Check out our strategy guide for Westward II: Heroes of the Frontier.
Westward II is an expansive game with plenty of twists and turns to keep you occupied for days on end. This sequel is not quite as linear as the first Westward game, which certainly makes writing a walkthrough more challenging.
Along with the normal operation of your town, you are presented with a series of mini-quests, side quests and puzzles to solve. The game can easily become overwhelming and frustrating at times, but I found that slowing down is the real key to success. When new characters appear and demand food, gold, wood or help, let them wait until you're ready.
Take your time to build your town slowly and carefully. It is much harder to maintain the balance between your population and your available resources in Westward II than it was in the first game so careful planning is crucial.
With the addition of the "happiness" meter, keeping all of your townsfolk fed, housed and employed is imperative. Hungry, homeless or unemployed residents will become angry, lowering the happiness rating of the town and ultimately leave if their needs are not met.
GETTING STARTED
The first decision you have to make is which hero to play as. Each character has a different bonus they bring to the game.
Marion Morrison - Choose Marion to unlock the windmill and corn at no extra cost. Maureen Fitzsimmons - Play as Maureen to unlock banks at no extra cost. Terrance Stevens - Pick Terrance to get the trading post unlocked.
New players might want to select Marion, as the bonuses that character gives are the most useful early on in the game.
THE BUILDINGS
A wide variety of buildings are available for your town. Each building has a purpose and affects your town differently. A small shack provides housing for one person and a log cabin can be home for two people. A farm can grow wheat or corn and a ranch can be used for livestock. Many of the buildings can be upgraded as well, making them more useful and more versatile.
A small number of buildings are unlocked when you begin the game. Others can be unlocked in several ways. First, you earn experience as you play and those points can be used in the "store" to unlock different buildings. Others will be unlocked as you complete puzzles or meet new characters.
To see what each building does, hold the mouse over the icon in the building screen. The basic use of the building as well as the gold and wood requirements for building will be displayed.
Upgrades for your buildings can be purchased through the store. You can upgrade the farm to produce corn or pumpkins. The ranch can be upgraded to raise cattle or pigs. Explore the upgrades screen to see all of the available items.
Luxury buildings and objects can also be purchased through the store. These generally increase the overall happiness rating of a town. Buildings like the barber shop and items such as gazebos and fountains are all available in the luxury tab.
When starting out, build slowly! Every time you build a shack or log cabin, more people will come to live in your town. On one hand, you need to begin populating the town to have people working in the mines, farms and lumber mills. However, too many people early on can lead to disaster!
The more people you have in your town, the more food and other resources you will need. Try to keep the population to a minimum at first as disgruntled settlers will reduce the happiness rating and may leave the town if their needs are not met.
BASIC NEEDS AND RESOURCES
Your town needs resources to survive. Food, water, shelter, gold and wood are the primary resources in Westward II.
Food
Food is gained from three main sources. First and foremost are the farms that you will build. A farm functions the best when it is fully employed with 4 settlers. The basic farms grow wheat but can be upgraded to grow corn and pumpkins as well. Build granaries and windmills to store food and increase farm productivity.
Food can be gathered from the wilds as well. Though the supply is not endless, it can be enough to get through a dry spell. Berry bushes can be found scattered around the map as well as barrels of apples. Drag a settlers to a nearby stream or pond to fish when food supplies run out. (Note - you will see fish in the water in some places. Drag your settler to the edge of the water and right-click on the fish.) Try to save these limited resource food items for emergencies and droughts.
Ranches will be available once you've earned enough experience to purchase the plans from the store. Although they are more expensive to build than farms, they will produce more sustainable foods. Upgrades for the ranch buildings will allow you to maintain cattle or pigs instead of chickens.
Water
Water is necessary to sustain a farm and your population. Wells are cheap and offer 8 units of water. At the beginning of the game, it is useful to have one well for each farm. Later on, once the town is more established, water towers do the job with greater efficiency.
Fires may break out from time to time and destroy your buildings. Build wells in strategic locations near groups of cabins or shacks and other important buildings. In the event of a fire, drag your settlers onto the burning building and they will fetch pails of water from the wells to extinguish the flames and hopefully save the buildings from ruin.
If you complete the fire tutorial quest, your settlers will automatically put out the fires as long as you have water available in a nearby well. You can still drag additional settlers onto the fire to help if the firefighting efforts are taking too long.
Shelter
You need people to live and work in your town and those people need homes! Shacks are available right from the beginning and are cheap to build. Each shack only houses one person and they lower the happiness rating of the town, so don't build more than you need. Shacks can be replaced later in the game by demolishing them and building better housing. Don't forget to re-house the settler in the new home or they will become angry, quit their jobs, lower the happiness rating and possibly even leave town.
Soon after you begin your game, you will have the opportunity to get the plans for the log cabin. Complete the quest involving Fremont Auren and he will give you the plans. Build a log cabin to house two settlers. These buildings will not adversely affect the happiness rating of the town. Although they cost a bit more in resources than the shacks, they are the mainstay of settler housing.
Wood
This resource can be gained in various ways. Build a wood shack and employ up to three settlers. The wood hut has to be built near trees and when those trees have all been used, you will need to build another wood hut in another location. Lumber mills can be unlocked in the store later in the game. You will have to build a lumber mill eventually in order to build bridges and span the various rivers that cross through the maps.
