If an area of the scene sparkles, there is usually a zoom scene there.
  • If you need to put something into a zoom scene and you click on the regular room view, the game will say the object is not needed there even if you put it in exactly the right spot. Always open a zoom scene before putting inventory items there.
  • The inventory tray at the bottom of the screen will show you the inventory objects you have collected.
  • The icon in the lower right corner will be a book. It will show you your total game progress so far. This can be a little confusing, because it lists "42 chapters" which are the missing chapters from the author’s novels.
  • The Adventure portion itself is divided into Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3. These don’t really have anything to do with anything, they just appear as titles on the screen when you reach certain points in the game.
  • In Room View you can go back and forth between any unlocked rooms in any order you like.

General Tips for Hidden Object/Novel View

  • While you are in Room View, you will sometimes find pages torn from the author’s novels. When you click on one of these pages, it will open up into a Hidden Object scene.
  • There are 14 different scenes, and you will visit each one 3 times by finding 3 pages from that novel in different rooms. This equals the 42 chapters listed in the book icon.
  • While you are in Novel View, the inventory tray at the bottom of the screen will show you the objects that you need to put back into the scene.
  • It is very important that you start by reading the text description of each object in the inventory tray, as these will be essential clues to where to place the objects.
  • Click on any object you like, then hover it over different parts of the scene to see the text labels for the items that are in the scene. This gives you more clues about where things might go.
  • Different inventory objects will trigger different in scene labels.
  • You will only be able to see text labels for objects in the scene when you hovering an inventory object over them.
  • When you find a place where you want to place an object, just click there.
  • If you need a hint about where to place an object, first click on the object, then click on the crystal ball icon on the left. A circle of stars will outline the area where the object goes.
  • Each scene contains two "E cards"-cards with the letter E on them. Click on these to collect them.
  • The E cards make the crystal ball recharge faster. Just click on the E card counter on the lower left to use one to recharge the crystal ball.
  • Each time you visit the novel scene, you will have a different Find List. However, the scene resets, so that an item you fixed on the first visit will be broken again on the second. This doesn’t change the gameplay, but it can be a little confusing.
  • To see your progress with the Hidden Object scenes, switch back to Room View by clicking the MAP icon in the lower right, then click on the Book in the lower right. It will tell you which scenes you visited and how many times.

General Tips for Painting Mini-Games

  • As you go through the game in Room View, you will see paintings on the wall. When you click on one of these, you will get a zoom view and a mini-game where you place figurine tokens in groups based on clues you collect in the game.
  • You will find the figurines as you travel through adventure mode.
  • To review your figurine inventory, just zoom in on any painting and the tokens you have available will appear in your inventory tray.
  • You can move tokens in and out of any painting as you go, so if you are missing one, it may be that you put it in the wrong painting.
  • When you have all of the tokens for one painting placed correctly, you will automatically switch back to Room View and you will be able to take an inventory object from behind it.  Or it might reveal another novel page. A few paintings have more than one item, so click on everything you see revealed.

General Tips for Other Mini-Games

  • In a few places in the game when you are in Room View you will click on something that will trigger a pairs matching card game or another puzzle.  Read the instructions carefully. For example, one game wants you to match an animal with its home, so you match a bird with a nest and a dog with a doghouse.
  • In the food matching game, you need to match an animal with its food. Exmine the lower right corner of each card. If the symbol is of a fat fish with it mouth wide open, that is the animal doing the eating. If the symbol is of a thin fish with its mouth closed, that card counts as food for another animal.

WALKTHROUGH PART 1 (CHAPTERS 1-13)

This section has 5 different parts.

HELP! I’M STUCK!

  • Make sure the icon on the lower right is the book. If it says MAP, click on it to return to Room View.
  • Click on the book to see how many chapters you’ve completed. If you’ve completed 0-3, use the Knight’s Door Checklist.
  • If you’ve completed 4-13, use the Elevator Checklist.
  • You can also look at the Walk With Me section to see how I solved the game, but you might have done things in a different order. That’s fine, as long as you complete everything needed.

Help! I’m Stuck! Knight’s Door Checklist

To complete chapters 0-3 and unlock the Knight’s Door in the Entryway, you need to have done all the following:

  • Completed The Mysterious Clocktower 1 from the study and collected the eagle button.
  • Completed Darkwood Manor 1 from the Entryway and collected the small bird button.
  • Solved the puzzle in the drawer of the desk in the Entryway and collected the Sturdy Hammer.
  • Used the Sturdy Hammer on the nail in the Front Door View and collected the Yang pendant half.
  • Put the sword from the Entryway on the plaque on the right side of the hall.
  • Looked in the green box on the wall underneath the sword box.
  • Completed And Now for My Next Trick 1 from that green box and collected the swan button.
  • Completed the Lovely Jane portrait puzzle from the left side of the hall and collected the Yin pendant half.
  • Used the Yin and Yang pendant halves to unlock the Knight’s Door in the Entryway.

