Game Introduction - Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel

Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel is an adventure game from ERS Game Studios in which you must locate your friend’s little girl that has gone missing in your care. To rescue her, you learn you must solve the fifty year old mystery of the Penum family who were brutally murdered in the Penumbra Motel. Gamezebo’s Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel walkthrough will provide you with detailed images, tips, and latest information on how to play your best game.

Getting Started

  • Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel can be purchased by clicking on the “Buy Now” link at the top of this page.
  • Once the game loads enter your user name.
  • If you exit the game it will return at exactly the point you left off provided you exit the game through the menu options at the lower left of the game screen.
  • More than one player can have a game in progress by entering their unique user name at the main menu. The game will keep the last player’s game active until it is changed manually.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Options – Click on the “Options” button on the main menu to access the menu shown above. Here you can adjust the volume of the game music and sound effects as well as adjusts the screen size and custom cursors.

Choose Playing Mode

  • There are three game modes to choose from and you can toggle between these modes in mid game if you choose.
  • There is also an interactive tutorial mode which can be turned off at any time at the top right corner of the game screen.
  • The game is played the same regardless of the mode you choose the difference is that in the advanced mode there are no active zones given and it takes a very long time for the hint button to recharge versus the casual mode which only takes one minute between full charges.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Casual Mode- This is best for beginners and those that like occasional help when playing. You will see active zones which are sparkles that highlight on the areas you will need to click on. There is also a black bar that will appear with instructions when needed during the adventure portion of the game as well as mini games. You will also be able to use the hint button and it will recharge every sixty seconds between uses.
  • Hard mode – The game is played the same way except the hint button recharges much slower and there are no active zones that sparkle and give you hints as to where to click.
  • Advanced mode – This is for the expert player that wants the most challenge. There are no active zones, no hints in the black bar text area and hints recharge at a very slow rate.
  • Choose your mode when you begin the game and if you find it is too easy or too difficult return to the main menu and change your mode.

Game Cursors

 Penumbra Motel

  • There are several game cursors that guide you in the game.
  • Pointing arrow – This arrow simply points to different things in the game and serves the function of allowing you to click anywhere there is an “X” to exit a panel, mini game, or close up view.
  • Directional arrow – This arrow means you can click on it to access a new location in the game. You can get this arrow to appear at the bottom of the screen (even during mini games to back out if you choose) and on the left and right sides of the screen if there are locations there. Frequently check for additional locations by moving your cursor around the screen when you start a new location. These arrows only appear when a new location is revealed or is instantly accessible.
  • Hand – When the cursor changes to a hand you can click on the item and pick it up. You may pick it up to add to your inventory or to take it from inventory and use it on another item in the scene.
  • Magnifying Glass- This cursor appears when you have reached an area that you can zoom in to for a closer look. Another panel will usually appear that has interactive elements in it.

Game Diary

 Penumbra Motel

  • This book is located at the bottom left corner of the game screen.
  • Anytime you come across a letter, picture, flyer, or anything that contributes to the game storyline you will click on it and it will add to the diary.
  • You can click on the diary at any time and using the arrows along the bottom turn the pages to read all the documents you have found.
  • These documents can be very important as they may have hints inside them to solve future puzzles.
  • Tip – If you see numbers, initials, or any unusual patterns or markings in a written document added to your diary it is likely a solution or part of a solution to a future mini game. If you are stumped refer to your diary to look for these types of clues.
  • Game Goals – If you click on the book above the diary a list of your current game goals will appear above the book.

Using Hints

 Penumbra Motel

  • Depending upon the game mode you have chosen hints will be available to you at variable intervals. Casual mode recharges hints every sixty seconds, hard mode every three minutes and advanced mode every five minutes.
  • You will see a television monitor at the bottom right of the scene and when the screen has a full picture the hint is ready for use.
  • Click on the television to activate a hint and a moving circle image will surround the area giving you a hint as to the next location you should click on.
  • This circle does not stay in place more than a few seconds so be sure to watch for it.
  • Once the circle disappears the countdown begins and the hint meter recharges.

Using Inventory items

 Penumbra Motel

  • As you collect items in the game they will go into your inventory which is located at the bottom of the screen. You can access this by placing your cursor at the bottom of the screen at any time.
  • Items in your inventory are there to be used on other items in other scenes of the game.
  • For example you may find an empty bucket in one scene and later on find a body of water. If you click on the bucket in the inventory and then on the water you will see the bucket fills up with water. You may be able to use it right then, or it may add back into your inventory as a bucket full of water instead of an empty bucket and when the opportunity presents itself you can use it where needed.
  • Note – Some items in inventory are used more than once and will return to inventory. Others once used disappear if they are never needed again.

Storyline Films

 Penumbra Motel

  • There are two types of storyline films in the game. One plays out the storyline and bridges the locations and you will usually see a text box along the bottom which is narrated as shown in the image above.
  • You have the option to skip these films by clicking on the screen.

Playing Collected Film Reels on the Projector

 Penumbra Motel

  • The game has a feature where you will find film reels which play along to the storyline, give hints, or help bridge one location to the next.
  • These film reels go inside a green box located at the bottom right of the game screen near the hint box.
  • If you click on the box it will open and you can click on any film reel you have collected, place it on the projector and then click the on button to watch it.