Your hero (or any other character) can also harvest wood by having them hack away at the large logs lying on the ground. Simply drag a settler onto the log and they will begin chopping it up. This is a quick way to increase your wood resources if your loggers are moving slowly. Also, be sure to have your hero wander around the map and pick up all of the piles of wood that are lying around!
Let's Begin
In any area of the game, you will have to have all of the main resources. Food, water, gold and wood. Your first goal should be to build a well and then employ at least one person at a farm, one person at a wood hut and one person at the mine. This will ensure that the resources are coming in as you use them for building. Have your hero collect the resources on the ground, but don't collect the food unless you absolutely need to. Save it for emergencies.
To get people to move to your town, simply build housing. A shack will bring one person and a log cabin will bring two new residents. Employ the newcomers as soon as they arrive to maintain the town's happiness rating as well as ensure enough food and resources for everyone. Building must be done slowly and with care.
The main issue with adding more settlers to your town will be the food supply. Building a granary will increase your food storage amount by ten. Building a windmill will increase the production of the farm, allowing you to grow more food faster. Upgrading the food that the farm grows can also help keep your town in good eats! Remember, a farm will be the most productive when fully staffed. Build additional granaries if you are growing more food than you can store and build additional farms if food is short. Keep in mind that farms use water so be sure to build extra wells or water towers as needed.
THE QUESTS
There are so many different quests and side quests that it would be nearly impossible to list them all here. Many of them come up randomly and depend on your choices as the game progresses. There are however a series of basic quests in the beginning of the game that are important to master to learn the techniques you'll need to succeed.
Food For Thought
1) Build a farm
2) Deliver 22 units of food to Logan James
Talk to Logan James for your first quest. In exchange for 22 bushels (units) of food he will give you the plans to build the granary. You must build a well first to have water for the farm, then go ahead and build the farm. Add a shack nearby to have a settler move to your town and work on the farm. Once you have 22 units of food, give them to Logan and he'll give you the plans for the granary.
My Mine
1) Give 100 gold to Evan Wilkins
2) Build a mine on the secret gold vein
Evan Wilkins is standing to the north of your town. Talk to him and give him 100 wood and he will show you a gold vein that you can mine. AFter the quest, he'll stick around. Have him repair the wood hut and then you can put him to work harvesting wood. You will need to build a shack for him to live in or else he will refuse to work.
Golden Opportunity
1) Talk to Fremont Auren
2) Give Fremont 100 gold
3) Build a log cabin
Talk to Fremont Auren, who is standing by the sign at the entrance to your town. He needs 100 gold to help his sister with her debts and promises to give you the plans to the log cabin in exchange for the gold. Once you've build the cabin, Fremont and his sister will both return to the town to live (in that cabin) and work wherever you chose to employ them.
Hope River Refugees
1) Talk to Israel Creedy
2) Deliver 50 units of food to Israel for the refugees
This quest can take some time to complete. In order to have 50 units of food, you'll more than likely need two farms and several granaries. You don't want to give all of your food away and leave nothing for your town, so be sure you have enough storage for 60-70 units of food. Once you collect the extra food, talk to Israel and give it to him.
Keeping the Peace
1) Unlock the Sheriff's office from the store
2) Build a Sheriff's office
In order to build the Sheriff's office, you'll need to have 15 other buildings completed first. Take your time with this quest and build up your town slowly. When you can afford it, build the Sheriff's office and hire a few guns. This will give you credit for completing the quest as well as prevent the Copperhead bandits from attacking the town.
There are a LOT more quests and mini quests to unlock throughout the game. Here are some tips and suggestions to help you along the way.
1) Anytime you buy from the "store" you are using wood, gold and experience points. Just buy the necessary items to keep you afloat.
2) Water makes the world go round so you want the well and the water tower to support your town, your farms and to help fight fires.
3) A farm requires 4 workers so make sure you have 4 there for full production. Each worker at the farm gives 2 to 3 food each harvest so use the granary and upgrade the food. Add a ranch as soon as you can.
4) If you need extra guns build a Saloon first and hire them for $100 each (cheaper and they don't eat).
5) Remember the hero doesn't die so let him shoot the bandits. He will revive himself and continue fighting.
6) Let the quests sit until your farms produce enough food with a little extra in storage. Leave the bushes and fish alone except when your people need it or in the event of a drought or famine.
7) Build the mines and have them staffed. You can also go around finding the little pockets of gold to help you build up your stores.
8) You can put a wood shack and staff it at each forest area. Build a lumber mill when you can, but continue to use wood shacks I found if you staff the lumber mill you don't get as much wood. Your hero can also go around cutting fallen logs.
9) During the side quests that involve fighting off bandits, remember that your hero may die, but he or she will regenerate and get back up to fight again. If you lose all of your hired guns, you will fail the quest. Keep at least one hired gun out of harms way. Even if your hero dies repeatedly, eventually you will take care of the bandits and solve the quest.
10) This is not a game you can rush through at all. Take your time! There are a lot of little quests involved that help you gain experience.
11) You can reach areas and items in the rivers by walking into the water at the sloping bank spots. They look like little boat launch ramps and allow your characters to enter the stream. This is important during the "cow skull" mini and to access resources hidden in the waterways.
12) Make use of the many save slots for your game. If you're going to try something risky, save your game first so you can go back if it doesn't work out!
13) Hire gunslingers from the saloon instead of the Sheriff's office. They only cost 100 gold. (They also do not need homes built for them nor do they eat!)
14) Make sure you hire a Sheriff once your town is up and running to keep bandits away.
15) For the mysterious honey quest, you need to build ten flower pots that have the word "bee" in them. That will unlock the beehives for you!
There are some really good tips here. I wish I knew some of them over the weekend...it would have saved me some time and spared me an agrument with my husband for playing WWII so much...LOL.