That will complete Chapters 1 – 3. in your journal (book icon on the lower right of the Room View scenes) and give you access to the next part of the game.

Help! I’m Stuck! Elevator Checklist

To complete chapters 4-13 and unlock the Elevator, you need to have done all the following after you go through the Knight’s Door:

  • Go in the Old Globe Antique Shop and collect the gear from the left wall and the sledgehammer from the right wall. Complete And Now For My Next Trick 1 and collect the Saw button.
  • Solve the puzzle on the door to the Potions shop to unlock the door.
  • Go in the Potions Shop and collect the minute hand from the counter. Complete Enchanted Forest and the Seven Seals 1 and collect the Fishhook button.
  • Go upstairs in the Potions Shop. Collect the battery from the vase. Complete Mysterious Clocktower 2 and collect the Bullet button.
  • Go back out to the mall.
  • Go to the entrance to the Aquatic Museum. Break the vase on the left, complete Strange Tales on Meadowcreek Farm 2 and collect the Log button.
  • Do the mini-game on the green crystal on the right. Complete Journey to the Ancient Parthenon 1 and collect the Binoculars button.
  • Go inside the museum to the Aquatic Museum Exhibit Room. Complete The Great Museum Caper 1 and collect the Bait button. Do the Jay the Legendary Fisherman portrait puzzle and collect the teacup emblem.
  • Go back to the teashop. Use the teacup emblem on the shelf. Complete Playful Teddy’s Lullaby Adventures 1 and collect the Hammer button. Collect the owl’s ruby gem.
  • Go across the mall to the Globe Antique Shop. Put the owl’s ruby gem in the right owl’s eye. Collect the fish emblem.
  • Go to the Aquatic Museum Entrance and go inside. Go up the right to the Aquatic Museum control room.
  • Complete Enchanted Forest and the Seven Seals 2 and collect the Glue button.
  • Put the fish emblem into the device on the right. When it opens, put the gear there.
  • Go back outside. Go up the right to the Elevator.
  • Complete Darkwood Manor Haunted Stories 2 on the left crystal and collect the Chisel button.
  • Put the battery into the crystal on the right and complete Strange Tales on Meadowood Farms 3 and collect the Hunting Horn button.
  • Go back to the potions shop. Go upstairs and complete the Shawn the Enigmatic Toymaker portrait puzzle. Collect the hour hand.
  • Go back to the Elevator. Put the minute hand and the hour hand on the elevator. Now you can use it to continue to the next part of the game.

  • Use sledgehammer from Old Globe Antique Shop to break open cracked vase
  • Complete Meadowcreek Farm 2 and collect the log button.
  • Do the matching puzzle on the green crystal on the right.

  • Bait button for use in the Jay the Legendary Fisherman portrait in this room

Elevator

To get here, go to the Aquatic Museum Entrance, then click upscene to the right of the building.

Things to See:

  • Sign on the far left telling when the elevator operates.

Things to Find:

  • Chisel Button needed for Shawn the Enigmatic Toymaker (Potions Shop Upstairs)
  • Hunting Horn Button needed for Shawn the Enigmatic Toymaker (Potions Shop Upstairs)

Things to Do:

  • 2nd visit: Put minute hand and hour hand on elevator. Click on elevator to enter it.

Exits:

Entryway

This is the Enlightenus version of the entryway. No matter which side you come from, you always see the same point of view, with the front door behind you, the hall door on your left, and the mall door on your right.

Things to see:

  • Notice the Knight guarding the right door.

Things to Find:

  • Knight’s Sword needed for the plaque in the hall
  • Sturdy Hammer needed for the Front Door View
  • Small bird button needed for the Lovely Jane portrait (Hall)

Things to Do:

  • 1st Visit: Click on the drawer in the desk to trigger a mini-game. After you solve the game, collect the Sturdy Hammer.

Solution:

  • 2nd visit, after you have the Yin gem from the Lovely Jane painting in the hall and the Yang gem from the Front Door View, click on the Knight’s door to get a zoom view, then use them on the Knight’s door to open it.

  • Click on the door to go through to the Mall.

Exits:

Front Door View

This is the Enlightenus version of the front door you first entered, you’re just seeing it from inside the Entryway.

Things to see:

  • It’s locked!

