The cloudforest gets bigger with three new screenshots

Up until now the stream of new information about Cloudforest Expedition could best be described as a trickle. Some character art here, a single screenshot there. So it’s pretty exciting that today we have three brand new screenshots to share with you, that show off some new locales to give you a better sense of what the game will be like.

Interestingly, two of the screenshots show off camp sites in two different locations. One around the burned out husk of a crashed airplane, and the other, which looks to be dangerously close to a volcano. You can also see some of the characters in the game, including a large tribesman and a few people hanging around the camp sites.

Cloudforest Expedition is the first game from developer Loot Drop and is set to hit Facebook this fall.

First Cloudforest Expedition screenshot revealed

Up until now the developers at Loot Drop have been content to tease us with little more than art work and vague clues for the upcoming Facebook game Cloudforest Expedition. But now we finally have a screenshot.

It’s hard to gather much from the image, which bears the enticing tagline “Adventure Awaits,” but it’s nice to see the game’s great art style in context. You can see the heroine running through a dense forest complete with what looks like a masked tribesman and a number of animals, including a frog, the previously revealed nocturnal lemur, and even what appears to be a giant ant hiding behind a tree.

Most of the interface looks fairly standard, with a friends list on the bottom and information such as energy, money, and resources like wood and coconuts up top. However, there are also three mysterious symbols in the bottom left corner of the screen showing off a flag, a shovel, and a whistle. What could they mean? We’ll obviously have to wait and find out.

Don’t forget that by “Like”ing the game’s fan page you’ll be helping unlock the debut trailer early. Cloudforest Expedition is currently sitting at just over 1,200 “Likes,” and when it reaches 5,000 an exclusive “Making Of” trailer will be released.

New art reveals some of the characters from the forest

Pieces of art continue to trickle out over at the Cloudforest Expedition Facebook page, and the latest batch reveals one of the more important aspects of the game: the characters. You’ll be able to play Cloudforest as either a male or female explorer, and to help you along your way a guide named Fay will serve as your mentor.

Here’s what the developers had to say about the heroic duo that players can choose from: “Great adventures have iconic heroes or heroines who tackle the odds with whip-smart acumen as they rise victoriously above their challenges. A clever mind and natural instincts come with those charming good looks and in Cloudforest Expedition you can choose from two dashing characters.”

Meanwhile, a few weeks back, Fay was revealed, who in addition to serving as your helpful guide, also has a twin sister with whom she has a special, possibly supernatural, connection.

It shouldn’t be too long before you get to meet the whole gang, as Cloudforest Expedition is slated for a summer release.

The first details of Cloudforest Expedition trickle out

Slowly but surely the good folks at Loot Drop, the new social game developer headed up by John Romero and Brenda Brathwaite, have been sneaking out details for the first release from the studio, Cloudforest Expedition. The game’s Facebook page now features some art to give an idea of what the final product will look like, as well as some details about how the game will actually play.

Possibly the most surprising detail is that the game will put a strong emphasis on music, which few Facebook games do. The developers claim that the soundtrack is “unlike any you’ve heard in social games before” and that the music is as compelling as the game’s story.

There’s also a first look at some of the flora and fauna that you’ll come across while exploring the forest. The first animal revealed is a nocturnal lemur, who will “help you build, clear, and explore your way across the exotic landscape.” Meanwhile, as you would expect from a game set in a forest, there’s quite a bit of trees in the game, which apparently become increasingly wilder as you delve deeper into the forest.

While it’s not a whole lot to go on, we can’t help but be excited for Cloudforest Expedition. Not only has the team worked on some of the most influential video games around (including the Doom and Wizardry series’), but both Romero and Brathwaite worked with Lolapps on the excellent Ravenwood Fair.

Be sure to stay tuned to Gamezebo and “like” the game’s Facebook page for further updates on Cloudforest Expeditiion.