Chapter One

 Penumbra Motel

  • Watch the video that starts the game.
  • You can watch this video again at any time by clicking on the box at the bottom right near the hint area.
  • A. Click on the boy ghost and read through the dialogue. You may skip this portion if you wish by clicking at the top right corner of the game screen.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the green tool box in front of the house. Watch the mini video that shows the missing little girl “Monica” through the window and then she disappears. Click on the green box and it will move down to the bottom right of the game screen and this is where you will be able to watch films when you find film reels in the game. Click on the green box any time to watch films or to see the medals you have collected in the game. The films will reveal bits of the story plot to you and here you will be given a brief tutorial on how to use hints in the game.
  • Once the box is gone click on the roll of tape and it will move into your inventory.
  • B. Click on the sign with the crow on it and when the panel opens up click on the hook to the left of the paper and it will add to your inventory. Next, click on the paper and read it and it will add to your diary for future referral.
  • C. Click on the trunk of the car to open it. Next click on the bottle of glue and add to your inventory. Click on the picture and it will add to your diary information.
  • D. Click on the panel to zoom in. Here you will see a broken shovel. Click on the glue in your in your inventory and use it on the broken handle. Next take the hook from your inventory and place it. Finally, take the tape from your inventory and use it to secure the hook. This will add back into your inventory as a long pole. Note – Your tape will be used again in another area so it will add back into your inventory.
  • E. Click on the dog house to open a panel with a closer look. Note the snake. Use the long pole from inventory to take the key from the snake. The long pole will be used again in a future scene so it will add back to your inventory. The key is now also in your inventory.
  • F. Click on the door for a closer look. When the panel opens use the key in your inventory and place it in the lock. Click on it once to turn the key. Once the door opens you can now go inside.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the open door and you will see a brief scene of the little girl and a man. The door will slam shut and it is locked so you will have to find a way to open it.
  • B. Click on the puppet like man standing at the counter and when the panel opens use your long pole to cut the rope tangled in the fan and he will fall to the ground. Once he falls a new area will open you can click on where he is on the floor. You can click on the register but you can’t do anything yet so exit out.
  • C. Click on the puppet on floor and when panel opens take the two colored buttons into inventory.
  • D. Click on the phone and read the text. Note the numbers in the center of the phone which are “15637”
  • E. Click on the cash register to trigger a mini game. You will need to place both colored buttons into the puzzle to trigger it. Next you will need to click on the numbers in the correct pattern so they are all lit up with a number on them. To solve the puzzle click on the keys in this order - Yellow, light blue, dark green, red, and purple. Once finished collect the jack handle and the half page into inventory.
  • F. Click on the tall bureau to the right with the note attached. When the panel opens you will see only half a note. Take tape from your inventory and place it on the half page first. Next, take the second half of the note and add it. When it tapes together click on it and add to your inventory. Next click on the razor in the wood and add to your inventory.
  • G. Click on the dresser to the far left of scene. Take the razor from inventory and use it twice to cut the ropes away. When the drawer opens click on the jack and add it to your inventory.
  • H. Click on the bottom of the bureau near the feet. Take your jack from inventory and place the jack handle and click on it to move it. The bureau will fall over and knock over the phone which will bust the door open. You can now exit this location.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the ghost dog and watch the dog run away.
  • B. Click on the wall at far right and take the paper into diary.
  • C. Click on the door of car to the far left and when panel opens take the brick from inventory and use it to break the window. Click on the instructions on the seat and add them to your diary for future information. Click on the button at the top left of scene to open the hood. Exit the scene.
  • D. Click on the white car in the rear of scene. Take the stool into inventory. You will have to come back later.
  • E. Once the hood is up on the first car, click on the radiator cap and place in your inventory.
  • F. Click on the area at the far left where you can see a bus.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the bulletin board on the side of the bus and take the paper into diary information. The other items won’t be available until you get hot water later on. Exit the scene.
  • B. Click on the bus door and enter next scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the bucket and place in your inventory.
  • B. Click on the radio and press the buttons as shown in the image above then click on the button to the right and collect the doorbell button into your inventory.
  • C. Take the stool in center of scene into inventory.
  • D. Click on the ghost and watch mini film.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the water at the far end of scene.
  • Take the bucket from inventory and add to the water when the panel opens up. This will return to your inventory as a bucket of water.
  • Exit one scene back to the old car on the left with hood open.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the bucket of water and add to the radiator.
  • B. Take the radiator cap from inventory and place it on radiator.
  • Click on the door at far left of scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. When panel opens take the doorbell from inventory and place it on wiring to repair it.
  • Ring the doorbell and when it opens and proceed to the new scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the old man and read the dialogue. You will need to come back to him later.
  • B. Click on the cabinet at back left of scene to zoom in. Click again to collect the paper on the outside of the cabinet which will add to your diary. Click again to open the cabinet and collect the postcard pieces into inventory and the click on the “Nippers” or clippers and place into your inventory.
  • C. Click on the drawer next to old man. When it opens click on the paper to trigger a mini game.
  • Mini Game – Click on the torn pieces on the outer perimeter and place them on the white area to reconstruct the postcard. When a piece is correctly placed it will lock into place. The solution is shown above. Click on the card after it flips around and add the information to diary.
  • Exit the room and head back to the bus and go inside.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the center hatch on the floor for a closer view.
  • Take the “Nippers” or clippers from inventory and use it on the wire to cut it away and click on panel to open it.
  • Take the family photograph into inventory.
  • Take the tire iron into inventory.
  • B. Click on the seat with the fish for a closer view. Again, use the “Nippers” or wire cutters to clip the wire away. Take the fish into your inventory.
  • Leave the bus and return to the old man sitting in the chair.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the family photograph from inventory and give it to the old man. Read the dialogue that is triggered. He will ask for something to drink. You will get this for him later.
  • B. The information from the image will be entered into your diary. Click on the paperclip on the edge of photograph and add it to your inventory.
  • Return to the old car with the cat on it. (Near bus)

