BeaverTap Games unveil Mikey Hooks, the sequel to Mikey Shorts

BeaverTap Games have announced Mikey Hooks, an upcoming sequel to the beloved Mikey Shorts. Much like its predecessor, it will be a 2D platformer with retro sensibilities (which is a fancy way of saying it will be pixelated). Furthermore, despite the name change, Mikey will still continue to wear shorts. We know how important that is to you guys.

But shorts or not, don’t expect the game to be an uninspired carbon copy of the first game. BeaverTap are changing things up with a few new additions, including the sure-to-be-handy hookshot. You can get a glimpse of that in action in the trailer below, along with a nice little snippet of some upbeat chiptune music. If it doesn’t make you dance, I fear for your soul.

Touch Arcade is also reporting that the sequel will see an increase in bad guys and obstacles for Mikey to avoid. But it’s not all bad news for the little guy, as there will also be a whole new set of dress-up items for him to wear. So while he may die a whole lot more in Mikey Hooks, he’ll at least look good while doing it.

A release date hasn’t been announced yet, but Beavertap are hoping to get it on the App Store sometime this spring. If you want to be alerted when it releases, be sure to click the “Follow” button atop this page!