Things to Find:

  • The Yang gem needed for the Knight’s Door in the Entryway

Things to Do:

  • Use the hammer on the nail on the panel to the right of the door. Collect the gem.

Exits:

  • Door to the outside
  • Downscene to return to the Entryway view.

Front Steps of the Mansion

This is the starting point of the game.

Things to See:

  • What the lion statue is holding
  • The book engraving on the ground

Things to Find:

  • You start the scene holding an E card in your hand. When you click to start the game, it will be added to the E-card counter at the lower left.

Things to Do:

  • Click anywhere to start.
  • Click on the door to go into the Mundane Entryway.

Exits:

Hall

This is the Enlightenus version of the hall.

Things to see:

  • 1st Visit. Notice that the plaque on the right wall is missing a weapon.
  • 1st Visit: Click on the green box on the right wall to discover that it is locked and won’t open.

Things to Find:

  • 2nd visit: After you have put back the sword, collect the swan button needed for the Lovely Jane portrait in this room.
  • 2nd visit: after you have solved the Lovely Jane painting, collect the Yin necklace for use in the Knight’s Door in the Entryway.

Things to do:

  • 1st visit: Look around, then go downscene to the entryway.
  • 2nd visit: put the polished sword from the entryway on the plaque on the right wall
  • 2nd visit: click on the green box below the plaque to complete Strange Tales on Meadowcreek Farm 1 and collect the swan button.
  • 2nd visit: click on the painting to solve the Lovely Jane puzzle and collect the Yin necklace.

Exits:

The Mall

This is the hall that leads you to the various shops

Things to See:

  • A poster on the left wall
  • A large plaque on the left wall
  • A large green crystal on the right

Things to Do:

  • Click on the door to the Potions shop for a mini-game

Solution:

  • Step 1: Find two symbols on the sliders on each side of the puzzle that match each other.

  • Step 2: Sort the tokens so that they match the weather symbols on the board, with the two potion bottles in the center.

Sun: sunflower and man with sunglasses

Night: Owl and starry sky

Clouds: Rain and Lightning

Snowflake: Penguin and Snowman

  • The door will open and from now on it will be unlocked.

Things to Find:

  • There is nothing to find in the mall, you’ll have to go into the shops. I recommend going to the Old Globe Antiques shop first, but it’s up to you.

Exits:

Mundane Entryway

You can only visit this room at the beginning of the game, before you travel to the Enlightenus world.

Things to see:

  • The portraits on the wall.
  • The door on the right is blocked.
  • The door on the left is locked-we need a key.

Things to Find:

  • Pick up the crystal ball on the table. From now on it will give you hints.
  • Behind the crystal ball by the radio is a zoom scene. Zoom in and pick up the key. It will go into inventory. You will use this on the locked door on the left.

Things to Do:

  • Use the key on the locked door on the left and it will open, giving you access to the Mundane Hall.

Exits:

  • Through the door on the left after you’ve unlocked it to the Mundane Hall.

Mundane Hall

You can only visit this room at the beginning of the game, before you travel to the Enlightenus world.

Things to see:

  • The potions on the left shelf.
  • The weapons on the right wall.

Things to do:

Click on the door at the top of the hall to enter the Study.

Exits:

Through the top door to the Mundane Study.

Mundane Study

You can only visit this room at the beginning of the game, before you travel to the Enlightenus world.

Things to see:

  • Notice that the moon is outside the window. It is night.
  • Click on the machines.

Things to Find:

  • Click on the book on the desk. It will go to the bottom right of the screen. From now on you will be able to check your progress in the game by clicking on it.

After you pick up the book, the famous author will appear and tell you more about the mystery.

Things to Do:

  • After you have listened to the author, click on the machine to go through to the Enlightenus world.

  • 1st Visit: Click on the glowing novel page on the back wall. Complete And Now For MY Next Trick 1 and collect the saw button.
  • 2nd visit: After you have the Owl’s Ruby Jewel from the hollow panel on the Potions Shop shelf, click on the right Owl once to zoom in, then place the Owl’s Red Jewel and collect the Fish Emblem. Note that if you try to use the jewel before you get the zoom scene, it will tell you it’s the wrong place.

Click on the glowing novel page revealed on the shelf and complete Playful Teddy’s Lullaby Adventures and collect the Hammer button.

Things to Find:

  • 1st visit: Battery inside vase needed for Elevator
  • 1st visit: Bullet button needed for Shawn the Engimatic Toymaker (this room)
  • 2nd visit: Hour hand needed for the Elevator

  • 1st visit: Click on glowing novel page in bookstack on table, complete Mysterious Clocktower 2 and collect bullet button.
  • 1st visit: Click on glowing vase and collect battery.