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the fish from inventory and place it in the food dish. The cat will eat it and leave the car.
  • B. Take the paper clip from inventory and use it to pick the trunk lock then click on the trunk to open it.
  • C. Once the panel zooms in to the trunk take the “bottle with drink” into inventory as well as the rope and the film reel.
  • D. Click on the green box and place the new film reel on the projector and press the red switch. Watch the military footage brought over by Jack Penum from the war.
  • Return to the room with the old man.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the empty glass on the desk and take the wine from inventory and fill the glass. It will add back to your inventory as a glass of wine.
  • B. Give the glass of wine to the old man and he will drink it. He will soon fall asleep and drop his scissors on the floor next to him.
  • C. Take the scissors into your inventory.
  • D. Use the scissors in your inventory to cut the rope holding up the iron over the desk. When the iron falls on the desk click on it to zoom into the panel.
  • E. Click on the iron and take it into your inventory.
  • F. Click on the box to open it then take the car keys and the medal into your inventory.
  • Click on the green box at bottom right and place the medal in the box.
  • Exit the room to main scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the rope in center of road and when panel opens hook the rope from inventory to the hook.
  • B. Click on the door of the car to the far left to open it.
  • C. Take the car key from inventory and place it in the ignition. Click on it to turn the key.
  • D. Click on the wires hanging out to trigger a mini game puzzle.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Mini Game – The goal of the game is to move the little colored squares known as “Jumpers” into the locations shown in the solution above.
  • Click on the color switch at far right to activate the color you want control of. You will have to do one color at a time and it is best to start with yellow and work right to left.
  • Use the arrows at the top right to move the jumpers. Note that they move together and you must figure out how to get them both in the correct locations. You may have to move a different color jumper into a spot to block or force another jumper into the correct space.
  • Work with each color until you get the jumpers in the location shown above.
  • Once you complete the puzzle you have started the car.
  • Important – Place the iron from your inventory on the gas pedal of the car and it will pull the other car out of the way clearing the path to the hotel.
  • Click on the new location straight ahead.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the ghost figure at center of stairway to activate storyline text.
  • B. Click on the bush for a closer view.
  • C. Take the heating element and the nail puller into your inventory.
  • D. Click on the stairs to walk up them and they will crumble. You will now need to find items to fix the stairs.
  • Go back to the room with the old man.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the heating pad near the teapot at far left of scene to zoom in.
  • B. Take the heating element from inventory and place on the pad.
  • C. Take the tea kettle and place on the heating element.
  • Click the switch to turn it on.
  • Steam will begin to rise until it hits the ceiling and debris will fall to the ground. Click on the ceiling and the ground to read the text.
  • Take the steaming kettle of water into your inventory.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the blue green stool from inventory and place on the floor as shown in image above.
  • B. Take the second stool from inventory and place on top of the blue green stool.
  • C. Click on the ceiling where the steam opened it up and take the hammer into your inventory.
  • Exit the room and return to the bus location.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the bulletin board on the side of the bus for a closer view.
  • B. Take the steaming kettle of water and hold it over the board to melt the black tar off.
  • C. Take the nail puller from inventory and use it to gather the nails along the left side of the board.
  • D. Click on the center of the bulletin board to collect boards into inventory.
  • Return to the broken stairs and click on them to zoom in.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the boards from inventory and place over the large hole.
  • B. Take the nails from inventory and place them on the boards.
  • C. Use the hammer to nail the nails in place. You will need to do this twice to repair all of them.
  • As soon as the stairs are repaired the path is clear to the next location.
  • Proceed up the stairs then take an immediate left toward the gazebo.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the handkerchief and take into your inventory. Click on the initials carved into the seat to take into your diary information.
  • B. Click on the gate handle to zoom in then click on the chains until they are all pulled away. Place the gate handle into your inventory.
  • C. Click on the viewer to trigger a mini game puzzle.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Mini Game – In this mini game the solution is shown in the image above.
  • Your goal is to get all of the numbers in the outer ring to match the number pattern of the inner ring.
  • The key to this puzzle is to focus on the order of the numbers in the inner ring.
  • Use the upper set of arrows to switch out numbers. Line up a number then click on an arrow to take it out of the ring and then hit the opposite arrow to place it back on the ring.
  • Use the lower arrows to move the outer ring.
  • Once you have all the numbers matching as in the image above the focus on the viewer will work and you will have a small video to watch.
  • A. After film take the nut at the bottom of viewer into your inventory.
  • Back out of the area once then head to the right of the gate scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the well for a closer view. Take the bucket into inventory and when the well handle breaks off take it into inventory as well.
  • B. Click on the bulletin board at lower left corner to zoom in. Take the paper in the center and read it for diary information. Take the square key into inventory.
  • C. Click on the skeleton in front of the barn door. Take your scissors from inventory and use them on the chains. This will open the door.
  • Enter the old barn location.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the jacket in the far left back wall. Click on the lapel to open area then take the cross key into inventory.
  • B. Click on the projector table to get a closer view. Take the dirty putty knife and the wrench into your inventory.
  • Exit back to the motel gate area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the cement vase next to gate. It is full of clean water.
  • B. Take the handkerchief from inventory and add it to the water and it will add back to inventory as a wet handkerchief.
  • C. Take the dirty putty knife from inventory and dip it in the water. It will add back to your inventory as a clean putty knife.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the gate to get a closer view.
  • B. Take the gate handle and place it on the empty side.
  • C. Take the nut from inventory and add to the bottom of handle.
  • D. Use the wrench from inventory to tighten the handle.
  • The gate will now unlock and you have access to the outside of the motel.
  • Go inside the gated area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the boy and watch the storyline film.
  • B. Click on the window at far right for a closer look.
  • C. Take the coin and add to inventory.
  • D. Take the wet handkerchief form inventory and use on the window. Watch the short video.
  • E. Click on the branches until they disappear and then take the film into inventory.
  • You may play this video on the projector in the green box at this time if you wish.
  • Exit to the left of the motel to go to the back scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the ghost dog when he runs out. He will destroy the little girl’s stuffed bear then run away.
  • B. Click on this door and when the panel opens you wills see the lock is broken and you will need to find parts to repair it.
  • Take the wooden well handle from inventory and add to the plunger on the ground. This will add to your inventory as a plunger.
  • C. Click on the door at the top of the stairs. This will trigger a mini game but you can’t play it yet as you need a part first. Collect the rope at the top left of the doorway to inventory
  • D. You will see a ghost in the window and then he will disappear. Take the storage key on the ledge into your inventory.
  • Take your clean putty knife from inventory and use it four times on each corner to remove the molding. You should see all wood disappear. Take the plunger from inventory and use it on the glass.
  • Once the glass is removed this is now and entrance to the motel.
  • Go through the window to the kitchen.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the skeleton in center of scene. Take the mincer handle at bottom left of scene into your inventory. You will come back to this scene later.
  • B. Click on the sink to zoom in and take the small fish hook on the sink into inventory.
  • C. Click on the floor area near the drawers. Take the can of kerosene into your inventory.
  • D. Click on the far door to open panel and use the storage room key to enter. You may now enter this scene.
  • Go inside storage room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the pantry door to far right and when it zooms in click on the latch which will immediately break and fall to the floor. Click on the latch and take it into inventory. Also collect the box of matches at the top right.
  • B. Open the first aid kit on the wall. Take the bottle of ammonia into your inventory.
  • C. Click on the refrigerator door to open it. Take the roll of toilet paper into your inventory.
  • D. Click on the top left shelf to open panel. There is a screwdriver stuck in the shelf. Take the wincer handle from inventory and place it to build a screwdriver. This screwdriver is now added to your inventory.
  • The cabinet in the center of the scene needs items to repair it so you will come back here again.
  • Exit to kitchen.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the door to far left to open panel. Use the screwdriver in your inventory to pry the door open.
  • Enter through the door.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the professor and he will be attacked and thrown through the floor at basement level.
  • B. Take the metal rod on the floor into your inventory.
  • C. Click on the book on the table. When panel opens read paper and add it to diary information. Take the rag into inventory.
  • D. Click on the juke box to zoom in.
  • Take the coin from inventory and place in the slot and pull the handle. Watch the machine short out.
  • Take your screwdriver from inventory and use it in four spots to unscrew the screws and remove the panel. The screws are now in your inventory.
  • Take the fuse that is revealed into inventory.
  • Exit back into the kitchen.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the stove to zoom in. Take the matches from inventory and light the front left burner.
  • B. Take the rag from inventory and add it to the poker hanging on the wall and it adds to inventory as “Poker with rag”.
  • C. Take the poker with rag and place over the flame. It will now enter back into your inventory as hot poker.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the skeleton in center of kitchen and use the hot poker from you inventory to burn the strings holding him up.
  • He will now fall to the ground which is a new active area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the skeleton to zoom into the panel.
  • B. The medal has fallen off of the skeleton’s hat. Click on it and add to your inventory. It is also in your green box at bottom right of screen.
  • Return to the storage room and click on the center cabinet.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click to zoom into lock on center cabinet and take the screws and screwdriver from inventory and repair the lock. Click to open the cabinet.
  • B. Take the toilet paper from inventory and place it on the wooden rod in the cabinet.
  • C. Take the kerosene and add to the toilet paper.
  • You now have a torch added to your inventory.
  • Exit to the back of the motel.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the door to the far right of the scene to zoom in to the lock area.
  • B. Take the latch from inventory and place it in the lock to repair it.
  • The door is now open and you can now enter the basement of the motel.
  • Enter basement.