Thanks for some of the tips. This game hopefully will get a Walk through. I love it but it is a lot harder then the first WW.

Great game... after the boulders are removed from the railroad tracks is there a particular place to set up the new house, also is there a particular spot to make the new outpost and how many buildings/resources constitute a new outpost? Thanks!
Posted by: Mindy at April 2, 2008 07:34 PM
there are I believe three quest or side quest to get the Outpost. Which is just the Wagon Train station rebuilt.
Spoilers!
You have the Farming quest which you have to build 2 farms and one ranch and tow gran structures. After you do so you click on the old beat up platform click the picture that pops up and you get the rebuilt Out Post.
You also have a mining outpost quest. You need three mines. And there is a forest quest. Three wood huts and a lumber mill. All with the same conclusion a rebuilt wagon train station. You can upgrade later to be a train station.

Great tips so far! Any thoughts on how to complete the Gatekeeper quest? I have half a key and one swimming pool still to search yet it seems inaccessible and I cannot build a bridge to reach it. How is this one completed?

I am so stuck. Does anyone know what the trick is to the side game with the guy that keeps buying up all the buildings? Help!
Posted by: Oslo at April 6, 2008 12:01 PM
Ok here is the trick for the greedy landlord level . Build a lot of shacks, nothing but shacks as soon as he takes them built another one, and have the new workers who replace the old ones because of starvation built their own shacks. Also buy a few wells, because he will take your well sooner or later and that means you have a farm problem worse then it already was.
He never takes the mine and very rarely takes the farm and he will take your wood hutch sometimes and he will take your cabin. Replace the well but replace everything else with shacks. Wait a minute about the wood hut and the farm. We will get to that later. But not to worry because all he is mainly taking is those cheap shacks. Line them up like a parking lot.
Now forget about it and just keep your eye on the food. All of the workers will never leave, I find the food level at 2 or 3 will hold some. You will need only 3 to4 workers for the hut, farm and mine all together for now. You have to keep mine the farm and the wood hut going. People leave who cares, You will always have enough food even if it says zero and you will always be able to have 3 workers.
You want one worker at the wood hut. One or two alternating between the mine and the farm. Now go for a FAST walk because this is where the trick is forget about what is happening, just keep your eye on the food, pick a berry do not go on a treasure hunt. You will be wasting time. If the guy calls in the deed and it takes you to what he took the property build another shack and continue on your walk toward the northwest. I say do this as soon as you can.
You will run into two bandits standing together guarding a clearing, kill them. That is why I say get to the walk as soon as you can because you know your hero never does he naps and the it might take a few minutes to kill the 2. That is all of the bandits you will encounter.
Go into the clearing and eureka! there is a new mine! and a few little veins. It is yours now. Open it up and start employing new people who are replacing the ones that are leaving. Within a few mintues you should have that mine fully employed and the original mine should be about 400 when this happens . Just keep on building shacks when one is taken and also the new employess live in the abandoned ones. Do not start a new settlement were the new mine is.
Walk further to your west and you will find a forest. Open a wood hut if your original is taken and fully employ it.
The game seems to have no idea about the new operations you started. You can start a farm there too if need be . But I never had to. Within a few minutes you are racking in money and wood and you can replace property with no problems and still make enough money fast enough to get to 1200.
Now this is important. The end comes pretty fast. Make sure your hero makes it back to the original mine because that is the only one that will be attacked. You will need him to ward off the bandits who will try to take it in the end after you gave over the 1200 dollars. Not to worry . Make sure you have the mine fully employed.
If you have a new wood hut going on on the west side no worry about wood. You are still making a lot of money from the secret mine you own. So when the bandits come for one last push you will have enough supplies to keep one of your workers rebuilding the mine while the bandits are shooting at it and your hero is taking a nap. I say keep the mine employed because 2 of the workers will not help keep repairing it, they will walk away until you wake up and start fighting again. One will stay behind and repair. This is not really a long fight and within a few you kill the bandits and cleared the leval. Oh there are little veins all over the place on that level get a worker to harvest them because it brings your total to 1200 even faster. By the time you have the new mine going you will have ample amount of employees to do what you want because remember you now have the farm working at full so there is no problem with the food anymore.
Apparently the developers of the game either gave us break in this level or thought no one would try to kill the 2 bandits. Because once you get the west side of the level working you are on the clear. Just make sure only to built shacks and one extra well so you can replace them and keep at least 3 to 4 workers maintaining the mine, farm and wood while you are fighting off the two bandits.

Thank you Lisa! Another question: I have unlocked the train tracks and have no idea how to build them. I am at the level where I had to build a Town Hall and employ a mayor and build train tracks, but how? I clicked on the outpost and it wont let me upgrade it either.....HELP!

I was reading through all these great hints and can't find my problem. I think someone else has already posted this issue but no response. How do you complete the gatekeeper quest? I've only found 1/2 a key and searched all swimming holes for the other half. There is one swimming hole that I can't get to, though. Any help with that second half of the key would be great! I can't move forward - all other quests are done.

I am stuck at the bridge defense level, did anyone complete that? I managed to build a bridge, but only to one of the islands, and it won't let me build other bridges than that!

I have been playing this game for a few days now and absolutely love it. I've run into a problem close to the end (I think) and can not for the life of me figure it out.
I'm at the stage where I need to build the railroad but it is still locked and I don't have enough points to unlock it. I can't find any more ways to get points. I've built at least one of everything. Any idea if I missed something earlier in the game or any suggestions on getting more points.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

After the new outpost/wagon station is built you will see a icon when you click on the new station along with a picture of food, gold and wood, click the other icon and it will upgrade to the railroad if you have it.
Posted by: lisa at April 8, 2008 09:42 AM
Oh and Oslo and Trish, Sometimes I hate to say this you have to start over, If you do not have those freaking experience points you have to go back and make sure you upgrade correctly so you will not get stuck. It happened to me. It is very important the order you upgrade. I find that you can get money and wood but if you make a mistake in the way you upgrade it is fatal mistake . And I find if you are stuck and nothing works that is the problem. Go back to your save point. Oslo I forgot to ask you did you do the animal round up yet? That might be your problem if you haven't. You have to build 3 ranches, each with a different animal. After a while you will see a horse. lead him to a well and you will be able to get some expreience points to upgrade the railroad.
Posted by: lisa at April 8, 2008 10:03 AM
Gwen go around to all the little water holes the right one will say something to you. The one I had a problem getting to I do not recall how I got there. But believe me it was not that hard because would never had found it. lol You might have to blast some rocks in the water and walk up to the area through the water and then get the key. You will only have a problem with just one key. I do remember that. If I recall that level there is a nice surprise. If you go to a area where there is 3 skulls that look like they are in a inclined square I believe it is on the top pf the map, build a well in that square.
Posted by: lisa at April 8, 2008 10:20 AM
Biz that is one of the quests you need to bring as big as posse as you can. it is not a very hard one but a pain You get to the town they tell you their problem.
Emply the people who are already there. the most important thing is to keep the the mill open. Right off the bat you vcan start building the first bring. Send a worker not the hero to buld the first bridge.. Actually use the worker all of the time to build all of the bridges. I take him from the gold mine and use him when we get enough money and lumber. That way when he is finished he goes back to work. I like doing that instead of using the hero, who is wasted building a bridge while he should be fighting and you have to wait for the hero to finish and bring him back, So always use a worker. There is fish too. if they get hungry just use the worker to get a little fish, treasure and wood, So your worker will grab them after If you get attacked make sure you get the employer of the mill to repair. But you are not going to have that problem because you have a lot of hire gunslingers with you and your hero. They never got close enough to the mill to do harm. I find those bandits get killed pretty fast. if you use at least 2 gunslingers on them.
Remember there s a icon that looks like a cabin that you have to press when making a bridge so it will turn around to fit. If you push the icon and it still does not fit anyway you are looking at the wrong island to cross to.

