Hi KCKfor fun!
Have you tried The Virtual Villagers game? Virtual Villagers 3 just came out. If you like those types of games you may like those as well!

Hi Kayleigh! Thank you! My granddaughter's name is Kaylee. :) Margie...I HATE VV. There's just something wrong with it...I can't put my finger on it...but it's not my cup of tea. Sigh. I love BAL TOYT...but have played it through a couple of times and am now bored silly with it.

Hey KCK - it is the same with me - I totally love the Build-a-lot-series and westward I & II, but couldn't get in touch with Virtual Villagers, though I have to admit that I anxiously awaited the third part, because the concept of this game is really great - the first two parts just were so...slow-paced ;)

I have the same issue with VV and any of the sim games where the characters keep going even after you sign off. That's just not a "game" for me.

Gamezebo is my favourite game review site. The walkthroughs and tips are very helpful ("Marvelous MargieB" is really amazing in that regard).
.
Let's see, other good games like Build-A-Lot...Here are a couple of off the wall suggestions, but they have a similar pacing although the gameplay may differ. They might be worth trying, especially if you like games that last awhile.
.
1. Plantasia. This is a time management game where you plant flowers and fight off bugs, but it has the same kind of choice structure as Build A Lot. It's one of the few time management games where you may do one thing early in the round to gain an advantage, then raze it to the ground and start over with more expensive items. So that's very like the strategy in build-a-lot. You're also working with a fixed geography rather than customers coming in and out. It's quite a challenging game, but there are many different strategies that work. The storyline is pretty light, but each round is very satisfying.
.
2. Caribbean Hideaway. Although the gameplay is a bit like match 3, it plays very differently. And there's an island where you get to decide which buildings to build in order to get a choice of power-ups, which is a bit like the Recycle Center and Workshop in Build-a-Lot. It has 100 levels, so it lasts a long time. It's worth trying. And time is a huge factor in each round.3. Burger Shop. This is a time management game, but the character differentiation is very strong and it's a different kind of challenge than some of the typical Diner Dash type games. You don't have to worry about where people are seated, but you have a lot of choice about what to do next. I really like this. However, it is based on the idea of customers who come in and out, so that may not fit your style.

4. Chocolatier (the first, not the second). This game has a long quest, and lots of strategy. However, it doesn't have the same time management aspect as Build-A-Lot. But if you like to have multiple goals and a game where you can really see your progress as you go along, this is very high quality.
.
5. Tradewinds Legends. This is a game you can play for days. It's not as fast-paced as Build-a-lot, though, so it may not be what you're looking for. Bsaically you're a trader in the time of the Arabian Nights. You have to buy ships, buy and sell goods, and also fulfill individual quests. Lots of humour. Very involving, many different successful strategies, excellent detail. However, although it's one of my favourite games, you're not going to get the adrenaline rush you do from the games that have a clock ticking down each round, so it may not fit what you're looking for.
.
Well, those are a few you can try. In terms of visual layout, Plantasia is going to be the most similar, but the resource management is quite different. But all 5 of these games have complex goals, multiple levels, and excellent production values. You should be able to tell during the first half hour or so if the game is one you'd like.
.
Have fun!

KCK,
I thought of one more game you might like. Have you tried Home Sweet Home? It's realistic rather than fantasy, so in that sense it's more like Build-a-Lot. The gameplay is different, but you do get multiple goals and it can be quite challenging.

You are an apprentice interior designer. You are going to work on 50 different homes (one per level). In each level you have to first come up with a design, which lets you place furniture around a room, and then actually "build" it. In the design phase, you have to figure out what the customer will like based on hints.
.Once you have it designed, you enter a timed phase where you control 3 workers with different skills. What makes it quite challenging is that the workers may need a break (or get a minor injury) during the build, so you have to continually reshuffle resources. This makes the gameplay feel a little like what happens when a house needs unexpected repairs during Build-a-lot.
.
Anyway, it's another one you might want to try. It looks like it's going to be a really simple game when you just read the description but, like Build-A-Lot, there's a lot more to the strategy once you get into it.
.Have fun!

Seems like a nice place here. I hope I can add to that! :)
So what other games are like the two above-mentioned? I love to play for hours and hours...and the harder, the better...except not so hard I can't figure it out. LOL
Thank you, happy gaming, and hope to see y'all around. :) Send a Kudo Post a reply Quote & Reply