 Penumbra Motel

  • You find the Professor unconscious on the basement floor. Click on him to zoom into panel.
  • A. Take the ammonia from inventory and use to wake up the professor. Watch the brief video.
  • Take the medal the Professor gives you into your inventory.
  • B. Click on the water heater tank at center of room. When the panel opens take the red valve into your inventory.
  • C. You will need to place the rope on the door and connect it to the tank at the left side of room. Take the rope from inventory and click on the door twice and you will see it move into place.
  • D. Click on the rope in inventory a third time then on the wheel at the top of the tank and the rope will be anchored to the door and attached to tank.
  • Click on the tank to zoom in.
  • E. Take the metal rod from inventory and place it in the tank. This will cause the tank to swing out and pull the barricade off of the door. You can now enter this room.
  • Click on the large chest that the tank was on top of to zoom in.
  • F. Click on the top of the chest to open it. Take the fuse inside the chest and add to your inventory.
  • Go inside the generator room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the torch from inventory and place it on the metal bars on the wall. Take the matches from inventory and light the torch. You now have light to work by.
  • B. Click on the panel to the left of the torch to activate a mini game.
  • Mini Game – Take the fuses listed as numbers 1 and 2 and place them on each side of the board to activate the mini game puzzle board.
  • The solution to the puzzle is shown in image above. Start in the upper left hand corner with the blue square tile and place a blue square tile next to it.
  • Tiles can match in either color or shape.
  • You will have to place the tiles using process of elimination until they are all placed on the grid. Once the puzzle is completed power is restored to the generator and you must now turn it on.
  • C. Click on the switch box to far left to zoom in and take the handle from inventory and place it in the empty slot. Click to turn the generator on.
  • Exit back into the basement area then exit the basement and go around to the front of the motel.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the front door to trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • B. Place the three medals from your inventory onto the puzzle board to place them and activate the puzzle.
  • Mini Game – The goal is to place the gems so that the gems match the colors of the lines connecting them.
  • You can exchange gems at any line area by clicking on a gem to trade places with it.
  • You can rotate the gems by clicking on any of the medals.
  • It is best to focus on one medal at a time figuring out which colored gems need to go where and rotating the medal until they are placed.
  • When a gem and line match the line will light up.
  • When all the lines are lit up you have successfully completed the puzzle.
  • The solution is shown in the image above.
  • The front door is now open and you can go inside the main lobby of the motel.

