  Here's a more sane answer. You have to solve the puzzles in the observatory first. You've probably seen here all the posts about lenses & molds? Well you fix the dome mechanism first by finding the short gold lever and and a gold gear. The gear goes into that box up by the crack in the dome and the lever in the next box underneath where you just put the gear. Next pull that lever and (in her best singing voice) let the sunshine in! ;v)
