LizzieIn Windows, if you use Print Screen (sometimes abbreviated PRT SCRN on some keyboards), you will get only the current image that has "focus." If you hold down the ALT key and then hit the Print Screen key at the same time (like you were doing a Shift, but with the ALT key instead), then you will get everything you see on your monitor put together as one image. Sometimes this matters, sometimes it doesn't, but it's good to know.As you mention, once you have the image captured, you can then paste it into a paint program. Or if you have a photo editing program you should also be able to paste it into there. Just open your editing program, start a new blank image, and then use Paste. I mention that because often times you can get a higher quality image that way.If you have a choice, it is usually best to save the image in .jpg or .jpeg (same thing) format if you are going to upload it to Photobucket or another web-sharing site. You will get the best quality for the smallest file size. All of these instructions only work for Windows--I don't know how to do it on a Mac, but I know it's different.

Thanks Robin. I'm new at this so I really appreciated your tips. What photo editing program do you use?

A real handy tool, you just need to open and tell him to which folder you want to have it and when you then use the key(s) you choosed, the picture will go into this folder automatically. You can choose if you want to have it with or without cursor, in which quality and between .jpg, .bmp, .tif or .png, and which key you want to press to make the picturesYou dont have to go to a painting program between, you can do as much pictures as you want, you will all find them back in the folder afterI find that very handy, but I dont know, if there is something equal for IEGreetings, Kayleigh -
Oh, and when you like playing around with pictures and screenshots, google for freeware (photoshop freeware for example). There are a lot of very good programms as freeware f.e. PhotoPlus 6.0 or Photobie 4.4 (this are just two I know, Im sure, there are others and maybe even better than this).Greetings, Kayleigh

Lizzie,I use Adobe Photoshop Elements--that's their less expensive product, designed for photo editing. But as Kayleigh says, there are many photo editing programs available, some of them freeware. Often if you buy a camera or a computer it will come with one. The point is just to know that in most photo editing programs, you can "open a new file" and then paste your screen grab there. EIEIO,I'm glad the information helped!

I have several photo editing programs on my computer. I purchased Adobe Photo Deluxe several years ago. I also have the one that came with my Canon digital camera, one that came with my HP printer, one that is Windows or MS that came with the computer. And I think some more pop up when I plug in my camera. So many that it is sort of confusing. I usually just pick a simple one and play with it just enough to get by.

Taking a screen shot

Taking a screen shot:
When you are looking at the screen you want to capture, hit the PrtScrn button on your keyboard. Then you would exit the game or minimize it, depending on whether you are playing in full screen. Then you would Paste what you have just captured into a program. The program you Paste into would depend on what you want to do with the screen shot.
If you want to save it as a photo so you can upload it to the internet into a site like Photobucket, you would Paste the image you captured into Paint. Most computers have MicroSoft Paint in their programs. Go to Programs, Accessories, Paint. You would open Paint and a blank white screen will come up and then choose Edit, Paste and your image will show up. You can then save it as a JPG or GIF file or any other file type available in Paint. When I do that they automatically save into My Pictures on my computer.
If you just want to look at it, you can Paste it into Word or any word processing program and save it as a document. You would open a blank document in Word and choose Edit, Paste and the image will be in the document and you can save it. From Word you can print it or email it as a document attachment or paste the image it into an email.
There are also things that you can do to edit the image in Paint or Word or your photo editing program. I just started taking screen shots last week so I am just learning. I’m sure there are many people on this site that know much more about it than I do. So if you have any more complicated questions perhaps others will add more comments.