Chapter Two

 Penumbra Motel

  • You are now inside the motel lobby and you will see the ghost dog walk into the room and enter the body of Frank Penum after which he will turn into a skeleton in the scene.
  • A. Click on the trophy on the counter and take into your inventory.
  • B. Click on the skeleton to zoom in. Take the brass horn into your inventory.
  • C. Click on the radio case at back of room to zoom in.
  • 1. Click on the knob at the left side twice to turn on the power.
  • 2. Take the cap from the right side and add to your inventory.
  • D. Click on the payphone to zoom in.
  • 1. Click on the phone to take it off the hook then hang it back up by clicking on it a second time. This will open a small panel at the bottom of the phone.
  • 2. Take the key and add to your inventory.
  • E. Click on the book on the counter to zoom in and take the lens at far right into your inventory.
  • Click on the bell a couple of times to ring it.
  • Click on the book to open it and trigger a mini game.
  • Once book is open click on the puzzle pieces to start the game.
  • Mini Game – Here you are to assemble the pieces of paper until the letter is restored.
  • If you place a piece correctly it will lock into place.
  • The solution is shown circled in pink in image above.
  • Click on the reassembled letter and add it to your diary information. Note the number “8” at the bottom of the letter.
  • F. Click on the key panel on the wall behind the counter to zoom into a mini game.
  • Take the key from inventory and add it to the other keys to activate the game. This key is shown circled in image above and had the roman number 1 at the bottom.
  • Mini Game - Place the ten keys in the correct locations by matching the indentation in the background correctly.
  • The solution is shown above circled in yellow.
  • Once all the keys are placed a panel opens that requires a four digit code. The first digit which is a “2” is given to you. You will need to come back later to open this safe.
  • G. Click on the axe and read the text at top of screen.
  • The stairway is now activated and you can go upstairs.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the goblet on the table and add to your inventory.
  • B. Click on the book to open then read the letter and add it to your inventory.
  • C. Click on the skeleton in the back of the room and take the glass part into your inventory.
  • D. Click on the cabinet at far right to trigger a mini game.
  • Take the glass part from inventory and add it to the puzzle to activate it.
  • Mini Game – The object of this puzzle is to move the pieces so that no two colors are touching.
  • When the pieces are placed correctly the lines between them will turn green and if they are incorrect the lines will turn red.
  • The solution is shown circled in pink above.
  • Once you complete the puzzle the panel will open. Take the film into your inventory.
  • E. Click on the camera’s back panel and the camera will fall over.
  • Take the cap from inventory and use it on the joint to stabilize the camera.
  • Click on the back panel again to open it and take the film from inventory and place it in the camera.
  • Close the panel then click on the handle at the lower right to take an image.
  • When the image comes out the back of the camera add it to the diary information. (Take note of the number “6” hidden in the image.)
  • A bat will fly across the room and knock the room key out of the light fixture on to the floor.
  • F. Pick up the room key near the coffee table and add to inventory.
  • G. Use the motel key you just picked up on the door at the back of the scene.
  • Enter the next room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the desk and zoom into the scene.
  • B. Take the solvent jar, plane propeller, and the picture of the man in the background into your inventory and/or diary.
  • C. Click on the fishing poles to zoom into the scene and collect the goblet into inventory.
  • Take the fish hook from inventory and add it to the pole. A fishing pole will be added back into your inventory.
  • D. Click on the cabinet to zoom in. Here you will need to place the trophies and goblets in your inventory into the bookcase in the same order Mr. Penum used to keep them stored which is shown in the picture in your diary.
  • The solution is shown in the image above circled in red. Once you place all items the bottom panel will open up. Collect the table part and the paper showing the solution to the lock into your diary. You can refer to this to solve the next mini game puzzle.
  • E. Click on the side of the desk to access the mini game puzzle.
  • Take the table part from your inventory and add it to the table to activate the mini game.
  • Mini Game – The object here is to click on the arrows surrounding the table causing the images to change to the same size and match the colors in the diary document.
  • The solution is shown in the image above circled in bright blue.
  • The arrows are numbered clockwise from 1 to 12 and you are to push the buttons in this order to solve the puzzle – 1, 3, 2, 11, 2, 1, 1, and 5.
  • Once you complete the puzzle the panel will open up. Take the safe handle and the film reel into your inventory.
  • You may now play the film reel in the green inventory box below to continue the storyline.
  • Exit back to the lobby of the motel.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Click on the safe panel behind the counter to zoom in.
  • A. Take the safe handle from inventory and put in place.
  • B. Using all the diary clues you will see the code is “2-4-8-6” Use the arrows along top or bottom to put these numbers in the lock.
  • Once you unlock the panel the safe will open. Take the key tags into your inventory.
  • Click on the safe door to close it and then collect all of the keys on the back of the door.
  • C. Mini Game – They keys are back in their earlier positions but now you are to place the correct key tags on them.
  • The solution is shown above. The best way to solve this puzzle is to look at the bottom of the key and the Roman numeral you calculate is the number of the key tag you should place there.
  • Once you complete all the key tags you will have earned a bunch of keys into your inventory.
  • You can now access several motel rooms with your keys.
  • Exit the motel and return to the area outside the old barn near the well.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the steam column at far right corner to zoom in.
  • B. Take the valve handle from inventory and place at top.
  • C. Pull the cord up and take the triangle key into your inventory.
  • Return to the motel room area clicking once to the right.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Enter the room at the bottom right using your keys from inventory.
  • A. Click on the desk to zoom into the panel.
  • B. Take the pipe into your inventory.
  • Click on the book to see you need a special kind of lock to open it.
  • Click on the clock face. You will need a screwdriver to open it.
  • There are several items to complete in this room but this is all you can do at this time.
  • Exit this room and go up the stairs. Use your key to open the center room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the mirror to zoom in on it and you will see a short video. When the video is finished the mirror will break.
  • B. Take the key part and add to your inventory.
  • Click on the book on the dresser to open it. The pages are blank but you need to find a way to read impressions on the paper so you will come back to his scene later.
  • C. Go into the bathroom.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the bathroom cabinet to zoom in and open it.
  • Take the bar of soap and add to inventory. The soap has something embedded in it.
  • Take the brush from the jar and add to inventory.
  • B. Click on the sick to zoom in and place the soap inside it. Click on the faucet handle and turn on the water.
  • The soap will melt and the key part item will be added to your inventory.
  • Go back into the bedroom area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the broken mirror to zoom in.
  • B. Take the pipe from inventory and spill the ashes on the pages of the book.
  • Take the brush from inventory and use it to spread the ashes around.
  • Now that you can read the page place it in your diary information.
  • C. Click on the bureau and a ball of yarn with needles will fall out. You will need to come back to this scene later to get the needles out.
  • Exit to the outside of rooms.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the grate to zoom in.
  • B. Use your fishing pole from inventory to pry the cigar case out and place it in your inventory.
  • C. Click on the table next to the skeleton to zoom in.
  • Click on the ring and zoom in to it. Take note of the initial and add to diary information.
  • Also take note of diagram on table you will need one more part to complete it.
  • Go back into the motel room at the bottom right of scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the dresser to zoom in to scene.
  • B. Take the key part from inventory and add to the lock area of book.
  • Take the metal swan from inventory and add to the top of the lock. The book can now be opened.
  • When the book opens take the watch into inventory.
  • You will need to return here again later.
  • Exit to the table outside the motel rooms.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the table and zoom in.
  • Following the instructions on the diagram place the cigar case on the table.
  • Take the lighter and place along the left side of the cigar case.
  • Place the watch face into the center hole.
  • When the case opens take the box key into your inventory.
  • Return to the motel room at the bottom right.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the pillow to reveal a box and zoom in.
  • B. Take the box key from inventory and use it to open the box.
  • C. Take the screwdriver and the medal into inventory.
  • The medal is also found in your green box inventory.
  • Return to the desk at other side of room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the desk to zoom in and then on the clock to zoom in on clock face.
  • Take the screwdriver from inventory and remove the gears adding them to your inventory.
  • Exit and click on the door to the right to trigger a mini game puzzle.

 Penumbra Motel

  • This is the same as the earlier puzzle with the exception that you now have one extra medal to work with.
  • Take the four medals from inventory and add them on to the puzzle to activate it.
  • Mini Game – The goal is to place the gems so that the gems match the colors of the lines connecting them.
  • You can exchange gems at any line area by clicking on a gem to trade places with it.
  • You can rotate the gems by clicking on any of the medals.
  • It is best to focus on one medal at a time figuring out which colored gems need to go where and rotating the medal until they are placed.
  • When a gem and line match the line will light up.
  • When all the lines are lit up you have successfully completed the puzzle.
  • The solution is shown in the image above.
  • When you complete this puzzle you will have access to this room.

Chapter Three

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the knife from the bed foot board and add to your inventory.
  • B. Click on the power switch and remove the paper and add to your diary information. Note the patterns on the diagram. You need a chain to turn on the power so you will need to return here after you find it.
  • C. Click on the desk to zoom into the panel. Watch as the typewriter types out a letter. When the paper appears, click on it and take it into your inventory.
  • Click on the dried up glue bottle. Take the solvent from your inventory and use it on the bottle.
  • Take the brush from your inventory and use it to gather up the restored glue.
  • You now have a brush with glue in your inventory.
  • Note the handle is missing on the drawer. You will have to return when you find it.
  • D. Click on the airplane hanging from ceiling. Take the brush with glue and paint the front of the airplane and then take the propeller from inventory and place it on the plane.
  • Once you repair the plane it will fly around the room and out the window dropping a corkscrew to the floor.
  • E. Take the corkscrew into your inventory.
  • F. Click on the table at far left of scene. Use the corkscrew from inventory to open the bottle.
  • Click to pour the chain out of the bottle and take the chain into inventory.
  • G. Click on the large picture at far left wall to trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game – Here you are to arrange the tiles based on the game “Rock, Paper, Scissors” using the diagram you stored in your diary earlier.
  • Click on a tile to exchange it with another. A tile does not have to be directly next to another tile to exchange places with it.
  • Once the puzzle is complete you can restore power to the switch box once you have all parts needed.
  • The solution is shown above circled in orange.
  • B. (2) Return to the power box and add the chain from your inventory.
  • Click on the switch to start the power.
  • A ladder will come down from the ceiling revealing the attic location.
  • Go upstairs to the attic.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the box in the center of the room to zoom and then take the handle and put it in your inventory.
  • B. Click on the map to zoom in.
  • Click on the paper and read the instructions about the magnet.
  • Drag the nail to the magnet and take the magnet into inventory.
  • C. Click on the bureau to examine the lock. You will need to come back here once you figure out the combination.
  • Return to the room below.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the desk to zoom in.
  • Take the handle from inventory and place it on the drawer and click to open it.
  • Take the bullet from drawer into inventory.
  • Exit and click on the chest with the tank on it sitting next to the desk.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the chest to zoom in.
  • B. Click on the back panel to open it and place the gears from your inventory into the opening.
  • C. Click on the front round panel to open it and place the bullet from inventory inside.
  • The tank will start to fire and hit the wall.
  • Click on the area that is exposed.

