Curse of the Pharaoh: The Quest for Nefertiti Tips & Tricks
Game Article
By Margie Bissainthe
Curse of the Pharaoh: Quest for Nefertiti is part hidden object search, part find-the-differences, and a touch of adventure game all rolled into one. Check out our tips & tricks for a walkthrough of how to beat everything.
GENERAL TIPS
In the "Find the differences" puzzles you must look for subtle differences in both screens. The differences could be something as small as a pot missing a handle to a chest that is of a different color or a small crack on the wall. In other circumstances, things will be added to the scene that are not on the opposite side.
Within each scene you will have other things to look for while you are searching for differences. Each room contains 5 coins that are hidden throughout the scene. You must find all coins or you will not be able to move on to the next level. Coins will always be on both sides of the scene, once you eliminate one from one side the other one will automatically be eliminated as well.
You can use your coins to shop for upgrades and mini games in the store. To access the store just click on the flashing sign and purchase items according to how many coins you have accumulated. If you don't have enough coins to purchase the items you want you can go back to the store at any time.
Once you purchase a mini game, the game will automatically take you to it only once so you can play a round. Once that round is finished, if you wish to play again, you can access your mini games from the main menu. Just select your name and click on the mini games tab to play the games you've purchased.
You do not have to purchase mini games if you don't want to, it will not affect your ability to finish the game. You can purchase as many hints as you can afford if that is what you wish to do.
There are some locks that will appear once you've placed your cursor over it. These locks indicate that an item from your inventory needs to go in that hotspot. The items that you need will be part of the items you click on when you are looking for the differences in the scene. The items you unlock may not always go in a hotspot of the room you found it in.
Once you've unlocked all the locks a secret room will appear. In those rooms you will need to find the items that are in the inventory bar at the bottom of the scene. You will also need to find 5 fragmented pieces of a Pharaoh's mask.
Locks will not disappear even if you've placed the correct item in a hotspot.
If you're stuck in a scene, just click on the map icon and visit another location. Your progress will be saved from where you left off until you return.
If you're stuck and cannot find an item, there are 2 ways in which you can obtain some extra hints. You can purchase extra hints for the cost of 5 coins each, or you can hit Wipi on the head. Wipi is the cute Anubis character that appears on your screen from time to time. If you click on it before it disappears you will earn an extra hint.

SECRET ROOM
SECRET ROOM-LAST LEVEL
Place the scarab's wing on the back wall.
Place the fire extinguisher over both lights in the back and an outline of a statue will appear.
Place the piece of stone in the hole on the wall that is above the scarab.
Place the ankh on the lit symbol on the wall that looks like a parenthesis.
Some symbols will light up on the wall you must duplicate them in order to advance.
This is like a Simon Says game, duplicate the sequence so you can move on to the next part.
Once you've entered a sequence correctly all 4 pieces will light up temporarily, and the next sequence will begin.
The last sequence requires you to remember 7 positions.
I numbered the symbols from 1 to 4 in my head. Then, I wrote them down as they appeared and duplicated the pattern in order to complete the last 2 sequences.
If you make a mistake you will have to start the last sequence over with a new one.
Complete 5 correct sequences and you move on to the last phase.
On the last phase of the game you must click on all the Wipis that appear on stage, but only hit the ones that are facing you.
Wow! Great article! Just one question: the game has two modes, "Easy," and "Hard." Does the hard have different objects and puzzles than the easy (like the Nancy Drew games), or is it just a matter of less time or fewer hints?
Also, the version of the game I got from Bigfish has "automatic hints." If you are taking too long to click on something, a little spark of light will go off in an area of the room where you are supposed to click. This may be near a coin, a piece of the pharoah mask, or one of the items you're searching for.
In addition, at least in the Easy mode, when you are in one of the secret rooms where you have to solve a puzzle, when you hover your cursor over the objects in your inventory, you will get a text clue about how the object can be used, and when you hover your cursor over a hot spot in the room, you will get a text clue about how the puzzle can be solved. You don't get these clues in the regular rooms--only the secret rooms.

I got as far as the secret room in the secondary chamber and I got all the items placed except the boat. I came here for help, because you always seem to have the answers and you say to place the boat at the top under the stage. I have been trying that, even before I came here, and I can't seem to find the right spot. Can you be very specific about where it goes? I've been trying for 2 days. Thanks.

I got all the way to the secret room, saw the outline light up but I couldn't figure out where to put the ankh so I exited. When I tried to go back I couldn't get back into the secret room OR any of the other rooms. Does this mean I have to start all over?????
Posted by: Gamslvr at March 13, 2008 12:13 AM
I had trouble with the boat, too, but I finally realised there is a line of 3 boats near the tiny pyramid models near the bottom of the screen. Yours goes in the missing gap in between two other boats.