Can anyone help! In Sandbox when you have built a town and completed the three main quests from the outpost, what do you do next. I have three outposts, farming, mining and wood now I am back at my main town with all buildings built, is this the end of the game. Cannot find any other main or sub quests or puzzles. Have used all the timber and gold in this town. Do we now have to do another map? Thanks

Okay, maybe somebody can help me with this problem. I do the refugee side quest, and as soon as they come back to town, I completely run out of food, no matter how much I have or how many farms. Any thoughts? Do I need to have ranches in place before doing this quest?
Posted by: Jennifer at April 11, 2008 09:09 AM
Sandy. Sometimes you will never find him again. Once he is gone, usually you will not be able to complete the quest. But here is a hint so next time you play the game or if you happen to see him again. He likes to work with animals So employ him at the place where animals are at.

Forget about that bridge. You have to go under it. I I believe you have to blow up some rocks, the water. I am not 100% sure how to get around to the other side because I did it so long ago. But I am 100% certain you do go over the bridge. So look around the map and look for how to go under the bridge. And that is how you have to do it. Go to sandlot.com forums they have lots of tips

Hi! I am oh so very frustrated at the moment! I am up to the quest where you have to build an outpost and repair the old one. However I haven't got a farming quest (I have 2 farms, 1 ranch and 2 granneries). And am on limited experience points. Have blown up the boulders and built a log cabin for those people. Have I missed something??? Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers,

I have the same problem Susan has .... I built a bridge, went to the slop and into the river but I can't seem to blow up the rocks that block my way to the skull : can't put the dynamite in the water and on the top it doesn't do anything... Please help.
Posted by: Isabelle at April 13, 2008 09:21 AM
Hi Noni!
Hereīs a tip for you. Tornado quest is a bit difficult, but do these things: donīt grow your population too big (keep an eye for the town happiness page). Slowly as you get wood and gold, build a hotel and start to destroy the shacks you probably made at start. Get a few luxuries, gazebo, fountain etc. And upgrade your farms and ranches to raise pigs etc (you need to buy these from the store and then click your farms and choose another food or animal to raise!). That did it for me. And repaire your buildings if they are damaged. Also building food storages, trading post and a bank will help, but you need patience to get that far. Always keep looking the town page and see what things are increasing and decreasing the town happiness!
Posted by: Cisco at April 13, 2008 09:29 AM
Hello, Noni I just finished tornado quest and it took me awhile to figure it out but the one thing that I did was make sure and have two save spots for it . What I did was saved the game along the way and then when I relized that I had messed up some where cuz I ran out of wood and gold then icould always save the one that I think I messed up on and go back to the one where I have resources again, also what I did was only had a few people to start and built the trading post and found all the gold mines and built them even if I did not have people to work them always save your game after you have made an improvement that way if you mess up you can go back and do something different. The solution I had with the bandits was that I put my hero first out by the gate to kill all them first and then I bought dynamite and was able to get rid of the ones that was behind boulders after they were all gone then I put my hero out by the upper right corner where the bandits kept showing up. Also make sure you build a saloon or sherriffs office I built the sheriffs office that way I did not have to deal with drunks at this time, get a couple gunslingers to station around your town and then the bandits will leave your town alone. Also buid a general store so you can buy dynamite for blowing up mines that might need it or to get into where some of the bandits are. Always save and like I said I kept two diferent saves so I could always go back and redo something if I messed up,which I had to do several times. I hope this helps you. I still need to know what I am missing in gunslinger cuz I have all the quests but the mad russian and can't get going anywhere else. Thank you and good luck.

HELP!!!
I am at the quest where you have to escourt the bandid safely through, which I have done. We met the sheriff at the end who say he will take it from there, but I am with to escourt him to another town. He will not move and will only say OK, have looked and looked around and can not see what to do, walked my men all ove the screen collected everything, well I think I have, but my bandid stays with the sheriff. How do I finish this quest.....BTW looked for Sandlot.com but can not find it so put in sandlot games....no forum there

Go to sandlot.com then go to top of page to neighborhood, click it. A new screen opens up and to your left it will say game forums click that and a icon for game forum pops up. Click that. believe a link is right on this page.
Posted by: lisa at April 14, 2008 10:15 AM
He stays with the sheriff and that should be the end of it If you are talking about the one they escorts the gunslinger and has to protect him. The last encounter with bandits you should have is right after you cross the river. After that you see a good sheriff. Hand him over and that should be the end.

Help what is and outpost? I have to build one and when i click on the old station nothing happens.
Posted by: Berns at April 14, 2008 11:02 AM
I'm having problems with the Outpost. I know where the platform is, but I know there are three quests you have to do before you can actually build it. I think I've done everything else (there are no more people with ! above their heads). Is there something you have to do to get the quests to start? The only two quests I have left right now are both "build an outpost." Thanks in advance! Any help is really appreciated.
Posted by: danielle at April 14, 2008 12:50 PM
Hi, here is a tip for you all about the OUTPOST. You need to find the old outpost platform and just click on it, thereīs a "button" which allows you to upgrade it. Thatīs it, very simple. And always check your upgrade choices from the store page, you need experience points to get more expensive things and upgrades, so use them wisely. Good luck you all, i already finished the game!
Posted by: Cisco at April 14, 2008 04:29 PM
I know where the Outpost Platform is, but when I click it, I can only see the picture in the barrel on the left-hand side...there is no upgrade or build button.
Posted by: danielle at April 14, 2008 05:22 PM
Hello again, about the OUTPOST: Danielle, you need to walk next to the outpost/platform and then the button appears (it saids rebuild the outpost etc, and it costs 140 gold + 140 wood). If you donīt know how to get there because you canīt use the bridge, you need to blow up the boulder with dynamite (boulder is there in upperleft part of the map, northwest you may say). Hope this helps, finally?