  • A. Click on the exposed area on the wall.
  • Note the numbers that are exposed – “2754”
  • Go back upstairs to the attic.

  • D. Take the weight into your inventory.

  • Play the film reel to continue with storyline.
  • Exit the room.

  • A. Click on the professor and watch the brief video.
  • Return to the motel room at top center.

  • A. Click on the drawers of hutch cabinet at far right of room.
  • B. Take the magnet from your inventory and use it once to take out the needle which is placed into your inventory.
  • Use the magnet a second time to remove the hook and place it into your inventory.
  • Exit and return to the motel room at the bottom right.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the closet to open the door .
  • Take the hook from inventory and use it on the scarf to make thread which is added to your inventory.
  • Exit and return to the old farm and go inside.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the safe at the far left of the room.
  • B. Place the cross, triangle, and square keys into the slots and open the safe.
  • C. Remove the extension cord and place into your inventory.
  • Proceed to the back wall and click on it to zoom in.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the knife from inventory and use it to pin up the canvas.
  • B. Take the thread from inventory and place on canvas.
  • C. Take the needle from inventory and place on canvas.
  • Now a mini game has been triggered.
  • Mini Game – Your objective is to sew together the pieces of canvas using the needle and thread.
  • Click on each piece on the floor and place it where it belongs.
  • If you are correct you will see the needle and thread stitch it into place.
  • You now have a projector screen on the wall.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the projector table to zoom in.
  • B. Take the lens from inventory and place on projector.
  • C. Take the extension cord from inventory and plug into projector.
  • D. Take the projector cord and extension cord and plug them into each other.
  • Click on the film cutting tray to the far left of table to trigger a mini game.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Mini Game – Here you will have to take all five film canisters and place them on the puzzle to activate it.
  • Filmstrips will add to the machine as you load reels.
  • The objective is to press the arrows on each side moving the frames until only the black and white ones are in the center.
  • Each button is labeled 1 through 10 and this is the sequence you should press the arrows to align the film correctly.
  • Solution - 10 (x 3), 8, 3 (x4), 2 (x2), 1 (x5), and 6.
  • A. Once you have all the black and white frames in the center turn the handle to cut the film
  • You now have glued film in your inventory.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the glued film from your inventory and place it on the projector.
  • B. Click the on button to begin the film.
  • After you watch the film it will burn away revealing a safe.
  • Click on the safe to zoom in.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the key from inventory and use it on the safe.
  • Take the detail piece into your inventory.
  • Return to the basement in the motel.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the door to zoom in.
  • Use the detail on the door lock and click on the handle.
  • You may now enter the laundry room.

  • A. Click on the laundry at far left of scene to zoom in.
  • The sheets are marked 1, 2, and 3 in image above.
  • Click on sheet 1 and add it to sheet 2, then add sheet 3 to the bottom .
  • You now have tied sheets in your inventory.
  • B. Take the weight from your inventory and place in the washing machine. In a moment it will fly out and hit the mannequin in the room knocking his leg off and exposing a lock part.
  • C. Take the lock part into inventory.
  • Exit the motel and go back to the farm area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the tied sheets from inventory and place them down the well.
  • You can now go down into the well.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the whip and take into inventory.
  • B. Take the bracket and add to inventory.
  • C. Click on the skeleton and the scene will zoom in.
  • D. Take the amulet from around his neck into inventory and click on the box to trigger a mini game.
  • Mini Game – In this game you will need to click on the fingers of the skeleton in the right order to open the locked box.
  • E. Solution is shown in image above. Click on the fingers in the order shown. 1. Middle finger, 2. Little finger, 3. Pointing finger, 4, ring finger, and 5. Thumb.
  • When the box opens take the two gears into your inventory.
  • Click on the wrist section of the hand and take it into your inventory.
  • F. Take the bracket from inventory and place it between the missing two on the wall.
  • You can now exit out of the well.
  • Return to the backyard of the motel.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the back fence to zoom in on a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game – Here you are to zoom in on sections of the puzzle and click to rotate them. You can move the cursor to click one, two or three at a time and anything you highlight will rotate.
  • Solution – Place your cursor over the outlined area then click the number of times shown below.
  • 1. Red – Click one time.
  • 2. Yellow – Click one time.
  • 3. Green – Click two times.
  • 4. White – Click two times.
  • 5. Light blue – Click three times.
  • The puzzle should look like the solution shown.
  • The fence will now unlock and you may proceed to the next area.

  • A. Click on the area in the grass to the lower right and when panel opens collect the bottle into your inventory.
  • B. Click on the young woman and follow her to the Penrum mansion.

Chapter Four

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the mailbox to zoom in and open it.
  • Take the slide 10 and place it in inventory.
  • Take the paper read it and add to diary information.
  • B. Click on the open area of the gate and you will need something to make more room to fit through. Take your whip from inventory and use it on the two bars at far right.
  • C. When the bars area pulled a finial will fall to the ground. Take the finial into your inventory.
  • Enter through the hole in the gate.

 Penumbra Motel

  • You are now in front of the mansion.
  • Note the ghost dog walking around and the note that fire will make him leave.
  • A. Click on the tricycle and take the rag into inventory.
  • Exit to the far right of the scene.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the bushes twice to move the leaves and take the rocket head into your inventory.
  • B. Take the fire extinguisher into inventory.
  • C. Take the wire on side of house into inventory.
  • D. Proceed to the right of the house.

