Topic: The Ending?

  • The Ending?

    Report as Inappropriate

Hey all, I have just finished the game (which i absolutely LOVE - congratulations on the concept, the graphics and the most AMAZING VOICES!!!! Those I think were my favourite!!!)

I have one question though... is there an ending?  A story to tell? Why there were no women on the island etc? And the whole "explain later" thing?

PLEASE tell me I missed something. I feel so unfulfilled :-(

    All my best,

    Jay'ka

After finishing the entire volcano level (kaba lui park), there is a cutscene with the bombs being placed etc etc and then it continues to show the queen finding a secret path to an area full of women. then the screen reads to be continued later (i think). I also noticed that afterwards the cutscenes do not feature the two dudes that were advising the queen at the beginning, and a new, curly-haired "hunk" is there instead. what happened ?

I'm thinking I missed a cutscene, but I don't think I skipped anything. I finished the game and there was NO continuation of that storyline, no other mention or shot of the girls etc., not even anything about hte curly-haired guy.

Did you see that cutscene I'm talking about? Can anyone else explain what was going on? Can u perhaps get the proper story by playing the levels in a different order? I did play them the way the Gamezebo walkthrough says: aloha cove - coconut queen bay - dun-dah beach - kaba lui park- blue moon lagoon - yippi-kai-yeh temple.

I'm devastated. The ending seemed a bit uninspired for such a wonderful game. where's the rest of the story??

  • I didn't have any cutscenes.

I didn't have any cutscenes. It showed the different maps, everyone dancing on  the beaches (the monkeys were very funny) with end credits.

See, that's the cutscene I didn't get! I did the Hot Springs level last and before stage 10 there was the cutscene with placing the bombs and the laptop but after finishing the level all I got was the "you won" with the dancing on the beach. I waited for 5-6 minutes but no scene followed. Then when  returning to the main menu it said "are you sure your process will be wiped out" or something. after that I couldn't get the cutscene anymore :-(

    I feel so sad :-(

I had exactly the same experience as Jayka. I finished the hot springs last, I thought something would happen with those bombs, but nothing.

I'm going to replay it by finishing off with the temple last.

And another thing I don't understand - near the beginning Kane was talking with his father over the phone and said "she'll be perfect". Perfect for what??

  • The developer of  the game

The developer of  the game answered my question over at the jayisgames website:

"The main storyline between Liz and Kane plays out over Aloha Cove,
Coconut Queen Bay, Dundah Beach and finally Kaba-Lui Hot Springs.

Yippi-Kai-Yeh Temple and Blue Moon Lagoon are optional locations,
which you can play through at any time after completing Aloha Cove,
regardless of where you are in the main plot. So to avoid confusion (or
that's what I thought I was doing anyhow) we had those plot points
unfold with Hoanui, our "gentle giant", instead.

Ideally, we would have used Hoanui for the in-game dialogue, I know. But animation ain't cheap!"

So it's safe to say that the scene I was describing was the ending, and there's a sequel coming up.. So things were not explained in this first game.. The proper ending is then, at the end of the volcano level, and we were sadly not given enough information about it all. Aaah, the wait for a sequel is going to be long...

Thanks for this surfmad. I got the cutscene by the way, when I finished the hot springs before the temple.

  • Well, I suppose I can

Well, I suppose I can clarify the ending without divulging anything that would be revealed in a sequel...

Yes, the subplots in Yippi-Kai-Yeh Temple and Blue Moon Lagoon are entirely optional.  They flesh out the narrative, answer some minor questions and pose a few more.

DO NOT READ THE REST OF THIS POST IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE GAME

In-game, you see a map that only shows half of the Island of Lui-Lui.  At the end of Kaba-Lui Hot Springs, Liz's plans to save the island included a little deviousness on her part, and she arranged to also clear a path to the "taboo" side.  In the chaos at the end, Liz snuck to the other side and found...

...A palace identical to her own, but staffed with women, and with a man on the throne!

The last thing we heard Kane say was "Dad's gonna kill me!"  And we see Kane and Mr. Kahuna racing into the second palace, seconds too late to prevent Liz from confronting the Man on the Throne.

Kane and Mr. Kahuna are clearly working together, but also keeping important secrets from Liz.  She tried finding the answers on her own, but now there are new questions!

It's complicated.  I'll explain later!  Innocent

Thanks Andy, but HOW do you know that - is that a cutscene? Will we be able to see it if we don't finish the springs last?

So there are plans for a sequel? That would be so awesome. Coconut Queen is the first game ever where it is really worth playing the free mode due to a lot of reasons.

    Thanks again, Andy!

My feedback, which I hope you find helpful:

Your strategy of using the curly-haired guy for the optional stage narration so as to hint at at sub-plots instead of additional main-plot-related stages was a good idea, but once I personally saw how difficult the Temple stage was I somehow was certain that THAT was the last level of the game. I think further clarification that the volcano level was the last one, chronologically, would have helped clear any confusion. Just my thoughts.

Now go work on a sequel or we'll kidnap and make you do it 24/7!