I really liked the game. It was easy to understand and play.I love hidden object games. They are relaxing. Sometimes we need a little brain work.

Hi Robin,
I played the game in Hard mode when I wrote the guide. After that I played a few levels in Easy mode and did not really see a difference. My guess would be that in the last few worlds of the game, they give you more details when you place your cursor over an item of interest.
Other than that, everything at that point seemed to be the same. From the amounts of hints to the cost of the mini games.

Gmslover,
Apparently a lot of people have had the same problem as you. It seems there is a glitch in the game and you will have to start over.
Maggie13
Robin is right about where the boat goes. Also, if you have any problems with placing pieces in the future make sure you hold on to the item until you see the lock appear and then release it.
I went back and checked the boat and even though the lock appears next to the other 2 boats as Robin mentioned, the boat actually falls at the bottom of the screen, close to the middle.

Margie B and Robin: Here I am back again. I must be getting blind because I can't find a row of boats or tiny pyramids. Doesn't seem to matter where I click at the bottom - that darn boat won't fall anywhere. Do you mean that it goes under where the lantern was placed or am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks.
Posted by: Maggie13 at March 13, 2008 09:46 PM
Maggie13,
Are you in the Subterranean room? That's where the boat belongs. The boats are actually 2 long colored pieces on the right if I remember correctly.
The beat thing to do is grab the boat from inventory and slowly move your mouse over the right side. As soon as you see the "LOCK" icon appear, click your mouse and the boat should fall in place.Don't go too far in the right corner, look for those 2 long pieces by themselves.
Let me know if that helps.

Thanks Margie B. At least I know I didn't miss something. I probably would have played it over anyway.

Margie B: I'm in the secondary temple in the secret room - level 2. I am really stuck. I got the sun, the moon and the lantern without too much trouble, but that boat is giving me fits.

Maggie 13,
All along I thought you were talking about the boat in World 4.That's probably why you are having trouble finding it :-)
If you look at the top of the screen, you will see on the left the name of the room "Secondary Temple". On the right you will see the amount of coins you have. In the middle of the top row you will see a brown and gold design that has a sharp point which is pointing downwards (That's part of the screen in every puzzle)
That point actually points down on the place in which the boat goes. It goes against the back wall.In front of the stone with the two squiggly lines.
You should be able to get it now and sorry about the confusion :-)

Margie B: My cursor must be cursed because no matter where I place that boat I can't get it to grab. As soon as the lock appears, I click and it just goes back to inventory. I have moved all over that area and still can't get it. I'm beginning to feel very stupid in addition to frustrated.
Thanks for your help,

Maggie 13
Don't feel stupid, it could be a glitch in the game. That did not happen to me in this game but it has happened to me in other games.
If I were you I would start the game over under a different name and maybe choose a different difficulty level. When I've done this in the past it has helped me get through a game.
Fortunately you are only in World 2 and it shouldn't take you that long to catch up to where you are now. Believe me , I did not see too much difference between the hard and easy mode.
Good Luck,
Margie B

Margie B: Thank you so much for your suggestion to play under a different name. I guess I did have a glitch, because when I put the gold mask into place, it slid up and a whole new world opened up to me! I had the sun, lantern and star placed on the stones where you are supposed to put the mask. The three of them took, but the boat wouldn't. When I did it under a different name and the chamber appeared, I knew immediately where to put the stuff. I am now in World 4 and having a grand time. Thank you again, so much.

I like this game! My only problem is I can't figure out how to get past the secret room in level 9. I fit all the pieces in place, and these 4 symbols keep flashing. I tried clicking on them to no avail! Help please! It's driving me crazy! Thanks!

Help!! Could someone help me with the staff items in the compartment room. I am at a total loss. I can't figure out where three of the items go. I placed one but it was just dumb luck. The items that I have left is the staff with crystal head, a staff with missing head and a crystal head piece. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am stuck in Saws. I have placed the key, the statute moved to the right. I placed the arrow and the bow in the arms of the large statue to the right. Now i have a flashlight and cannot do anything. Worse, I left the game and now am on the outside of the room (where the repieced phar is supposed to go). What do I do now, I have already tried starting again, but the same happens when I reach this level. Should I try an "easy" game to get unstuck?? Thank you.
Posted by: Kitty at March 17, 2008 10:18 PM
Kitty,
You should try starting again under a different name and change to the easy mode. Somebody else did that and it worked for them. Also try not to exit out of the game until you've completed a world.

