I live in Nashville Tennessee. I was born here and the only other place I have lived is in the Appalachian Mountains in Asheville North Carolina. I was there for four years but returned to Nashville when my husband died. I love the mountains and I hope to retire and move to Asheville in a few years. My grown son (he turned 40 this year) lives there so I am looking forward to living closer to him again.

    Hey V-ger,

what a coincidence that I looked once again in this thread. I was sure you would not notice my message anymore :) But you are right - I am trying to stay up-to-date concerning American politics. I guess that is pretty important to understand what is going on in the world, so I'm really excited about the upcoming election between Obama (I assume) and McCain...here in Germany the situation is calm at the moment - the next election is far away and there is just a little tension between the parties of the grand coalition - I guess in one year the political climate will become heavier ;) As usual.

Hi V-ger. We have been here for about 9 yrs. Don't LOVE the place, but this is where the job brought us. It is a nice and friendly place, but probably won't retire here. Flint can't be that far away, but then my geography isn't the best. Don't get into the States much. More shopping on our side of the border and not much into Casinos. Prefer my gaming to be on the comp. Glad you had a good time here, despite the cold.

Hi Ya'll, I'm currently from South Carolina, but have travelled and lived in alot of places in the USA. I was born in Connecticut, lived there for 24 years, went to college in Indiana and Virginia, then spent time in Florida and Colorado, finally left there and moved to North Carolina, then for the last 15 years I settled in SC and here I will stay until you know! The best time I ever had was when I was 50, my mom wanted to make one last trip to Ireland, so she took me along. I had a blast and I wish I could have moved there permanently! But alas, I am fated to stay in the States.

    Hi Orangeknickers,

We have family in County Kerry, the town or village if you will, is Kells Bay, also in Kenmare. If you have a chance to go down from Dublin, you should take a driving trip (not by bus!) around the Ring of Kerry, I got a chance to do that with family and it was so much more enjoyable than going on a regimented Bus Tour! Also in the month of August there is a Fair in the town of Kilorgen (I hope that's spelled correctly :))called Puck's Fair, it goes on for three days and we had a blast! I hope you enjoy your time in Ireland, I know that I did!

    Hey Suzy,

five years ago I was in Ireland for the first time with my school class and during that journey we also visited the Ring of Kerry - a beautiful experience (besides Killarney, Rosslare, etc). This summer will be my second time in Ireland, only four days, and me and my friends will concentrate on Dublin, because we absolutely fell in love with this city. But I'm planning to stay in Ireland for a longer period after my studies, perhaps workong there for six months or so and then I definitely will visit all parts of the country again.

    Report as Inappropriate

Hi Orangeknickers, One of the reasons my mom wanted to go back was to visit the place where her father was born and raised. He was a Lovett and was born in a farmhouse in the mountains outside of Kenmare. One of the Dublin cousins took us up there and believe it or not the original house is still standing and remains in the family today. Being up in the mountains, the view was incredible. The closest neighbor was kilometres away. I could have stayed and enjoyed the peace and quiet. I would love to go back to see Dublin, have plenty of relatives there, one is involved with getting a number of countries to accept the Euro as their means of currency, I believe that there were 15 countries that were considering it when I spoke to him last. One thing that I noticed is that kids in Ireland seem to be well travelled. I have cousins from Ireland living in NYC, USA and some from Dublin living in England and Austrailia. I wish I could travel like that. I hope you enjoy your trip, I wish I could go too! SuzyQ

    Report as Inappropriate

I'm on the beautiful central coast of California, Monterey Bay, ocean sanctuary, cradled in the green rolling hills surrounding the small town. I see the ocean between the pines from my balcony a block away and hear the seals bark at night. Don't know how/why I was so blessed by fate to end up in retirement here - pure happenstance. Lived all over, born in WI, on to IL, MO and grew up in Dallas, in my 20's WashDC, Paris France, but last 40 years in California, Los Angeles toooo long then to rural CA then to here. It's a quiet friendly family town, little to no crime, most courteous drivers in the world, paid $4.40 gal for diesel 3 weeks ago so not much traffic on the streets. By surveys it's the safest town to walk in in CA. Were it not for senior housing I could never afford to live here, so a dream come true. I ain't never leaving home (here) again Auntie Em.

Wonderful to see so many states and countries represented in one place and sharing stories.
