There has been a growing trend in the industry lately of core game developers bringing their AAA titles to the mobile screen. Next in line is 5th Planet Games, who are getting ready to launch a mobile version of their popular Dawn of the DragonsMMORPG on iOS devices next month. This will be 5th Planet Games’ first foray into the mobile scene, but with an already well-established following on Facebook, Kongregate, and Armor Games, there’s no doubt that Dawn of the Dragons will also find a home with dragon slayers on the go!
5th Planet Games, developer of casual MMOs, RPGs, and CCGs (it’s amazing how much time acronyms can save) has announced plans to release games on mobile. This includes previous titles – such as Dawn of the Dragons, Clash of the Dragons, and Legacy of a Thousand Suns – as well as new, unannounced ones. Rob Carroll, formerly of Tapjoy and Zynga, will be serving as Chief Mobile Officer for the studio.
5th Planet Games create collectible card games full of high-fantasy, super powers, and deep narratives. Illustrated by famous comic book artists, packed with tons of story, and meant for players of classics. The only catch? For many of them, you’ll never be able to touch the cards. They craft digital “CCGRPGs:” games that are looking to recapture the magic of things like, well, Magic, while adding flourishes for the modern era.
If you’re a collectible card game fan like me, you know how exciting it is when a new expansion comes out. New mechanics are added, epic characters are introduced, the mythos of the game is deepened... and you have a ton of new cards to play with. Luckily for all you Legacy of Heroes fans, all of that is happening very soon.
I am a man of many tastes, but I have a few choice passions of mine that take a considerable amount of time out of my life. Among this exclusive list are card games and comic books. Anything that has ever combined the two (most notably Vs. System – curse you Upper Deck for running it into the ground!) has been a friend of mine, and Legacy of Heroes, aside from one weakness, is no exception.
Legacy of Heroes is a card-battle game created by 5th Planet Games]. You will fight AI and live human opponents in a battle of card wits, and anyone familiar with Magic: The Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh! willfind themselves in very familiar territory. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.
5th Planet Games, a company that developers collectable cards, recently acquired To Be Continued, a game design consulting company in New York. This means that 5th Planet now owns To Be Continued's current and future projects, including collectable card games (CCGs) based on "The Walking Dead," and (gulp) "Twilight." Two unnamed Hollywood properties were netted in the deal, too.
I fancy myself a serious “casual” player of collectible card games (CCGs). I’m quite fond of Magic: The Gathering and went all gaga when Shadow Era came to my PC, iPod, and iPad. But until now I’ve never played a CCG on Facebook, so I really didn’t know what to expect out of Clash of the Dragons. But a unique damage system hooked me in pretty quickly.
Legacy of a Thousands Suns has a name that makes it sound like it numbers among the lesser-known works of Ursula K. Le Guin or Gene Wolfe, and to be sure, its story-based text likely outnumbers several of their better works. Beginning with its lavishly detailed starting screen to its awe-inspiring graphics for boss fights, 5 Planet Games never lets us forget that this is a Facebook RPG with ambition, and it marks a significant improvement over their well-received predecessor, Dawn of the Dragons.
