According to the original game, Ylli may have been "the real devil who watches from the tower", but when I saw him in the game and realized who he was, I just felt sorry for him. His own father tried to suffocate him because of a mutated version of "The Gift", and Sydney called him "an abomination". Only Celeste seemed to love him, and Jess/Setareh?

Here's what I would have done if I were her, and here's what I would have written if I were one of the game developers: a fourth ending!

    THE REDEMPTION OF YLLI

REQUIRED:  The Moon (Celeste Tellus)--4 stars  and The Wheel of Fortune (4 Stars)

BEFORE THE FINAL SCENE WITH YLLI--ADDITIONAL DIALOGUE

DEVIN TELLUS:  If you're strong, you'll survive. If you're very strong, you may even be able to get control of your brother and send him back into hiding.

JESS: Wait. He's--he's my brother. Can't I do something to save him?

DEVIN TELLUS: I'm afraid he's beyond saving. That's why I tried to end his life thirty years ago, when both you and he were born. I knew the damage, and the harm, that would come of his mutated version of the Gift. Your mother--bless her heart. She wouldn't listen to me, and look what he ended up doing. She wouldn't surrender her power to him, and so he killed her.

JESS: But--sometimes evil's not all that it seems. Like the Hanged Man--the card that represents you. I thought YOU were evil. I thought you were out to get me. I--I even thought you'd killed my twin, and that's why you wound up in the Asylum! I never knew the sacrifices that you made for me...

DEVIN TELLUS: I know. I did it all to protect you, because I love you.

JESS: Thank you. I love you, too. And--and I love Ylli as well, no matter what he's done. He's not only my brother--he's my twin! If I don't do something to try and help him find his way, I'll never forgive myself!

DEVIN TELLUS: I never forgave myself for letting him live. However, if this is what you feel you must do, I give you my full and unconditional support. Listen to me. Surviving Ylli's attack, and even defeating him, will be easy compared to his redemption. He is a mastermind, a murderer. If you choose two cards that will reach him--two that will mean the world to him--you might be able to get him to yield to you, Jess, and thus redeem himself.

JESS:  But which cards do I pick?

DEVIN TELLUS: I can't tell you. You must try to sense what Ylli treasures, what he loves and wants the most. Besides you, Jess. He wants you.

JESS:  I know...(Jess picks cards. Pick the 2 mentioned above).

FINAL SCENE--JESS WITH YLLI AT THE MINARET

YLLI:  As I said before, Setareh...relinquish your power to me, or die.

JESS:  Ylli. You don't have to do this. I know you don't! I forgive you!

YLLI:  You forgive me? For what?

JESS:  For what you did to Mother. Our real mother. The one who wanted you to live. (Pauses.) Ylli? I never meant for any of this to happen to you.

YLLI:  Indeed. It was Father, and the Order, who wanted me dead.

JESS:  I know. Listen...can you sense her?

    YLLI:  Our mother?

JESS:  Yes. Listen closely. Time's running out. Celeste is calling to you...

YLLI:  This...this is a trick! Yield now! (Prepares to strike the final blow.)

JESS: (Knows in a split second what she must do.) Ylli! I surrender! (The amulet glows, and its power is transferred through Ylli's mask into his mind. After a brief pause.) The Gift is yours now. The real Gift, not the mutation.

YLLI:  Mother, she's...she's holding me. I'm going back in time...

(CELESTE is seen in that weird, blurry style, holding a baby and twirling him around and around in her arms, laughing like a carefree little girl.)

JESS:  I know how hard it must have been for you all these years. Adrian Crawford kept you here, and he didn't let you leave. First he controlled you, and then when you got stronger, then you started controlling him.

YLLI:  Yes. I wanted freedom...and I wanted revenge as well.

JESS:  But to achieve both, you had to have the Gift, not the anomaly. That's why you tried to track me down. That's why you attacked me. Devin Tellus is dead. Our father--he gave his life for me. And so, I've given my life for you.

YLLI: Setareh--why? Why did you not try to send me back into oblivion?

JESS:  All I've ever wanted was a family--a real, intact family. Not money, not fame and fortune, not even the Gift. People are who I love, and I love you.

YLLI:  (A tear escapes through a crack in Ylli's mask. Pauses.) Come here.

JESS: (Does so. She humbly kneels down in front of Ylli.) Hmm?

(YLLI presses his forehead to hers, and both of them glow mysteriously.)

YLLI: The Gift is yours again. The Wheel of Fortune has turned, and now you have the power that was yours at birth--and mine. In your surrender has come your victory. You can control my mutation. You can heal it, Setareh. Believe me.

JESS: What? Ylli, how can I heal it?

YLLI: Take my hand. (She does so. Nothing seems to happen, but her twin brother wipes another tear away from his cracked mask.) I wish you ill no more. I wish no one ill anymore. Setareh--when you need me, I'll be here.

JESS:  And when you need me, I'll be here.

YLLI: There will be a test ahead when you will need every ally you can find. It quickly approaches. When it comes, close your eyes. You'll find me in due time.

    JESS: Thank you.

YLLI:  No. Thank you. (He vanishes, but into the light, not the darkness.)

THE END (I wish I could have gotten it!)