how do you get past the level where you have to find out who is hte Mad Russians spy? And ou have to figure out who is lier?
Posted by: amy at April 15, 2008 03:03 PM
I am going to give the answer to the spy question, So do not read anymore because a spoiler is coming.
The answer can also be found on Sandlot.com
The spy is the women named Candence or something that starts with a C I did it so long ago I forgot her name but it does start with a C. It always is the same person no matter how many times you play the level.
Posted by: lisa at April 15, 2008 07:42 PM
Theresa go to Sandlot.com game forum. Me and a few other people answered over there.
I will say this bring as many people you can in your posse and you will be fine. You can make more then one sheriff and saloon in your town if you can make one or two more just to get the gunslingers and deputies. Have them positioned all around the boundaries of downtown and on the side yard next to the Town hall, the bandits never got close enough to even shot at the town hall except once. Make sure you have the blacksmith to built the bank and make the key and you will be fine

Hi it seems the Outpost is a pain. A lot of people did not even know what the outpost was. I have done it, but a few times it just did not work right sometimes no matter what I did. Ok I will tell you what you have to do, If you were already able to make the station/outpost and cannot make the train station I will bet you do not have enough resources to build it. Just because you have the experience to buy it and bought it. You still have to have the money to upgrade to the train station. Also do you have a person employed at the outpost? I am not sure if it makes a difference but try.
I have to be honest I think there is a bug in the outpost quests I even went to Sandlot.com and asked about that quest and the cave quest. In that quest sometimes I am not able to get enough dynamite. There are Quest that I know I completed but the game will not acknowledge it. So I am stuck at the level or I have to repeat it because the explanation point is still above a head. Still no answer.
To use the forum I am not sure if you have to subscribe. It is free to subscribe in any case. I do know you have to subscribe to be able to post But to just read I am not sure. Just subscribe to it.
To get to the forum
Click neighborhood on top of the screen at Sandlot.com. You will be directed to another screen and you will see game forums over to the left. Click that and a blue Icon comes up that states game forums click that. I feel it is very important that people with this game have access to the forum. Extra levels for the sandbox games are over there, and other important info.
Posted by: lisa at April 16, 2008 03:12 PM
More hints for building an OUTPOST.. Again, you need to find and walk to the old platform (near the tracks) and click it, there will be button there for building an outpost if you have enough gold and wood. Naturally hire someone to work in outpost! You also need experience points and check the stores selection about the railroad tracks. After you have all these and you have pushed the platforms outpost button, there will be more button choices there later in game. For example a button (picture of a train) will turn your wagon trail to railway!
If you donīt have enough experience points you need to gain some more by finishing all other quests, also you get points if you for example build three ranches/farms and raise/grow three different types of animals/food - then you get a master badge as a farmer and some experience points.
Posted by: Cisco at April 16, 2008 03:37 PM
When I type in "sandlot.com"or "www.sandlot.com", it comes up to a page that says "March 14, 2004 THINK Subscription has acquired Sandlot Corporation", and then redirects me to "http://www.thinksubscription.com/". This is a corporate page for a software company, with no links for forums, subscriptions, etc, only corporate customer info (like their users conference and corporate goals). Would it be possible to cut-n-paste the exact addy from your web browser?
The outpost in my game is done. It is a train station with an employee, but still has wagons running through instead of trains. I thought that it was maybe because of the "rickety bridge" that nobody can walk across, but the wagons go over it just fine.
I also went to establish the farming outpost, and cannot get out of that area. My Hero's bubble is empty, with just an "Okay" button that doesn't do anything. Under "quests", it shows one item unfinished, but has 2 lines of text typed over one another, so they are impossible to read. Can anyone let me know the exact objectives of tis quest so I can finish it?
For those of you stuck in Tornado town. One thing I did not realize for a while is that under "TOWN" (where u can check your stats), it shows how many buildings that you have. They are divided into "Town Buildings" and "Luxury Buildings". Once I had 25 "town buildings" not including the luxury ones, the quest was finished (I just added more wells). Hope this helps someone!

Posted by: Laura at April 16, 2008 07:55 PM
About the Outpost quest: The "build" button would not come up for me, so out of frustration I started the game over. I'm not sure what I did differently this time (nothing that I'm aware of, but apparently something), but this time when I got to the Outpost quest, the "build" button came up. I think it must have been some sort of glitch.

the quest is finished you meet the blacksmith that is going to fix the key. Good luck !

I'm stuck in Tornedo Valley but my problem is not the 25 buildings, it's to get to the 120 happiness. I have built the gazebo, the saloon, the flowers
and so on. What building didn't I think of ? Any tricks to get through that quest ? Thanks a lot in advance and good game to all.
Posted by: michele at April 16, 2008 11:31 PM
I have almost finished the game
1. I can not get the bonus sheep
2. 200 Happiness is difficult - Building a town house and throwing a party and reducing the taxes will shurely increse happiness temporarly.I tried making multiple copies of flower pots church, priest - Then threw a Party - 188 MAX
I think I will try more trading posts and saloons.
3. I can not get the mistrious animal the surprize also.(Awards section)
Key points - Tricky Points
1. Upgrade the station
click the station - you will see a small portrate of the station - CLICK ON IT
2. 2nd Key - Build a well in the three dead cow zone.
3. Missing treasure quest - I tried two options
a. Build one church
b. Blew the old wood house on the Right hand south corner (one of them worked)
4. Use only the HERO to kill the Bandits and forget the rest

COW Quest is simple you find the 4 cows
5 one is in water. Build a bridge on the island on right hand bottom of the underwater skull.
now you can enter the water cnd blow the barriers and reach the cow skull 5.

For the people who are getting stuck on sections where the character's won't move or when building the outpost, if you do not have a photo of a new outpost button to the right once you click on the outpost, save your game under another slot and shut the game down and reopen it. That fixed the bugs in mine and I was once again able to move around. Though I had to restart the game twice because of the bugs in it, too! I love this game, and have been waiting for part 2 to come out but the bugs can be frustrating.

