In this puzzle you rearrange the board by swapping any two tokens. To win the puzzle, every token has to be part of an illuminated closed field.

The board is made up of small fields of three or more tokens. For example, if you have a section of the board that has a triangle, a square and a triangle all next to each other in a row. You can put 3 purple tokens on one triangle and three red tokens on the other triangle and they will each light up as a closed field. The square in between the triangles will also light up as a closed field. Even though the square has two red and two purple tokens, it is still a closed field because it is enclosed by the illuminated triangles.

It’s hard to explain and the patterns are hard to see sometimes. You just have to start placing the tokens and move them around to see what will work. Sometimes I count the tokens of a color to see if there is an odd or even number of tokens and that lets me know if they will work in a certain area.

There is a small glimmer of hope in this temple. In the Thot temple you are given the ability to skip some of the puzzles. There are 4 stages of six games in each difficulty level. In each of the 4 stages when you complete the third and fifth games you are given a Glyph Bonus Round game. When you solve the Glyph game you get 1 magic point. For 3 magic points you can skip one of the Thot puzzles. In the other temples when you win a Glyph game, Khufu is given additional magic power ups.

In level 1 difficulty, you have to complete the Glyph game for Stage 1 after the third and fifth Thot puzzles to get 2 magic points. Then you have to complete the Glyph game for Stage 2 after the third Thot puzzle, and then you will have your first 3 magic points.

If you want to skip a puzzle you can click on the menu button in the lower left corner of the screen and one of the options is Skip This Puzzle. If you don’t have enough magic points it will tell you and won’t let you skip it.

Over the whole game, difficulty levels one, two and three, you can earn 24 magic points and you have the ability to skip 8 of the Thot puzzles. I plan to use my 8 skips in difficulty level three if I ever get there. Send a Kudo Post a reply Quote & Reply

Thank you Lizzie, I will try again. Between you and EIEIO, maybe I can figure it out. My objective now is to get the oddball ones on the line to light up. So, if they are part of the square, they should light up? I'll go try again.

One good thing is that you don’t have to play in the Thot temple if you don’t want to. You can go through all of the levels of difficulty in all of the other temples without playing in any temple that you don’t like. You don’t have to complete level one for all the temples in order to get to level two of any particular temple. So you can be in level one of Thot and be in level two of all the other temples.

  • Lizzie: Finally completed 4

    Report as Inappropriate

Lizzie: Finally completed 4 or 24 in the dreaded Thot. I finally figured out that all blue and etc. didn't need to be together. I worked on those 2 nasty corners first and got them to light up, then just trial and error. When I solved it, cutie pie gave my a hint that all the colored stones or gems whatever you call them, didn't need to be together. I had to laugh, that really tickled me. I could have used that hint before not after, I said to my furry friend on screen. Hehe. I got in the position to go to Anubis so I jumped at the chance. Not having any problem so far, just Thot, keep running out of time. I find it more enjoyable now. When I first started game I did all 24 of Isis section. It's good to know you can skip around.

  • The Thot puzzle solutions

    Report as Inappropriate

The Thot puzzle solutions are random. When you play the Thot puzzles the grid layout you get is the same if you repeat the puzzle. But the numbers of each color of the tokens you are given to work with changes. For example if the grid has 37 tokens, you might get tokens of different colors in groups of 4,4,5,12,12 when you try it one time. But the next time you might get the 37 tokens in groups of 4,5,7,9,12. The grid layout will be in the same configuration but you have to solve it different ways depending on the number of tiles of each color you have. There are 72 different puzzles in this temple and each has a different grid pattern.

    Hey everyone!

Here's a little secret that could be of help to you ;). When the game creates a token layout for the current level, it starts by arranging the tokens into one of the solutions and them scrambles them a bit. So the initial placement of colors often hints at the right way to arrange tokens.

For example - if there's a lot of green in one place, chances are that other green tokens should go there too.

Hope it helps. Have fun with this temple. I think it's the favorite of mine. It's often challenging, but boy is it rewarding to find the right solution to a hard puzzle :).

Tom, Thank you so much for the great tip. I was so excited to see it that I had to play a couple of rounds in Thot's temple before I went to work this morning. And with that info it is easier. Can't wait to get home this evening and try some more. Thanks again for the great game!

    Report as Inappropriate

El, I didn't see the grid change either. I think maybe what he was saying is that the program starts off with the solved grid in place then it scrables it, but not too much. I don't think we are allowed to see the grid before it is scrambled (wow that would be nice, but maybe too easy). I think he was saying just stick close to the pattern that shows up when you start because most of the pieces are in the general area where they belong.