I am having the same problem as Lisa in the compartment room. I can't place the staffs. I can see where they need to go, but when I pick them up to place them, they go right back to the tray. I deleted my name and restarted thinking it was a glitch. I got to this point again and am having the same problem. I looked at the journal and it says something about a shield to straighten that which we can't touch, but I also can't get the shield to do anything!
Posted by: Susan at March 18, 2008 08:47 PM
Susan,
Try placing your cursor directly on the hole in the ground and see if that works. I know other people had the same problem placing the staff.
When you restarted the game it probaly would have been best to start under a whole new name, add a name, not delete the old one.
Hope you get through it.

Tip for Secret Room-Last Level
When the symbols light up on the wall that you must then repeat in the correct sequence, I have come up with the following to make remembering the sequence:
First I number the spots were the symbols flash on the wall;
1 ( picture) 2
of
3 ( ankh ) 4
When the symbols start flashing I write down the number where it flashed then repeat that sequence. It worked for me, hope it works for you.

When I finish the Sphinx scene neither the map nor the book are active and I cannot get out of that screen to carry on playing the game. I have uninstalled and re-installed the game loads and had to start over time and time again, with no luck. please help!!!

The staffs, crystal head and mirror/shield do not have to be put in place in any order. The game will not let you put them in the wrong place. You can place the mirror first or the staffs first. As long as you place all four pieces the puzzle will be solved. 1. Mirror/shield, 2. staff with crystal head, 3. staff, 4. crystal head

This is perhaps why your game will not progress after the Sphinx level. This game has a series of worlds. In each world there are four rooms where you collect an object and put it in its place either in that room or another room. When that is finished a fifth room is available. In this room you collect the objects that will be used in the puzzle task in the next room and you collect the pieces of the gold pharaoh’s mask. When this is finished a sixth room is available. You must use the gold pharaoh’s mask to enter this room. Then you use the objects from room five and complete the puzzle or task. When you have done this the screen announces, Brilliant, and takes you back to the book to continue the story. When you are in room six, the one you entered with the gold mask, if you exit that room by going to the menu and exiting the game, the game will not progress forward. You have to go to the main menu and create a new player. You might as well delete the original player because they will not ever progress. Even if you uninstall and reinstall the game, if you have not deleted the original player who was stuck, the game will remember that player and it will not progress. So just create a new player and start over and don’t exit any room that you have entered with the gold mask until the game takes you out of that room. I think the designers of this game should fix this problem. If this does not work you should contact customer service where you purchased the game.

Evelyn,
I am so glad my comments helped. This is a fun game but it does have that one glitch in the room that you enter with the gold mask. I hope you make it to the end with no other problems and have lots of fun!!

Finally found walkthrough for this game. Thank you. My question is: Is anyone having the same problems that I am with one or more chambers "freezing" up? When this happens I have to quit the game and go back in. This usually means I have two of the objects to place for the locks. The game continues then. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have all the coins or found all 10 objects. I purchased this game from Big Fish since they were the only ones that had it. Thanks

Barb, I got my game from Big Fish in the first week of March. I had problems with it so I uninstalled it and downloaded it a second time from Big Fish. It worked better the second time. I didn't have the same problem as you are having but maybe downloading it again will work for you.

Do you know where I can get a patch for this game also do you know of any games like it Thanks
Posted by: Nancy at May 4, 2008 09:24 PM
Nancy, What do you mean by a patch? This game is mostly find the differences and some adventure. The game that I have found that is most similar to the find the differences is Cate West The Vanishing Files. It is hidden object and find the differences. Escape the Museum is a good hidden object and adventure game. MCF Madame Fate is an excellent hidden object and puzzle game. Azada is an excellent puzzle game.

A patch usually means a "fix" for a game.
Some developers will update a game that's had problems with a patch. They do this so they can resolve any bugs in the game. As far as I know they haven't released one for this game as of yet.

Finished the game, and had many of the problems others did. Ended up never finishing a room unless I had place a piece from another room.

I have uninstalled the game a few times and reinstalled it. Starting with Level 2 I always have to redo the first room before I can go to the other rooms to find the objects needed to finish the room or dig. I don't know what the prolem is and neither does Big Fish. I just traded it for another game I was trying out. Rally disappointing since I really like the game.

Barb, In Level 1 the objects you need to finish a room are in that room. In the first room in Level 2 the game give you this message “Not all items are used in their original rooms. Use the map to go to a new room and try the item there.” So starting in level 2, you find the 10 differences and collect one item in your inventory for each of the 4 rooms. Then you go back to each room and put one item in the correct room. You do this by clicking on the map so you can get back and forth between the rooms. When you put the correct item in each room and when it is finished the screen will say Brilliant and you can’t go back into that room. When you have done all 4 rooms they the other 2 rooms open for the puzzle solving portion of the game.

I received the CD for the game today. I uninstalled the game and used the CD. So far the game is going as it should. I tried the first room of Level 2 and was able to use map to go to second room. Hope it continues to go as should. Thanks.