In the end, getting town happiness to 200.. I killed all the bad sheriffs and gunslingers (take them to the north where the bad guys keep hanging) and then i hired the good sheriff. Building ten flowerpots gives you a chance to build a beehive and then you get a bear. Destroy all the shacks etc and build only hotels, donīt let your population grow too big (i used only 20 person at the end). Build town bells, statues, gazebos, outhouses and fountains, donīt get any taxes from citizens and give them a party (from town hall), then you soon get your 200 points of happiness. Did it for me! Always remember import wood, food, gold (using your outpost) and trade them in trading shop to whatever you need.

Posted by: Kbob at April 19, 2008 09:30 AM
kbob Don't build a farm. You need a trading post and maybe a mine, but there should be enough gold and wood hanging around without a mine to buy food from the trading post. Also make sure you build more grain keepers then you need. So if it calls for 35 make sure you have capacity for 40.

Posted by: Lucky_Strike at April 22, 2008 05:52 PM
OK, here's the deal with the last swimming hole, where you find the other half of the key for the Gatekeeper quest: you have to go THROUGH the river. Find the place where a path leads down a slope and into the river. Walk along the river bed (you can now also get those chests in the fish pond). Walk up the other side to the swimming hole, and there you go!
Posted by: Dani at April 22, 2008 08:07 PM
THE ANSWER TO YOUR KEY PROBLEMS:
on the quest where many people are only finding 1/2 the key this is what you need to do. Destroy the bridge that has you over on the "bandit's side" making sure to leave one at least one person on either side of the bridge. Have the person on the "badit's side" of the bridge go down into the water (the down ramp into the water is on the left hand side) have him/her then WALK THROUGH THE RIVER to the other watering hole and he/she can just walk up in to it from the river. the bridge MUST be destroyed to do this or it will block your path. after you get the other 1/2 of the key you have to then re-build the bridge. hope this helps :)

Hello This is a huge spoiler for the last unknown award so beware. To get the award you must get three gunslingers at the same time that look alot like the Lone Ranger. You may have to build three saloons or so. I seen the first one with only one saloon but did not realize that I had to have three of them and so I did not get the award until I needed a whole lot of gunslingers at the end of the game and poof there I got it after I had three of them. They are so cute too when they shoot they cover their eyes. Good Luck all.
Posted by: Patty at April 23, 2008 12:29 PM
I found that out when I was getting happiness points off for gunslingers. Turns out there are good gunslingers and bad gunslingers. I had thought all of them were the same, The good one wears a blue outfit. I am not sure if there is more then one good gunslinger though.

Posted by: Karlene at April 23, 2008 04:09 PM
Karlene, that 15 of "something" you mention is experience. You need to do things to gain experience, build buildings, complete quests etc. The more of that you do the more experience you earn.

How to prevent people from getting drunk plz
Posted by: zezo at April 25, 2008 11:01 AM
Make sure they have a job. As soon as you see that hat turn yellow that means someone is unemployed Find them a job right away. One time I fell asleep at the computer and I had a town full of drunks. That is when I found out if you really do not watch out you will have drunks you cannot make sober So as soon as a person is unemployed find them a job. And also make sure they have a place to live. If you do not find a place they are the drunks you can't get sober.

To get rid of the drunks, hire a sheriff. Then select the sheriff and right-click a drunk. That will send the drunk to the slammer where they become automatically sober and normal citizens again.

I can't get my population to go above 40. Any ides? I have empty homes but no one will move in.
Posted by: mary at April 25, 2008 05:04 PM
You really do not have to have sheriff just have a deputy. And fair warning some drunks you will not get be able to sober up if your town has a lot of them. Now in the first version of WW a citizen could sober a drunk up if there is a church. I am not sure if you can do that in this version.

Ok.. I've about had it with this game. It's most frustrating. Not sure real life is this complicated. I am so stuck at "Bandit Base" I have no idea what to do or where to do it. I still trying to find the other 1/2 of the key and I can't seem to get anywhere I need to be. I got the well built in the cow graveyard.. Must be good water. I got the rusty key from the shed and now I'm just walking in circles.. what do I do and where do I go now?
Posted by: frustrated at April 25, 2008 06:29 PM
When you built that well no key appeared? Are you sure you built it in the right place? Also are you trying to get into the gate of the fort or that gate of the cave? You need two keys. One has to be made in the save the town Hall Quest. That is the key to the fort. The other key you just have to find it. Please make sure you built the well in the right place. I I stumbled upon the the place with the cow skulls and dug a well by mistake and got one half of the key and I wasn't at the quest yet, So the key is there. Don't give up. THe game can be maddening, but that level you have to be missing something. Wait to you get to Tornado Alley.

I'm stuck on "White Person for the Job" There are two gates and I have no idea where or how to find the keys. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Posted by: Debi at April 26, 2008 06:33 PM
Yes, Lisa the key did appear, but I was just shocked that I found it by sheer luck. Who would have thought to put a well in a graveyard?
Thanks for your help.

hi i am having a heck of a time trying to get the escort mission complete.. the one where you have to protect the bad gunslinger so he will give you the info you need on the mad russian.. my problem is that my posse can't get across the river to him.. i have looked everywhere and i can not find another way across the river.. i dont have any gold or lumber to build another bridge to get across.. so please help me with this quest.. thank you.. grace
Posted by: grace at April 26, 2008 08:50 PM
I'm just about done with the game, it's very challenging! I've got all the awards except for the final treasure. I guess there are 2 hidden Treasure requests. I built the well, found the key, opened the door to the mine. Found another key and 600 gold & wood, and plans to a fountain? Built a fountain, then a water tower, then a well, nothing happened. Any clues as to what I missed?

ESCORTING THE GUNSLINGER TO SAFETY...
What I found to be the easiest way was to round the two up together and drop them to the location.. just keep them moving. As long as they are moving, they won't fight, if they don't fight, they don't lose life, and the bad guys will only follow so far.
Then when you get to the end, the sheriff will tell you, you have to go back and kill the bandits. Leave the gunslinger with the sheriff and send your hero.. keep letting him die and it will take time, but he will kill them all. Then have your hero go back to the sheriff.. he will tell you what to do next.

