cathy if it is any help the fourth word is retrieve, if i can give the whole cryptogram let me know i don't know what the etiquette is on these forums, this is the first time i have ever asked a question on one, i must love this game!

Cathy, once you have finished the cryptogram, you are done with it - unless you need to check the message for the clue it contains. I suspect you are stuck because once you finish it, the clue stays open. Close it up and continue the game, you do NOT need to do anything with it after it's solved. Try the pen elsewhere... Once you take care of using the pen in it's proper place, you should be able to use the hint that the cryptogram contains.

There is a little tiny x in the top right corner of the cryptogram that will close it so you can see the whole room again. There is another item in that room that you will need to keep going.

I am not even at any cryptogram yet, I have the pen, pick ax and something else cannot remember what, how do you get the guy out of the kitchen so you can get his tool kit, I swear I am either getting dumber or something, I have had to ask something on almost every book....

I thought that one was particularly weird. What will happen is that you will have footprints and fingerprints (both clues) in your inventory. You need to match the footprints to the worker's boots to see if they match, and the fingerprints to his hands. And if you have to line them up just right.

I have been backwards and forwards and cannot see where to use the pen. I have found the requisition form, but nothing works on that. I have the pen, icepick, wrench and mail container. Please help.

There will be a requisition form on the desk in the radio room. You need to use the pen to mark ICE so that you are requisitioning ice. Then put the form in your inventory.Now you need to send the filled out form somewhere to actually request the ice. In an earlier room you saw a pneumatic tube mail system, which is how one department of the ship communicates with another.In order to send in the requisition, you will need to repair the broken mail system, which will require a couple of inventory items (at least one found in another room).Once you have it working, you can send the requisition, and the ice will be delivered to the galley (where the workman was).

In the room with the pneumatic system there is something broken but the wrench doesn't work there.

Help please! I have spent a lot of time with this book. I cannot find the key to open the drawer which I am sure must be the only thing I am missing. Can anyone help me on this one? ThanksPosted Linda S on 08/30/08, 06:40pm
binky, if I remember correctly, you get the key after you have solved everything else. When you talk to Holmes, he simply gives you the key.If you are stuck earlier in the game, I would urge you to look around at the other threads for this book. It's a common one to get stuck on (I got stuck, too), so there are a lot of threads about the Detective book.

The key was in the ice block lol What I had missed was properly signing the requisition form, wasn't doing it in the right place. Once I got that figured out I was onmy way to completing this book. Thanks :)
