We’ve been hearing a lot of rumbling (or squawking) around these parts lately about the hotly anticipated Angry Birds animated movie that Rovio has wanted to make. We already knew that a number of major studios were vying for the rights to purchase the film, but now we have official confirmation this week that Sony Pictures Entertainment has been the early bird to get the multi-million dollar worm.

The fact that you can play Angry Birds on basically every device under the sun is pretty cool. What's less cool, however, is that your progress isn't saved between devices. With the newly launched Rovio Accounts, that's something Rovio is hoping to change.

If there’s one thing we enjoy more than awesome games, it’s awesome games available for the low price of free. As such, you can probably imagine how excited we were when we saw the almighty Angry Birds go free earlier today on iOS (as well as our subsequent disappointment when we realized we already owned it).

Hallelujah, it’s rainin’ birds. Earlier today, Rovio announced that its long-awaited Angry Birds Toons will sail into our lives on March 16 and 17. Rovio plans to release 52 episodes per year, and the basic premise around most of the shorts appears to revolve around (sit down for this one) the Pigs’ attempts to steal the Birds’ eggs.

Despite lacking any sort of appendages, the green pigs of the Angry Birds universe sure are hyperactive. They covered a tremendous amount of ground in their own game Bad Piggies, and it sounds like they’ve still yet to tucker out: Rovio has revealed via Twitter that more content is coming soon to the game in the form of “Road Hogs.” What is Road Hogs, you ask? It appears to be a new mode of some sort, although that's all we know at the moment.

Regardless of how you feel about the Angry Birds franchise, there’s no question that Rovio does right by the fans. There’s an endless supply of merchandise in pretty much every store under the sun, and the games receive content updates on a consistent basis. In fact, Rovio has just pushed live an all new pack of levels for Angry Birds Space, and even gone to the trouble of writing up a whole new set of bird and pig puns for it. Now that’s dedication.

It was just this past Friday that we reported on Rovio’s tantalizing teaser for an upcoming announcement in New York City. An announcement happening seven hours from now, involving Toys’R’Us and Star Wars. Thanks to the crack investigative journalism of the Gamezebo news team, and a stolen time machine, we’ve managed to uncover the details of Angry Birds’ next merchandising move. Wait, what? This just in: I’m getting word it wasn’t a time machine that helped us...it was the internet. 

A long time ago, in a Rovio far, far away...hm. Doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it? Don’t worry though, you’ll have plenty of time to get used to the sentiment, as it seems that the company is about to kick off a huge partnership with LucasArts and the Star Wars brand.

When Bad Piggies was revealed earlier this month, Rovio decided to take the cryptic route. All we really had to go on was an announcement that it wouldn’t be anything like a traditional Angry Birds game. Today, the developer is breaking their silence, bombarding the world with all the details and info they could hope for.