How do i kill the mad russian i've blown up everything and he just keeps gaining his life back PLEASE HELP
Posted by: Angelwings5982 at April 28, 2008 09:49 PM
Well you don't kill him, you capture him. I believe you are dealing with the imitation Russian. He becomes a gunslinger for you and he never dies just like your hero. He will not build anything all he does is help you fight.. very helpful, actually. You also get Mr Wrong and Right as gunslingers too Now the last chapter you capture him and the game is over.

I keep running out of food. I'm looking for the cow skulls and completed the outpost. Urgh. I have 3 farms ranches, capacity for 100, my water is fine. I can't figure it out. I've got pigs, pumpkins. Someone help me please.
Posted by: Cindy at April 29, 2008 03:54 PM
Exactly where are you at in the game. And how many people do you having living in your town? And how many people are working on each farm? I will give you a few tips in the meantime. First get rid of the Pumpkins.
Did you find the the skull near the outpost? You have to blow up some rocks to get to it. That is usually the one people are stuck at
The game is actually has a built in scale. It rates certain things higher then others. Not in points but in efficiency.
With the farms Corn is the best plant to grown, wheat is the second best and Pumpkins are the worst.
I only grow pumpkins to get the food varity points. or the Food king or Farm King award, whatever it is called.
Or for the heck of it because they are pretty, But never as the sole staple to feed town.
The ranch you did better, Cows are the best, Pigs are the second best and the chickens are the worst. I thought the chickens would be better because they give both eggs and meat. But no they
are the worst crop to grow.
100 is a huge capacity how many people do you have living in the town? Off hand I would say convert the ranches and farms to cattle if you can and get rid of those pumpkins. Also how much water do you have? I have found adding water ups the productivity and adding a extra worker.
There is a formula for how many workers on the farms to how many people living in the town. And how many farms you have to have to feed a certain amount of people.
After you get 3 workers on a farm build another grainery. Also make sure you have the smokehouses for the ranches. A cattle ranch and a farm that produces anything but Pumpkins amd storage will feed a nice size town. Get rid of the pumpkins, the problem is that you have a town full of pumpkins but no one likes them.

I am stuck on Outpost Gold. I've built the three mines and fixed up the outpost to ship out the gold, but I cannot get 500 gold. I've mined everything (including panning for gold in the water), and picked up all the gold. What the heck else can I do?

PLEASE HELP

Posted by: ad at April 29, 2008 07:53 PM
Tiramisu. You have to put workers on the gold mine and then they'll raise the gold for you. so build
3 little huts and 3 people will come.
Posted by: michele at April 29, 2008 09:24 PM
Michele, thank you! It's so obvious now that you say it!
Ad, you don't keep the dynamite from the quest once you return to normal play. You have to buy some from a General Store when you get back to town (if you've built one). Then select a citizen and the dynamite icon should appear on the lower right hand side. Select it, then drop the dynamite icon as close to the target as it will allow.
Posted by: Taramisu at April 29, 2008 09:44 PM
Thanks Tiramisu....I did it....
but now im stuck on the spy games quest.....someone tell me who is the spyyyy....

Can any1 help me i can find Fremont Auren he is not waiting at the entrance to the town ive looked everywhere
Posted by: marianne at April 30, 2008 04:48 AM
Another tip if your farms don't seem to be producing as much food as they should.....make sure your citizens are happy. If you click on the farm, does it say they are unhappy, normal, happy? I had a problem where my citizens were unhappy so not much was being produced. To make them happier you can add things to your town like a saloon, plants, fountain, etc.

Please help. I'm trying to trigger the cow head quest and have fished all of the fish out of the river and ponds. There is still no trigger.
Also, I built three bee hives and still do not have the trigger for Animal Roundup.
Any suggestions or are these just glitches?
Posted by: Christy at May 1, 2008 02:00 PM
Is it possible to build fences? If so, how.
Posted by: Debi at May 1, 2008 05:43 PM
what is animal round-up? I know when you buy 10 flower pots and build a beehive, you'll get a bear. When you build one of everyone source of food, you'll get a horse..
I know that in the store there are 3 empty boxes, if you have beehives one will be honey, if you have 3 farms with pumpkins, one ranch with chickens and one farm with grain you'll get one will be pumpkin pies, what is supposed to be in the last one??
I know I'm missing something! I've finished the game 3x and always missed something.
Posted by: Debi at May 1, 2008 05:54 PM
SPOILER....CONTAMINATED WELLS.
Just go in a cirlce.. start at one well, take that box to the next add it, take that box to the next and so on.
Posted by: Debi at May 1, 2008 05:59 PM
NM about Animal Round-up. Just came from the sandlot site and they explain the entire process.. I had no idea...lol, but it sounds like fun and very challenging.
I hated this not because it was hard, because there is science to this but because You have to go through the motions of listening to all of the clues even if you know the answers. If yu do not you will have start all over. I believe I wrote the answer for this a few weeks ago It is here some place.lol
Posted by: lisa at May 1, 2008 06:39 PM
You get the honey before you get the bear. Just bult the beehives I don't know about the other things you mentioned I finished the game and never thought about building 3 pumpkin farms because they are useless I never use them unless I want the food king award or to build up happiness points for variety points. But I will see if that is so. Interesting. AlI know is that you get sheep. I would go to sandlotgames.com and ask in their forums.
Posted by: lisa at May 1, 2008 06:47 PM
No the only fences I have seen are the ones already built in with the ranch or a non players property. I would like to have paint for the houses and little gardens I think it would add to the game.
Posted by: lisa at May 1, 2008 06:50 PM
Ok, I'm not getting anywhere. I finished the main game bij capturing the bad guys. I couldn't get back to my starting village, eventhough I never finished all the awards and all the buildings.
Also, I never found any animal round-up challenge, how do I get there? And what's that about a cowskull?
Because the main game was finished, I thought I'd get all my awards in sandbox disaster challenge. But I have over 150 food, built 3 beehives (no bear in sight) and have a population of 40 citizens, no awards are given to me! Don't you get them in disaster challenge?
And where do you get experience points in disaster challenge? I can't get any rewards, finished the outpost challenges, so that's it then? I still can't get all the buildings this way!
Please help!
Posted by: Lucky_Strike at May 2, 2008 05:14 AM
In the sandbox you get experience [points every time you pass a disaster level. So if you pass level one you will see your points are more. It goes up to level 6. After that you get no more points. because the game is technically over. I do not believe you get awards in the sandbox level either. I am not sure but it never happened with me. Sand box levels to not travel to the regular game.
To get the animal round up you have to do a specific thing and it has no bearing in the completion of the game. You have to have all of the ranches and selected Mr Wong I believe. A horse will show up at the edge of the town. I believe someone mentions it In any case wen you see him walk him up to a well like you would a person and let him drink That triggers the animal round up, which I did not enjoy until I found out the trick.