Exits:

Study

This is the Enlightenus version of the study.

Things to see:

  • Notice that it is daylight outside.
  • Notice that the transport machine is now broken!

Things to Find:

  • Pick up the 3 E Cards on the desk. You can use one of these anytime you want to recharge the Crystal Ball faster so you can use it for a hint.
  • Eagle button needed for the Lovely Jane portrait in the Hall.

Things to Do:

  • Go downscene to the hall

  • You will visit each novel chapter 3 times. The scene will be the same each time, but the objects in your inventory tray will be different.
  • If you need a hint, click on the object in the inventory tray, then on the crystal ball on the left.
  • If you need to charge the crystal ball faster, click on the E card counter below it once.
  • The E cards you can collect in each scene are marked in orange.
  • Make sure you collect the E cards before you put back the last object!

To complete chapters 14-25 and unlock the Moon Door in the Human Home, you need to have done all the following:

  • Completed a Tomb Among the Shifting Sands 1 from the Courtyard and collected the Strawberry button.
  • Gone to the Elevator and completed Journey to the Ancient Parthenon 2 and collected the Green Grape button. Also completed The Great Museum Caper 2 and collected the Coconut button.
  • Gone to the Gnome statue and completed Forgotten Idol: the Mayan Exploration 1 and collected the Green Apple button.
  • Gone to the Jack statue and completed the mini-game . This is where you will collect the machete
  • Gone to the Jill statue and completed the mini-game. This is where you will collect the Master Key.
  • From the Globe between the Jack and Jill statues, completed Whiddon’s Expedition: Atlantis 1 and collected the Watermelon button.
  • Gone to the Gnome Statue Atrium and used the machete to remove the vines blocking the way to the Cave.
  • In the Cave, completed And Now for My Next Trick 2 from the rocking chair and collected the Lettuce button. Do the mini-game on the crystal on the back, then complete Whiddon’s Expedition Atlantis 2 and collected the Banana button. Completed Colin the Whiz Kid Inventor portrait puzzle, and collected the Blue Sapphire.`
  • Completed Playful Teddy’s Lullaby Adventures 3 and collected the Cloud button.
  • Back in the Gnome Statue Atrium, used the Master Key to open the gate to the Human Home. In the Human Home, completed Mysterious Clock Tower Labyrinth 3 and collected the Potato Button.
  • Completed the Melissa the Towering Giant portrait puzzle. This is where you will collect the Ring.
  • Completed Journey to the Ancient Parthenon 3 and collected the Dirt button.
  • Gone back to the Jack and Jill statues and used the Ring and the Blue Sapphire on the Globe to unlock the door to the Hidden Bedroom.
  • Clicked on the base of the globe to enter the Hidden Bedroom.
  • Completed A Tomb Amidst the Shifting Sands 2 and collected the Moon button.
  • Completed And Now for My Next Trick 3 and collected the Wave button.
  • Done the Pat the Heavy Metal Minstrel painting in the Hidden Bedroom and collected the Moon amulet. Note that this is different from the Moon button you got earlier.
  • Gone back to the Human Home and used the Moon Amulet to open the Moon Door.
  • Clicked one more time on the Moon Door to go through it.

That will complete Chapters 14 – 25. in your journal (book icon on the lower right of the Room View scenes) and give you access to the next part of the game.

HELP! I’M STUCK!

  • Make sure the icon on the lower right is the book. If it says MAP, click on it to return to Room View.
  • Click on the book to see how many chapters you’ve completed. If you’ve completed less than 14, use Part 1 of our Strategy Guide.
  • If you’ve completed 14-25, use Part 2 of our Strategy Guide.
  • If you’ve completed 26-35, see the Hints for the Gilded Door.
  • You can also look at the Walk With Me section to see how I solved the game, but you might have done things in a different order. That’s fine, as long as you complete everything needed.

Help! I’m Stuck! Hints for the Gilded Door

You can do things in many different ways in this chapter.  So it’s easy to feel stuck. To see everything you need to do, check the Walk with Me section, which is a complete walkthrough of this chapter.

