After a vague teaser trailer was released on the developer’s blog earlier this week, it became pretty clear that Fruit Ninja developer Halfbrick was up to something. Well we can now tell you that the mysterious new game has been officially unveiled by Halfbrick at PAX Australia, and it carries the quite intimidating name of Colossatron: Massive World Threat.

In the game, players are tasked with managing a giant robot snake monster thing named Colossatron, which is comprised of numerous colorful body segments, and who is pretty hell-bent on destroying the world. Oh, and did I mention that most of these body segments come equipped with devastating weaponry?

From what we’ve seen of the game so far, it looks like players won’t actually be able to control Colossatron directly: rather, the challenge comes in matching up the different-colored body segments in strategic manners to boost up their various attack powers. But don’t think that just because you have a colossal robot snake on your side that Colossatron is going to be a walk in the park! You’ll still have to deal with all of the world’s powerful military forces who are trying to stop you.

The game already looks to be the most story-driven of any of Halfbrick’s past releases, with the debut trailer heavily featuring cartoon cutscenes of panicked newsrooms and disgruntled army generals trying to stop the path of destruction that Colossatron is laying in its wake.

We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear any further updates about Halfbrick’s new beast, including the price and release date of Colossatron: Massive World Threat. In the meantime, be sure to let us know what you think of this action-packed departure from the same developer who made us see the fun in things like fish and fruit!