 Penumbra Motel

  • When you enter the scene click on the tractor for a closer view.
  • A. Take the gas cap off.
  • B. Take the hose from inventory and add to gas tank.
  • C. Take the bottle from inventory and place at bottom of hose. This will syphon off the gass into the bottle. Now you have a bottle of gas in your inventory.
  • D. Click on the door handle and you will see it is jammed. Place the finial from inventory into the handle and click to pull this will release the door.
  • E. Take the screwdriver from ignition into inventory.
  • Go into the garage.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the barrel to the right of scene to zoom in. Take the can of oil into inventory and read the letter adding it to your diary information.
  • B. Take the bottle of gas from inventory and place on the barrel.
  • C. Take the rag and place in the glass.
  • D. Take the matches and light the rag.
  • You now have an explosive in your inventory.
  • E. Click on the lawnmower to zoom in to a panel. Use the screwdriver to remove screws and when panel opens up take the chain into inventory.
  • Exit out once.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the water pump to zoom into to the scene.
  • B. Pour the can of oil over the lever.
  • Take the screw driver and pull off the lever. Take the lever into your inventory.
  • Exit to the front of the house.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the explosive from inventory and click on the dog to throw it at him.
  • B. When the lawn catches on fire take your fire extinguisher from inventory and use it on the fire.
  • Exit to the left of the house.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the sandbox for a closer look at the scene.
  • Take the shovel and place in your inventory.
  • B. Take the shovel and use it to dig out the toy car. This may take a few clicks.
  • Add the toy car to inventory.
  • Turn to the tree house

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the center of the tree to trigger a close up panel.
  • Use the screwdriver from inventory to move the bark out of the way. This takes about three clicks.
  • B. Place the wind up key into inventory.
  • Click on the ladder above to enter tree house.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Click on the tree house doors to open them.
  • A. Click on the boy puppet at far left. Remove the mirror from his face and place into inventory.
  • B. Click on the table to zoom in and then take slide eight into inventory and click on the paper to add information to inventory.
  • Click on the rocket part and you will see you need an explosive so you will have to return to this location again when you have it.
  • Return to the front of the house.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the front porch for closer view.
  • B. When the door opens a hook will fly to the ground. Take the hook into your inventory.
  • C. Head to the right of the house and go back to the garage area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the box under the pulley to zoom into the scene.
  • B. Take the hook from inventory and place it on the rope. When the box lifts the crank will break and items will fall out.
  • C. Take the gear that has fallen out on the ground into your inventory.
  • Go back once twice to the garage door area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the control panel at the far left of the garage to open the panel.
  • B. Place the gear and the chain into the mechanism and shut the door.
  • C. Place the center button and the garage door will open.
  • Go inside the garage.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the large pile of items at the back right corner of the room. You will need to click on this pile a few times removing things until you gather the water pipes into your inventory.
  • B. Click on the table at the far left to zoom in.
  • Take the brass horn from inventory and place on the box to trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game – Here you are to fit all of the instruments on the top of the box in a way that they will not touch.
  • When you place an item correctly it will highlight in green and incorrect placements highlight in red.
  • Once you place all items the box will open. Take the bracelet into your inventory.
  • C. Click on the skeleton in the center of the room to zoom into the scene.
  • D. Click once more to zoom into his hand. Take the bracelet from inventory and place it at the end of the arm. Next, take the skeleton hand and place on the bracelet.
  • The skeleton will begin to purposefully move.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Place the toy car in the skeletons hands.
  • B. Place the wind up key from inventory on to the car.
  • The skeleton will shake vigorously.
  • C. Take the medal that falls out of his eye and place in your inventory.
  • Go back to the front of the house and click on the front door to trigger a mini game.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Click on the door then on the plasma door to trigger game.
  • Place the five medals from your inventory onto the puzzle board to activate the puzzle.
  • Mini Game – The goal is to place the gems so that the gems match the colors of the lines connecting them.
  • You can exchange gems at any line area by clicking on a gem to trade places with it.
  • You can rotate the gems by clicking on any of the medals.
  • It is best to focus on one medal at a time figuring out which colored gems need to go where and rotating the medal until they are placed.
  • When a gem and line match the line will light up.
  • When all the lines are lit up you have successfully completed the puzzle.

  • The front door is now open and you can go inside the mansion.

  • A. Click on the ghost of the young woman and watch video to continue storyline.
  • B. Take the cane from the sofa on right into your inventory.
  • All other things you will do in this room later.
  • C. Exit to the left into the hallway.
  • Follow the hallway to the far end and enter the bathroom.

  • A. Click on the panel under the closet to trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game – The goal here is to place the pipes in the grid to turn the water back on.
  • The gold caps can be placed on the ends of some pipes. Make sure you have the correct cap on the pipe it matches.
  • You can rotate the pipe by putting it somewhere on the grid and right clicking your mouse. You will have to do this many times in this puzzle.
  • All pieces are used. Use the ones in place to guide you.
  • The solution to the puzzle is shown in the image above.
  • B. Click on the bathtub to zoom in to the scene.
  • C. Take the plug along the tub wall out first.
  • D. Take the cork floating in the water and pull it out to drain all of the water out.
  • E. Take the door handle into your inventory that is at the bottom of the tub.
  • Exit to the tree house again.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the cane from you inventory and use it on the dangling ladder to bring it down.
  • Once it hits the ground add it to your inventory.
  • Return to the living room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the ladder from inventory and place on the area under the light fixture.
  • B. Take the binoculars into your inventory.
  • Exit into the hallway
  • Take the door handle from inventory and use it on the door in the center or the hall next to bathroom.
  • Enter room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the skeleton next to mirror to zoom in.
  • Click on box you find it has a hard wax seal on it.
  • B. Take the lamp and adjust it upward two clicks.
  • C. Take the binoculars from inventory and place on the books.
  • D. Take the mirror from inventory and place over between to direct light to wax on box.
  • E. When the wax melts open the box take the rocket explosive and the cabinet part into inventory.
  • F. Click on the cabinet to zoom into panel. Place the cabinet part in the missing area on the right as shown.
  • A secret room will be revealed.
  • First, return to the tree house and go inside.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the rocket explosive and place in rocket bottom half.
  • B. Take the top half and assemble rocket.
  • Take the completed rocket into your inventory.
  • Go back to bedroom and enter the secret room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the rocket from inventory and place under the large planet on desk.
  • B. Take matches from inventory and light the rocket fuse.
  • When the rocket goes off it will knock the planet down. Take the planet into your inventory.
  • Return to the living room area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the door to the far right when the panel opens place the planet in the empty space.
  • This will trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game – In this game you are to press the buttons along the side which are numbered one through six to place the appropriate buttons on the lines extending from the large symbol.
  • The solution is shown in image above.
  • Solution – Press the following keys in the given sequence the given number of times to move the six small corresponding symbols to move into the designated areas near the center.
  • The keys are numbered one through six on the image above.
  • 4,5,4,5 (x2),4,5 (x2),1 (x4),2 (x6), 4,1,6 (x4), 2 (x3), 3 (x2), 5 (x2),3 (x2), and 2.
  • Once you complete the puzzle the kitchen door will open.
  • Go inside kitchen.