To those who can't build the outpost:
I can't build the outpost before even after reading the post here but I can't solve it. Lastly I realize that you must build another new cabin for Smiths, then you can build the outpost.
To build another new cabin for Smiths, you can find any place which is far away from the road, they will accept it.

Hi all, I find that just assiging 2 villagers to each farm works best. Less people to feed and 2 is enough to keep it producing enough food. I am also stuck at the Investigate the gold mine on the other side of the river. I can't buy and dyanmite to blow up the fence......bugger!! I guess I missed something and will have to start again.

I think I am at the end of the game but cannot figur out what to do now.
I have the mad russian and mr. wong back at the main town but do not know what to do next.
Any ideas?
Posted by: Richard at May 4, 2008 01:17 PM
The game will tell you that you have completed it, Did you find the real Russian? If you did that is the end. After that you just can fool around and try to finish side quests you forgot or did not get to.
Posted by: lisa at May 4, 2008 01:35 PM
Go past the bear to the west he is near the banks of the river.

I am on the quest where you have to find the 2 keys. I found them both and now I need to rebuild the bridges I had to destroy. It is telling me I have to have a mill to build a bridge but I already have one and have plenty of wood and gold as well. What am I missing???

I dont know where i am in this game. I'm with Mr. Wong and the Mad Russian. i've completed cakey makey, badit base, gate keeper, tornado valley, snake valley, a well-found treasure, animal roundup, and mad russian. Can someone please tell me what's next? i've been roaming around this place for days. It's getting boring sitting and doing nothing. Please Help. When is the end of this?
Posted by: Totlpeace at May 8, 2008 06:15 PM
I am still unable to finish this game.
I've done everything I can think of apart from make the town happiness sit at 200.
The highest I can get it to is around 160.
There are no more quests to complete, I have a population of 39 working very well, I've chopped down all the trees and dug up all the gold.
I've bought all the stuff in the store and built every building apart from the lowest shack which affects town happiness.
I've got the happy sheriff, I've built the bee hives, I've got the bear, I've even got a horse which arrived when I built all 7 available food producers.
So I think I've done it all but still can't figure out how to finish the game.
Any suggestions?
Posted by: Richard at May 11, 2008 05:22 AM
Where exactly are you at? Did you ever find the REAL mad Russian. The last quest you should have Mr Wong and The phony mad Russian help you, You have to build a bridge and infiltrate where the real Russian is hiding. Did you do that yet?
Posted by: lisa at May 11, 2008 01:44 PM
Hi Lisa, I am in the town where the four cow skulls are in the dried up watering hole.
I am with Mr. White and a guy claiming to be the Mad Russian, whether or note he is genuine I cannot tell you.
I must admit I did not read every word of every dialogue box that came up throughout the game.
These are the quests that are listed as complete in the quest window:
Bandit Base
Gate Keeper
Mad Russian Scramble
Tornado Valley
A Well-Found Treasure
Snake Valley
Cakey Makey

Ok, before I finish this game for the 3rd time, I'd like to get all the awards this time.
I only have 3 to go and I'm not sure how to get them:
- Purchase all locked items. Are those the ones at the Blacksmith, the General Store, the fortification and traintracks? Or am I missing one?
- Complete both hidden treasure quests: I have the cow-skull one. But what is the other one? The searching for the key in Gunslinger Gulch? I'd like to be sure!
- In the store, 3rd screen, 2nd row, 3rd from above, that award is secret. How do I get this one?
Please help, I'm really working hard on completing this game but I'd like to be sure how to get the awards. Last time I finished the game very sudden and couldn't get back.
Posted by: Lucky_Strike at May 12, 2008 07:10 AM
Hi Did you escort the bad guy to the good sheriff yet without him getting killed? Did you get Mr Wrong yet? See I believe you have to also get Mr Wrong to finish the game. I had Mr Right and I could not finish. I have to check this.Mr Wrong was with me and the phony Russian when I finished the game.
Yes the Russia is a phony, you do not get the real one until the end of the game. Remember some of the quest like Cakey Makey are unnecessary to advance through the game. They help in getting experience points but you can finish the whole games and go back and do some of the side quest.
Posted by: lisa at May 12, 2008 08:28 AM
Tollpeace The game ends when you have both the phony Russian and Mr Wrong with you. You have to infiltrate another bandit base and find the real Russian. The game then tells you it is over.
Posted by: lisa at May 12, 2008 08:38 AM
I have beat the whole game and the only thing that I I have not been able to figure out is an unknown
award. Can anyone give just a little hint and maybe not tell the whole thing??? That would be really cool...
Posted by: Rebecca at May 12, 2008 10:58 PM
This is for Richard. Look at the town option at the top of your screen... Look at all the things that are making the town unhappy... Just eliminate what is making your town happiness so low... You can also choose to throw a parade at the town hall. That raises town happiness for a short period.

I am on the gate keeper quest and when I build a bridge over the water I can't destroy it to go to the second half of the key. I've tried putting the explosive all over the bridge but it doesn't demolish. Can anyone help?
Posted by: Margene at May 13, 2008 12:52 AM
I believe there is a icon on the corner of the picture when you highlight the bridge if you want to destroy it. Just like the other buildings in the game that you built, do not buy any more TNT. If it is not there you cannot destroy it.
