Bashing Fitness Dash (double standard)

After reading reviews by several gamezebo members and the gamezebo review as well, I noticed that people seem to be bashing this game because it is not innovative and it is similar to other dash games. I think it is a ridiculous double standard. New hidden object games are coming out in record numbers and there are a couple of them with new twists, but for the most part, one is just like the other..Yet I don't see reviewers here bashing HOGs because they are not innovative. If a game is fun to play, then it is fun to play, regardless of genre! So please, stop simply bashing time management games because some of them are not innovative. We can say the same thing about tons of the new hidden object games, but nobody seems to be complaining. Double standard? Yes.

Don. I respect your comments (and your right to them). Here's another take from a dedicated  HOGer.

The HO developers seem to have fallen into two types lately (IMHO). The out-of-proportion object (too big/small), and repetitive cluttered scenes variety whose objects are either too easy or too hard to find. I refer to these as 1st generation HOGs as these were what we first saw a lot of.  At the time, they were a new type game and the law of demand and supply kicked in. And the Clone Wars began.

I think we are now in the 2nd generation of  HOGs. These games make you use some of the objects you find in entertaining and often frustrating ways. They seldom tell you what to do with the items, it's up to you to figure it out. Sort of a game within a game. I concede some of them do still rely on finding disproportional and unlikely objects, but the developers are handling it better (The Clumseys, Mushroom Age, Alabama Smith, etc. are using time travel as a way to explain the objects.)

As gamers, we HOG devotees fall into two camps depending on which type of HOG we enjoy.  When a new HOG comes out, I cruise around the forums here and check out who likes the game in the comment section and who doesn't. That tells me a lot as to weather I'll like the game. I will usually try the 60-minute demo anyway just to reaffirm my suspicions (and I have been wrong at times, i.e.: I just bought Steve the Sheriff and I was sure I wouldn't). I think people who really like a game try to get the word out by posting good reviews. Those of us who didn't like it leave our  tracks in comment threads and usually don't post as it isn't their preferred type of HOG...but, of course, there are exceptions.

In conclusion. There is a large audience for both types of HOGs and the developers are still responding, TG. If you're still humoring me ;-), gnashif posted a wonderful explanation of HOG players on this forum   Thanks for your comments; they got the cobwebs out of my brain way too early today. I think I'll head over and see what's for breakfast Tongue out  Happy Gaming.  Laurie (aka: Moe)

Hi!

I'm not crazy about Fitness Dash, but not because it isn't innovative. I don't like the graphics. Some are OK. But the gyms just aren't that great looking and either is the drawing of the people. And I really wish they would keep the people looking consistant from Dash game to Dash game. Because in some of those games the graphics are good. If you aren't going to get innovative, then spend time (and money, no doubt) on the graphics.

Also, these later TM games are getting harder and more frustrating. It's kind of getting not fun for me. I suppose, I must not have the greatest skills...but I know I'm not terrible. Anyway, just my opinion.
