Big Fish has pulled DHSGiT due to "implied graphic depiction" of violence. Never mind how something can be both implied and graphic.

I am really annoyed that this game was singled out to be made an example of, when almost every HOG and a good few adventure games are chock-full of murder and mayhem. Including BF's pride and joy the MCF series.

Anyway, I just want to say publicly that I hope Mousechief won't be discouraged by this turn of events. Please keep innovating! DHGSiT is a wonderfully original game and it's great to have something besides a HOG, TM, Match 3 or LFA to play with. So thanks.

I don't think black listed is the right term. It just got pulled, which is bad enough. There wasn't anything in DHSGiT more offensive than the prime-time tv series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Black listing means Big Fish would never publish another Mousechief game and would dissuade other portals from carrying it. I don't think it was that big of a deal for BFG.

However, the developer at Mousechief may have made a BIG mistake. Apparently, he publicly corrected a statement by the CEO of BFG on their forums. But he may not have known the CEO's handle, picman.

    Ooops!

You can read the sordid details on the last three pages of this thread.

Hey there eWonka!  I didn't introduce myself. I am Rvalot! hee hee. I came here to complain after they locked the thread.

I saw that too, the Mousechief guy didn't pay the proper respects to Picman and kind of got hammered for it.

I hope you're right about the blacklisting. It would be a shame if Mousechief didn't get BF sized exposure for their next great game.

I bought the game after the pretty good review I read here and thought it was innovative (I can't think of a game similar off the top of my head), witty , and a pleasant change from all the dash and HOG games that have flooded the market.

I fully agree that it's up to BFG what they support and don't support, as it's their bread and butter, but surely someone played it right through before deciding whether to sell it to the masses (It's not an alternative ending either, so should have been picked up before it was).

Just my twopennorth anyhow, and in the grand scheme of things not that important as it's available to buy on other sites.

Wait 'til the new women's murder club's released; one of the first scenes is apparantly a dead teenager.  Wonder if that gets pulled?

Probably not. BF has no problem with murder. I beta tested the game, and yes it is a dead teenager. It's a boy, an athlete from a private school.

Speaking of women's murder club, the most offensive part of it to me is that in the books, Claire is fat, fine and happy. But in the games she's just as thin as everyone else. I hate it when they do stuff like that!

  • TomPop, Yeah, rvalot, you

    TomPop,

Yeah, rvalot, you made some great posts on the DHSGiT forums at BFG. I'm surprised the community there didn't dissolve into a bunch of nonsense. Well, except for a couple reactionaries.

You know the type, "I heard it was a bad game, so I have to make up things that might be why it's bad... yada yada."

I'm still playing Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble! That Gambit takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty deep. I like figuring out each of the personalities so I can usually win, even if my girls' talents aren't that strong.

Have you tried the Aveyond series?

No I haven't tried it, but I do like games that take a bit of planning in advance, etc.  I did used to love HOGs but I've had it up to the back teeth with them so haven't bought a new game in ages until DHSGIT.  I'll have to check it out ewonka.  Thanks for the heads up.

I am so disappointed in Big Fish for this bush league move. I don't belong to Game Club, but I have bought games from them before and been nothing but pleased and impressed with their customer service. Now, I'm going to be reluctant to patronize them again.  The worst thing is that all the trouble started , not in the forums, but in BFG's own extremely misleading and inaccurate description of the game, which led to the angry discussions in the forums by people who hadn't even played the game.

For what it's worth, I'm a 51 year old librarian - and like most librarians, I HATE censorship.

  • The game advertises itself

    Report as Inappropriate

The game advertises itself as a "sassy, mischievous romp," and holds to that promise for most of the game.  But then it sucker-punches the player with a scenario that includes a teenaged girl being abducted and beaten unconscious by an adult male.  Then he attempts to rape her helpless form.  Her friends come along and shoot the would-be rapist in the head.

I didn't want to play a game with this subject matter, because I'm a victim of violent sexual assault.  I choose to avoid games that include potential violence against women.  The game should have an "M" rating and warn the buyer of graphic content - I felt tricked.

Worst of all, when I wrote the developer, he justified including the scene as "educational," "awareness-raising" and "promoting appropriate response." There is nothing educational about this scene - it doesn't teach girls how to defend themselves against sexual assault.  Homicide is not an appropriate response to attempted rape - it's illegal.
