Dragon Wars

It’s not easy surviving a world filled with magical beasts, skeleton armies and fire breathing dragons. Each quest you embark on is filled with the dangers of being roasted on open flames or even devoured by beasts as big as a mountain. This game is not your typical Dungeon’s and Dragons game... it’s much more. You can’t simply role a dice to escape your enemies.

I hope you’re up for a challenge, and I do mean challenge, because Dragon Wars by Zynga will keep your mouse clicking with 2D and 3D quests. The game is available to both Facebook and MySpace users.

The game is not hard to start. You begin with a sum of 3,000 gold, and players are encouraged to purchase weapons and armor for their first quest, which is to steal a dragon’s egg. This quest is 2D, and there are other 2D and 3D quests you can unlock as your game progresses, each getting harder to complete.

The goal of the game is to build an alliance by inviting your friends to join you in your quests that range from raiding a tomb to fighting hordes of skeletons, harpies and zombies. If that’s not enough you can also pick a fight with your friends and other Dragon Wars users or even challenge the games top players for added bragging rights. Friends are important in this game because the more people you can recruit into your alliance the more powerful your attacks in the 3D quests, more experience points you will gain and higher success rate in finding potions and rare treasures during your quest.

I really enjoyed the 3D quests that add action into the mix. The game loads in a new window and allows players use their mouse pointer to click anywhere in the room they want their warrior to move towards, if the character is near a treasure the pointer turns into a hand allowing players to pick up treasures that range from magic potions to gold or even press a lever to unlock a gate.

When the pointer turns into a sword, click on one of the creatures wandering nearby to engage in battle. While playing, watch your health meter, which can be found over the character’s head and in the bar near the bottom of the screen. Any battle you do in 3D will greatly reduce your stamina, energy and health overall in the game. Not to mention lose any treasure you found. So I suggest doing the easier 3D quests first to find and store any potions before playing the harder 3D quests. The more you play the more quests you can unlock, and each new 3D quest will be even harder than the first.

Gold is used to purchase the things your alliance needs, but it goes as quickly as its earned so another good tip is purchasing land as soon as you can to help build up funds. Each land, depending on size, can earn a small amount of gold daily

Another way to speed up success is earning favor points. Dragon Wars is free to play, but those who don’t have the patience to wait for favor points can purchase the points with a credit card or PayPal account. The cost is $5 for 21 favor points, $10 for 42 favor points, $20 for 85 favor points, $50 for 215 favor points or $100 for 440 favor points. You can also choose to participate in surveys or apply for offers from Zynga sponsors for favor points.

This game seems to have a healthy community with practically no limit as to how many people you can recruit or challenge in the game. The only things I can find that will slow your gaming experience down are the 3D quests. Make sure you have the most recent version of a flash program plug-in installed on your web browser of choice to play.

So when you’re ready to play, equip your armor, grab your sword and let’s go on a quest in Dragon Wars