Here are some common places people get stuck:

  • There are multiple places in this chapter where you have to first click on a spot in the room with an empty cursor to trigger a zoom scene, and then after the zoom scene appears, click on an inventory item and place it. If you have an inventory item and you think you know exactly where it goes, but the game is telling you that belongs someplace else, try putting the item back into inventory and then clicking the spot with an empty cursor to trigger a zoom scene.
  • If you have the Blue Sapphire in inventory and don’t know what to do with it, take it to the Plaque Room and use it to unlock the Green Box on the wall there
  • If you can’t figure out what to do with the Stone Heart in the Garden, you probably need to find the screwdriver from Upstairs and then go back out to the Tower Entryway to get the jeweled heart from the lamp.
  • If you seem to be missing a button for the Jenny the Life Artist portrait, did you find the Blue Beetle next to the Tower Statues and did you put it into the Beetle Display in the Beetle Room?
  • Check the Alphabetical Room Guide to make sure you’ve found all the rooms. It’s easy to miss the Garden (available by going downstairs from the Upstairs room with the Green Vase) and the Balcony.
  • To open the gate to the balcony, you need the Triangular Crystal, which you get by finding the Golden Plaque, which you get by solving the Jenny the Life Artist portrait.
  • Check the Alphabetical Hidden Object Scene Guide to make sure you’ve found all the glowing pages. Several of them are hidden inside other objects in this section.

  • Once you complete this, you can either go back to the Treasure Statues and work on the Jenny portrait or you can go upstairs to the Greenhouse and work on three more things. I went to the Greenhouse first, but it’s up to you. You’re going to have to go back qand forth either way.
  • 3rd Visit: Place Stone Flower on Gilded Door to open it. Click one more time to go through to Library. That ends this part of the game.

  • Plaque Room. Click on the green box on the left wall to get a zoom scene. Put the blue sapphire on the lock to open it. Complete A Tomb Amidst the Shifting Sands 3 and collect the Lion button. Go downscene to the Tower Entryway.
  • Tower Entryway. Click on the lamp on the right to get a zoom scene. Use the screwdriver. Collect the jeweled heart. Go back through door to Plaque Room.
  • Plaque Room. Now you can either go upstairs to find the place for the jeweled heart, or go right to explore the area you haven’t been to yet. I went right to the Tower Statues.
  • Tower Statues. Complete Playful Teddy’s Lullaby Adventures 3 and collect Cat button. Collect Blue Beetle. Downscene to Plaque Room.
  • Plaque Room. Upstairs to Beetle Room.
  • Beetle Room. Click on Beetle display once to get zoom scene. Then click on Blue Beetle and place it. Complete Forgotten Idol: Mayan Exploration 3 and collect Shield button. Go upstairs.
  • Upstairs. Go downstairs to Greenhouse.
  • Greenhouse. Click on stone heart once to get zoom scene, then click on jeweled heart and put it in place. A glowing page will be revealed.
  • Complete Majestic Theater of Nobel Hill 2 and collect Beret button.
  • Complete Muscular Marvin the Grizzled General portrait and collect the Red Rose.
  • Downscene to rerurn to Upstairs.

  • Click on the book to see how many chapters you’ve completed. If you’ve completed less than 14, use Part 1 of our Strategy Guide.
  • If you’ve completed 14-25, use Part 2 of our Strategy Guide.
  • If you’ve completed 26-35, use Part 3 of the Strategy Guide.
  • There are two downscene exits that are easy to overlook. From the Entryway with the Knight, go downscene to get to the Front Door View. From the Mall, go downscene to return to the Entryway. This was locked the first time you came to the Mall, but it’s open this time.
  • You can also look at the Walk With Me section to see how I solved the game, but you might have done things in a different order. That’s fine, as long as you complete everything needed.

WALK WITH ME-my solution to the game

Because you can walk freely between unlocked rooms in the adventure portion, you may have done things in a different order. That’s fine. I just include this for people who want a directed walkthrough of the whole game.

Once you go through the Gilded Door at the end of Chapter three, you cannot go back. You start out in the Library. You will see a scrolling title that says "Ending."

  • Library. Click on the glowing page on the left wall and complete Forgotten Idol: Mayan Exploration 3. Collect the III button.
  • Click on the glowing page under the portrait and complete Whiddon’s Expedition: Atlantis 3. Collect the IV button.
  • Go through the door to Library Annex.
  • Library Annex. Click on the glowing page on the wall. Complete Majestic Theater of Nobel Hill 3 and collect V button.
  • Click on the glowing page on the wall. Complete Wildwest Jack and the Raccoon Game 3 and collect the II button.
  • Go downscene to the Library.
  • Library. Complete the Cherrie the Panda Master portrait puzzle. Collect the Golden Leaf.
  • Go through the door to the Library Annex.
  • Library Annex. Put the Golden Leaf on the machine. The author will appear. When he finishes talking, collect the Enlightenus Key from the machine. You will be able to use it in multiple doors in the rest of the game.
