Hi, I like the new look of the site, well done. But, you have done a terrible thing: You mad a forum to post comments!!! This is really a bad choice. It takes far too many clicks to reach the comments. Before, just by reading the front page, you could see if an article had comments (or new ones). Usually, all the "blogs" who did that lost a lot of their traffic. I hope it will not be the case for Gamezebo. Basically, you made it harder for us to enjoy your site. Compare to the simplicity of the old ways, it feels very painful to use. Sorry to be negative on this feature, but I had to tell you. Send a Kudo Post a Reply Quote & Reply

    Hi Ovogame

I can understand your frustation but change takes time. I think once you become more familiar with the site's navigation system you'll find it easier than the old site.We still have some changes to make so we ask that you just bear with us.

    Thanks

it's really frustrating... all the old comments which were full of hints and tips on games seem to have disappeared

and one of the reasons i visted gz all the time was to see the latest comments, i preferred to read reviews if there were comments on them so i could see multiple opinions... now i cant tell from the fromt page if there are any comments at all and if there ARE any it takes a lot of work to find them... it feels like theyve been hidden so that people will only see the GZ opinion :(

ill check back in a few weeks to see how things are going but for the moment i dont think ill be visiting gz as much anymore.

  • Thanks for your feedback

Thanks for your feedback guys, and please do understand that the new site is still a work in progress and there are kinks to be worked out.

One of the huge advantages of the new format, including forums, is that it has created one single place for people to leave comments about a game, whereas on the old site there could be 3 or 4 different conversations going all about the same game - if someone posted a question on the Preview article, it might get answered on the Tips article, and so on. Now those are all consolidated into one centralized hub.

As for seeing feedback and comments, true you can't see them from the main page, but they really are only two extra clicks away. All you have to do is click on the game to open up its page, then you can click to see User Reviews directly under the gamezebo review. Or, if you scroll to the bottom of the review you can see how many messages have been posted in the forum.

The comments from the old site unfortunately did not come with us to the new site, but we realize that there was a lot of valuable information there and we're slowly working to transfer old comments to the new site as forum posts (and when I say "we" I mostly mean our amazing Community Manager and guide writer extroardinair, Margie!)

  • Hi Gamezebo people, Please,

    Report as Inappropriate

    Hi Gamezebo people,

Please, do not take the comments as a personal attack. I can imagine that it took you a huge effort to revamp the site and you don’t want to hear people complaining. But if I took some of mine time to make these comments it is because I felt it really hurt your site. I am a big fan of Gamezebo, I read every day (in fact I check it few times a day). I really want you to be successful. I am a casual game developer and this industry need the kind of support you are providing. So, you see, I am 100% on your side ;)

Ok, let me make some remarks about how you could improve your site. After all, you are doing this all the time when commenting on our games ;)

First of all, the comments are not 2 clicks away from the front page, but 3 clicks (that’s too much). You click on the article (+1), you click on discuss this game in our forum (+2), you click on the subject you want to read (+3). That’s 3 clicks.

I am not a web developer but it must be possible to “attach” the forum at the end of the article. For example, check this mock-up I made from the virtual villager 3 review:
    http://www.ovogame.com/Misc/gamezebo.jpg

This would be so much better, you ditch one click and you can see the different thread attach to the game while reading the article.

Also, while I am here complaining ;) can I add that I find the window for commenting very annoying. The background fades and become un-selectable. This is very bad, when I want to comment on an article I want to be able to still read the article and the previous comments (so, I can check back stuff and copy and paste some quotes). At the moment, the original article is not even present on screen. And the previous comments just vanish. If you do it the way, I suggest in the mock-up and get rid of this "on the top" window, you will stop having this problem.

    Sometimes, simpler means better.

Anyway, good luck with your site, as I said it before, I really which you success.

    Jean-Claude

  • Hi Erin - I think, we all

    Report as Inappropriate

Hi Erin - I think, we all know, that you still have a bunch of work and of course, we understand, that not everything can be done in one way. So please take our comments just as a feedback to support you all. And I agree with a lot of users here, the forum is a great idea, but it needs a lot work to do. In the moment it is hard to find something back. As there is no way to see, whats inside the main-titles (and not everyone makes himself the work to look everything up), you have a lot of double postings (in the meaning of: Same issues but diffrent threads). And as there is no 'controle'(yet?) about the comments, nobody moves the threads to eachother. But Im sure, this and other issues will be solved - and Im also sure, that most of us have a lot of patient :). Greetings, Kayleigh

again, all good suggestions. the goal was to make a forum that was a hybrid of comments and forum, that would be best of both worlds. alas, did not achieve this ...yet...but definitely have ideas how to improve this. everyone's suggestions are very good.

    thanks,
    joel

How do I get to the Forums without going through a specific game?

I'm specifically interested in getting to the Members Lounge Forum and others like it that aren't related to a specific game.
