Little Things Forever Preview

For fans of Hidden Object games (and let’s be honest, there are a lot of us here on Gamezebo!), KlickTock’s 2010 App Store-featured hit Little Things was something special. A game that scratched many of the same hunt-and-find itches as the darker, moodier titles with which the genre is packed, while focusing instead on vibrant, iconic items packed densely inside larger canvases. The I Spy novel for the digital generation. iSpy.

Little Things Forever

For fans of Hidden Object games (and let’s be honest, there are a lot of us here on Gamezebo!), KlickTock’s 2010 App Store-featured hit Little Things was something special. A game that scratched many of the same hunt-and-find itches as the darker, moodier titles with which the genre is packed, while focusing instead on vibrant, iconic items packed densely inside larger canvases. The I Spy novel for the digital generation. iSpy.

So whether you’re a die hard fan, a Little Things convert, or simply someone longing for the nostalgia of a hidden object experience that’s a little more playful, I come bearing gifts. Foremost among them? The news that KlickTock’s aptly named sequel, Little Things Forever, will be hitting iDevice shelves as soon as the end of May. Oh, and since I’m feeling extra nice, I guess I’ll share some exclusive details and screenshots too.

Little Things Forever

Far from just a catchy moniker (though isn’t it!?), the addition of “Forever” to the title signals how far the series (and technology) has come in just a couple of years. Because while the game will launch with 10 large patchworks to hunt through, developer Matthew Hall has programmed himself the ability to “draw up a new patchwork and drop it painlessly into the game,” allowing for infinite expansion (so get your requests ready now!).

Beyond that, things are sticking pretty closely to the formula struck with game number one, but trust me when I say that doesn’t look like a bad thing at all. Quite the opposite, Hall has spent time honing his skills and adding a level of polish to the experience that he “wasn’t able to… originally.” Namely, Little Things Forever has been built on powerful mobile engine Unity, resulting in a world teeming with more vibrancy, movement, and “whizzing around” as Hall puts it.

Moreover, all the game’s endearing little things have been dotingly scrubbed to shine, whether on the new iPad’s retina screen, your Mac or PC, or your 3rd Generation iPod Touch. Talk about backwards compatibility! And while it’s not a sure bet, Hall has said he’s begun conceptualizing a multiplayer mode that – in a perfect world – might make it into the game in a future update, along with a larger (paid) expansion pack a la Where’s My Water?

For now, though, there’s plenty to look forward to in the initial release, which Hall hopes to have you hunting and finding in the App Store by the end of this month. iOS owners will be able to snag the game for $2.99, and it will retail for two dollars more on Mac and PC.

Eli has loved mobile games since his dad showed him the magic of Game & Watch. He can't quite remember when he started loving puns.