  • Copied from the Tips

    Report as Inappropriate

    Copied from the Tips thread
    6. Temple of Thot--group size The game tip tells you to first figure out where to put the colour that has the most stones. I actually do this temple the other way around. Say the field has 4 red stones, 12 purple stones, 7 yellow stones. I notice that there is a stand along shape of 4 stones. I'll go ahead and put the red stones there, to get them out of the way. There's no rule that says that all the purple stones have to go next to each other--you can use them as a group of 8 plus a group of 4, a group of 3 plus a group of 9, etc. So for me, I looked at the smallest set first.

    7. Temple of Thot--last stone
If you get very close, so there is only one stone left dark and one move will give you the solution, Khufu will give you a tip that tells you one will solve it. At this point, if you have no clue to do, just remember where the one dark stone is. Now start trading it, one at a time, with any other likely stone. If that's not the solution, put them back and try again with the dark stone and a different partner. The point is--don't start randomly swapping things around. If you're one move away, the only thing that needs to be traded is that original dark stone. Again, obvious once you're used to it, but I wasted some time until I realized that.

    8. Temple of Thot--it's stones that matter, not total shapes.
This is a different rule than most of the temples. Here, you don't clear the board by filling in every individual shape like you do in the other temples. Instead, the rule is that each stone must be in an illuminated shape. You can actually have a square that has two green stones and two red stones--as long as each of those four stones is part of another shape that is a full set of one colour. So while in most temples you keep an eye on the links to see which ones are still dark, in Thot you keep an eye on the stones to see which ones are in full sets.

I found quite often that the only way to solve a puzzle in Thot was to have one of these shapes that would not have lit up in another temple because it was a mix of colours--but that worked in Thot because the individual stones were all in complete sets.

    9. Temple of Thot--count the stones at the beginning
You're not going to get any new stones in this Temple. So if you have 4 blue stones, you have 4 blue stones. There will never be any more blue ones. So that tells you that those 4 must go on a rectangle someplace. If you use 3 of them on a triangle, the 4th one will never have a home. I start each level on Thot by writing down the number of stones for each colour, so I know what I'm aiming for. Then whenever I see a standalone shape and I have an exact match (like a standalone pentagon and I have 5 red stones) I fill those in, just so it's one less colour to worry about.

  • I think I should be more

    Report as Inappropriate

I think I should be more clear earlier. You can't *see* the initial board setup. The program sort of "thinks" of the right solution to a puzzle, then scrambles the tokens a bit and only then shows the board to the player. However, as the initial setup is only a scrambled version of the correct solution, you can get hints from the initial layout of colors. Hope it explains more what I've meant.

Another tip I have is more of psychological nature ;). I know that it worked for me (yes, I too had my hard times with some puzzles ;)) when I didn't tried to finish a puzzle at all costs. If I couldn't find a solution, I just hopped to another temples and got back to solving the puzzle again from start later. Each time the puzzles are a bit different, so I usually eventually stumbled on a layout that I could solve more easily. And being more relaxed, I had less problems with thinking of new solutions. Try it out. It might work for you too ;).

I snapped pictures as I completed the Thot puzzles beginning with number 29 through 53. Some are pretty blurry. My hands must have been shaking from playing on the computer so much. The puzzles are random so these pictures are just examples. The grids stay the same for each puzzle each time you work it but the solutions are different.
Thot puzzle photos I will post more photos as I complete more Thot puzzles. Margie B is going to post photos but since the puzzles are random, the more pictures the better.

Hey Lizzie, Great Job on the pictures! You guys are so talented on this site, I'm impressed daily.

I'm wondering if the stones are random, wouldn't the solutions basically be the same just the colors would be different?

Also I noticed that in some of your screenhots (Thot 29 and 30 is what I looked at) I see some gems that are half and half in color. I only played a little bit but is that something that happens later on because I don't recall seeing that?

    Thanks, Margie B

  • The half & half stones come

    Report as Inappropriate

The half & half stones come in level 2 (I think). In level 3 you have 2 half & half stones, at least in the levels I have done so far. I have found that if I repeat a puzzle the solution is totally different each time. The numbers of stones of each color is different and the placement of the half and half stones is different. I guess TeeGee would know for sure how random they are, but they seem really different to me if I repeat a puzzle.

Thanks Lizzie, that's some good information. I was curious about that. The screenshots are good because they give you an idea of at least what you need to do. I may do the guide a little differently like Robin suggested and maybe do some screenshots with techniques. I never know how I'm going to do it until I start so we'll see how it turns out. Thanks again Lizzie!