Chapter Five

 Penumbra Motel

  • Enter the kitchen and focus in on the toaster to the right.
  • A. Click on the toaster for a closer view.
  • B. Push the button at the bottom of the toaster.
  • C. Take the moon shape that pops up and add to your inventory.
  • Return to the secret room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Click on the toy box to the far left of room.
  • A. Click to open the box and zoom in.
  • B. Place the moon disc into the front of box to complete the other half. The box will now open.
  • Take the handle into your inventory.
  • Return to the kitchen.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the food processor to far left to zoom in.
  • B. Take the handle from inventory and place on the right end. Click on it to turn it on.
  • The skeleton will be torn to bits.
  • C. Click on the frying pan on the stove and take into inventory.
  • D. Click on the sink to zoom in. Take the pan from inventory and place it in the sink to cool it off.
  • The medal will now enter into your inventory.
  • Exit to the living room area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the little girl and listen to what she has to say. You can now go upstairs.
  • Proceed up the stairs.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. At the top of the stairs click on the light fixture to turn it on.
  • B. Open the door to the front right and go inside.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the desk to zoom in to scene.
  • B. Take the slide and add to inventory.
  • C. Take the pencil and add to inventory.
  • D. Click on the train in case to zoom in.
  • E. Use your pencil from inventory in the small hole as a handle and open the train case.
  • Take the train into your inventory.
  • Exit into the hallway.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the far scene to open a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game - Take the train from your inventory and add to the puzzle to activate it.
  • The goal of this puzzle is to rotate the tracks so they are all facing in the correct direction to take it to the depot station at the far right of the scene.
  • You have four button s you can push which are labeled A through D in image above.
  • The solution is shown in the image above.
  • Solution – Click on letter A button once, Letter B button twice, and letter C button once.
  • Once you have rotated the tracks correctly click on the start button and watch the train run along the tracks.
  • When the train reaches the station depot at key will be rewarded which you are to add to your inventory.
  • Use the key to unlock the back right door in the hallway.
  • Enter room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the closet and open door. You will have to return to this when you have a key part.
  • B. Click on the desk to zoom into the scene.
  • Take the knife from under the papers and add to your inventory.
  • Return to the room at the front right door.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the far left panel of the bookcase to zoom in.
  • B. Use the knife from inventory to remove the key button from the fabric.
  • Exit to the room at the back right again.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the large wardrobe to the right and use the button key from inventory to open the suitcase.
  • B. Take the handle from the suitcase and place in your inventory.
  • Scan over to the left to focus on the left bedside table.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the drawer to zoom in on scene.
  • B. Take the handle from inventory and place on the lower drawer to open it.
  • C. Take the Key and place into inventory.
  • Exit to hallway.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Use the key from inventory to open the left center door.
  • Go inside room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Head to the cabinet with the lattice work and take the horn hanging there into inventory.
  • B. Zoom into the bull head on the wall.
  • Take the horn from inventory and place on the bull.
  • The mouth will then open with a key. Take the key into your inventory.
  • C. Go the bear at far right and zoom in. Take the tie into your inventory.
  • Return to the secret room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the projector at far left of room.
  • Take the slides from inventory and place in the machine.
  • B. Click on the lever to start the projector.
  • Watch the film and take note of the numbers 3852 on the slides.
  • Exit back upstairs to the room at the center left of the hallway.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the locker safe at far left of room.
  • B. Enter in the combination 3852
  • C. When door opens take the bullet and part of mold into inventory.
  • Return to the lattice cupboard next.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the lattice cupboard to expose the rifle and click on again to zoom in.
  • B. Take the bullet from inventory and place into rife.
  • Place loaded rifle into your inventory.
  • Exit to the living room area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the door with the dart board on it to zoom in.
  • Use the rifle to blow the old door away.
  • Click on the lock to remove it.
  • You may now go into another room.
  • Enter the boiler room.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the shovel and use it to shovel coal. A shovel full of coal is added to your inventory.
  • B. Click on the boiler to zoom in. Note that you need coal.
  • C. Go over to the barrel under the faucet. Note there is a hole there.
  • D. Click on the table to trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • Mini Game – Take the mold piece and add to the game board to trigger the puzzle.
  • The objective is to form the image shown in the solution above by switching the tiles.
  • You will need to click on a piece and two arrows appear showing you the only ways you can move.
  • Manipulate the pieces until they form a round button.
  • Once you complete the puzzle take the magic button into inventory.
  • Return to the boiler area.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the shovel full of coal from inventory and add to the boiler.
  • B. Click on the valve.
  • Watch the flames raise.
  • C. Take the mold and add it to the hot coals.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Take the tie from inventory and place it around the faucet pipe to repair the leak.
  • Fill up the barrel under it with water.
  • B. Take the hot mold and place in the water.
  • Take the cooled mold back into inventory.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the table at far right of scene.
  • Place the mold on the table.
  • B. Click on the hammer and use it on the mold.
  • When the magic button is taken out of the mold add it to your inventory.
  • All of a sudden the house is about to blow up.
  • Leave the house immediately and head back to the hotel.
  • You will need to get into the attic.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Go up the stairs at back of house and click on the door to trigger a mini game puzzle.
  • B. Place the seven medals from your inventory onto the puzzle board to place them and activate the puzzle.
  • Mini Game – The goal is to place the gems so that the gems match the colors of the lines connecting them.
  • You can exchange gems at any line area by clicking on a gem to trade places with it.
  • You can rotate the gems by clicking on any of the medals.
  • It is best to focus on one medal at a time figuring out which colored gems need to go where and rotating the medal until they are placed.
  • When a gem and line match the line will light up.
  • When all the lines are lit up you have successfully completed the puzzle.
  • The solution is shown in the image above.
  • The door is now open and you can go into the attic area of the mansion.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on the little girl in the cage and hear what she has to say.
  • B. Take the rope into inventory.
  • C. Click on the table to the far right. Take the bloody saw into inventory and read the page in the book taking it into your diary information.

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Move to the control box at far right over girl.
  • Use the saw to cut the rope along the top of the box.
  • B. Take the rope from inventory and tie it to the hanging rope.
  • C. Pull the lever to turn on the box .

 Penumbra Motel

  • A. Click on area under control box and under the monitor.
  • B. Click on the rope to add it to the gear and restore power to the machine.
  • This will trigger a mini game puzzle.

 Penumbra Motel

  • Mini Game puzzle – The goal of this mini game is to move the three magic coins to their corresponding areas at the upper right of the puzzle grid.
  • Take the magic coin from inventory and place it on the board to activate the game.
  • When a coin is inside one of the colored squares it causes on pair of the keys with teeth to open which allows you to move through and area.
  • It doesn’t matter what color is in a square and you will need to use this to help move buttons to the right side of the board.
  • Keep working with the puzzle leaving two at the bottom left squares to open up the bottom left to right path.
  • Line up the buttons with their destinations once you can get them all through the area with teeth.
  • Solution is shown in image above.
  • Green circles show the squares that can open any of the four teeth panels when a button is in the square.
  • Once you get all three magic buttons in their correct locations you will have completed the mission as the cage will lift up and free the girl.
  • Watch the video play out and the storyline is now complete.
  • You can also play the bonus level now if you wish as completion of the game has unlocked it.
